Went to the dentist today and Mary the tooth babe said everything was looking good. She sure was...oh,my train of thought derailed for a moment there...uh...oh,got the parts for the tiller and got it going. Planted 8 cabbage plants and a row of onions.None of it's ready to pick yet. That's probably all i'll plant for a while-saw people buying tomato plants today, but they'll probably have to cover them a few nights yet.I'll just wait a while for the tomatoes and squash, let the ground warm up some.
I made it to Donora all right with that half a load of kyanite.Made up for the light load with the return load though-brought 5 coils back to Lynchburg that weighed 49,980. All 5 of them that is,not each. That's good, they pay by the weight and the load I took to Donora pays the same as a full load. Then I went to Orchard Park with kyanite, but I didn't have time to go to Fishers and do a surprise building inspection because I had to go to Brookfield,Oh. and load some coils for Metalsa in Roanoke.
Well I guess eveyone knows I finally found a job which is pretty easy except for standing on your feet for 12 hours solid. Other than that the job is actually great, people are nice and ready to help at any time needed. Amber's brother work's the same shift so if we work together we cut up alot. You can listen to your own music eat anytime, and it's fast paced work at times. I've never liked a factory job except for this one. The only reason i'm still up is I have nowhere to sleep in the bed Amb
Another week gone by too fast. Seems to be a pattern.
Anyway, we are reviewing all of our building options, including taking a long term lease on the
new space available to us where we are currently located. There are some real advantages there - we get
free use of the huge paint bay, the sand blast facility and whatever help we might need for
assistance and specialized shop equipment. The complex is basically the home of Pooler Enterprises,
which is a huge excavating and site development
Went to Petersburg and picked up a load of beams Monday after I unloaded in Vinton,Va. Delivered them in Bethlehem,Pa. Tuesday morning and then went to Sparrows Point,Md. and loaded one single coil for Salem,Va. that weighed about 47,000 lbs. Then I loaded kyanite for Avon,Oh. and went from Avon to Pittsburgh and loaded 2 coils at Galv-Tech going to Lynchburg.Unloaded there Friday morning and went to Dillwyn and loaded kyanite for Donora,Pa. to deliver Monday morning-only 6 pallets, about 22,000 l
Interesting week.
Weather is getting steadily better. Snow's almost gone.
I like these days - you can really feel the change coming, even though it's still only
15 or 20 degrees at night. It gets to 40 or so during the day. And when the
sun shines, it really seems to shine bright.
Not much Mack truck news this week. But we did get paid for the 2000 379 Peterbilt,
and got a pleasant surprise when a fellow from Indianopolis showed up, like he said he would,
and paid for, and took, a road w
went to Avon...then to Sharon,Pa. Brought 2 coils back to Lynchburg. Talked to Frankie at Handy-he got out of a Western Star with a 550 cat into one of the new 386 Petes they just got,and he was not impressed. He didn't like the slower speed, lower h.p.(485 cummins isx),and mainly the way it rides. They look good though! He said it bounced like a cabover with the set-back front axle. I'd just be whining and crying about the lower horsepower if it was me,and Jeff already has one ordered. It's supp
It's about time to leave for Avon,Ohio. Could've left yesterday, but I got up at 4am to go to Chesapeake to unload, went by Kyanite Mining on the way back to load, and got back to the shop to get fuel at 4:45. I'd already ran about 450 miles or so and put in a pretty long day,so I just parked at the truckstop and came home since I only had a couple more hours available to work. I don't usually do that, but I was tired all day yesterday for some reason, probably because I went to bed about 8 o'clock S
It is starting to look a little like spring around here, peach trees and pear trees are in full bloom. I don't know if I really qualify for spring fever, or if I have just got a case of the mullygrubs. It just seems that when I have time to do something, it is raining, snowing, too muddy, or it's below freezing and the wind is blowing 50 mph. I did manage to get out with some friends a week ago, and get up to Marble NC, to pick up the dump body. I had bought the thing 6 months ago, but ther
Good News -
Picked up my rebuilt rear axle yesterday and brought it in the shop.
Then I organized all of the big pieces so I can begin reassembling the frame and suspension,
and get this whole unit back on wheels.
The snow's melting and it's warming up, which means that time's running out.
Gotta get moving!
Thought I was going to buy a new set of 12.00 x 22.5 drive tires - but now with all brand new stock
length wheel studs, I'm not so sure. The additional height of the 12.00 tires wou
Sorry otherdog not trying to be like you, but just posting a few of my pics. The boys went and had their easter pictures made yesterday. I told Amber that the real easter bunny is on tour with Snoop Dogg, unlike Santa Clause which is a Colombian drug lord.....anyway here are a few pctures I've been meaning to post. One of them is of the boys, the other ones are the kenworth t-600 my dad drove and the '84 GMC Brigadier my buddy has. The T-600 had a 425 manual pump caterpillar, 13 over trans., and
Florida pictures-here's that palm tree I promised, and from snowy Ohio to all the green trees and grass in Florida, one week later. Oh,and one bikini...on a billboard.
And a new straw hat-bought it on e-bay. And A train loaded down with containers full of American products in the heartland of America, just south of Norwalk,Ohio-oh...China?..never mind then.
Sometimes I have a tendency to post the same picture more than once-I should either write them down as I go,or quit drinking.Guess i'll s
...so,after I went to Cranberry,Pa. and back to Lynchburg I went to Fremont,Oh. Last time I was there was during the great blizzard, this time it was water everywhere, rain, rain, and more rain. Lot of the fields looked like small lakes.Too bad we couldn't get some of that rain around here,we need it.
Brought another load of steel from Pittsburgh to Lynchburg, and was hoping i'd be done for the week, but I had to go back to that jobsite in the mud by the river in Point Marion,Pa. I should have some
Got the pipe unloaded in Cranberry Township without too much problem. Biggest problem was that somewhere between Cranberry and Pittsburgh my trailer dump valve quit working. Pittsburgh is one of the least truck-friendly places I know of anyway and I ran over every curb in town...well,most of 'em it seemed like. That can be very hard on tires. I checked the fuses and the wires going to the dump valve where they have a tendency to break off and didn't find any obvious problem,so i'll have them che
Got to looking around on e-bay last night and saw a Mack bulldog belt buckle.I liked it,and the top bid was like $8.99 or something so I bid on it too. The top bid kept climbing and I kept bidding 'til I was up to $29.99 I think, then I went to bed.I was hoping I got outbid because that was more than I wanted to pay,but you know how easy it is to get carried away at an auction. Anyway I checked this morning and was glad to see that I had been outbid, but I was astonished to see that the winning bi
Cab surgery doing quite well.
Cut off the bottom 3" of the back panel that I am using and welded in new
metal. rather than try to make the hundred or so rivet holes from the original look good.
Pretty neat fix, if I do say so myself.
Got both of the knee action shock absorbers working nice today, so I can rehang the
front axle starting tomorrow. Then the radiator support frame, steering column and clutch linkage.
Soon I'll be blowing black smoke all over Tom's Peterbilt when I scream pas
Went to Best Buy yesterday and bought a camcorder-since I got a tax refund, I figured i'd try to do my part to help stimulate the economy. If everybody keeps hearing on the news how bad the economy is,after a while they believe it,and then it is. Anyway, the salesman recomended that I get an extended life battery for it because the battery that came with it was only good for about 45 minutes. So after I fully charged it this morning, just like the instructions said,I tried to put it in and it was
I made the trip to Florida and back, but i'd rather have gone to Romulous,Michigan or somewhere. It's too hot down there, and my AC wasn't working. I've always heard you should run the AC periodically in the winter, but I never did. Guess I should have,it worked fine when I turned it off last fall. It was a sweltering 80 degrees in Boca Raton Tuesday evening. Didn't get there 'til about 2 o'clock, because I didn't get away from Lynchburg until 3:00 Monday. I had 8 skids of sheets, 4 pallets of racks
I must be off-Jeff just called, and i'm still sitting at home drinking coffee. He said when I get around to going to Lynchburg to unload the load I dropped Friday night they're gonna reload me there for Boca Raton,Florida so i'd better get going. I'll try to take a picture of a palm tree, everybody's probably tired of snow pictures.
OK, here's some snow pictures to look at until I get the palm tree developed-
Well the snow finally melted today which was nice, we went to town to grocery store since it had warmed up a little. After we got back I went to clean up the garage, but that was short lived. My poor ol grinder had the big lick when I was using it to cut the top off of a 50 gallon drum I was going to use for trash collecting. After that incident I moved stuff around trying to make everything neater, but everything in front of me ended up piled up or stacked up behind me. After a couple of hours
Spent today cleaning and polishing the interior of the 379 Peterbilt.
Even though I think the truck is a little too gaudy for my tastes, if I was
going to spend any amount of time on the road in a truck - it would be a good way to go.
The big Ultracab bunk with the queen size fold down bed and the nice seating, refrigerator
and TV are sure a lot nicer than any truck I've ever driven. It's got closet space and plenty of
interior lights. I was pretty impressed.
Anyway, the prospective buyer
I found out my scanner was not compatible with windows vista, you could only get a driver for windows 98,nothing after that, and the primax website said they weren't gonna make any more drivers available for any later versions,so I figured I was just SOL. Since i'd been wanting a scanner because I take all of my road pictures with a 35mm,I bought a printer/scanner/copier at Wal-Mart today. Only thing is when I installed the program and gave it a try I lost all of my pictures that used to be in HP
