Here's a picture of the Mack frame rail trailer at Metalsa in Roanoke, where we deliver coils to regularly.I've been running the disc defragmenter ever since about 11 am,and I might try another longer video if it ever finishes. It might work, since it downloaded this picture twice...stupid computers
A little bit of video we shot coming back from the parade, headed west on rt.460 in Appomattox,Va. Don't know if this will work, never tried this before.
I saw the results from the Cumberland County Christmas Parade .Ma sent me a newspaper clipping and I managed to get another first in the 1951-1975 antique car or truck category. The decorations I put on it looked really bad. It ended up looking like a cement mixer with a bunch of stuff hanging off it,but it always seems to be a popular entry down there. I saw lots of people looking at it,pointing at it,and taking lots of pictures of it. At least nobody seemed to be laughing and pointing at the d
I started raking these knee deep leaves yesterday-perhaps I should have started sooner, like a month ago.Reminds me of West Virginia's snow removal policy. I was forced to stop when the torrential downpour started...when 12 or 13 drops of rain hit me I retreated back inside. So today I tried it again and broke the handle on the rake, but I repaired it with a plastic oar handle from an old inflatable raft I used to have and half a roll of electrical tape. Got them piled up anyway,in several differe
That's right I've been a dad for 3 weeks today and lovin every minute of it. Other than a few sleepless nights and belly aches everything has been going great. We was pretty sad for the first couple of days because we found out paxton's left hip did not set up the right way. They told us if it didn't get better they would have to dislocate it then reset it. Man you talk about upset the only thing I could do was worry and cry. Good news though it won't have to be done, they had a follow up appoin
Just got home about 7:30 this morning.Could've been in about midnight, but I ran out of power and had to take a nap. The power plant load kinda sucked-it's near Fremont, where I deliver Kyanite regularly, and it paid about $100 more dollars than a Fremont, but when you consider that I had to go to Richmond to load, then go through two separate security checks when I got there-they looked under the hood,in the sideboxes, all the tool boxes on the truck and trailer,in the cab,in the sleeper, then after
Well, I feel old this week.
I fell down on the ice two weeks ago - a real classic, total surprise, feet straight in front of me, airborne crash.
For a couple of days, I felt fine. Then all of a sudden, I became a cripple for about a week. Had to cancel my
trip to Lake Placid this week (work) because a six hour car ride was definitely out of the question.
It's getting better - but real slowly it seems.
Anyway - because of the new found time in my schedule, I went searching for all of the se
I went to the DMV office in Altavista this morning before I went to work to get the title for the mixer changed. It kind 've started out like a typical Monday morning. I had to find a notary public first,to get my official DMV antique license application form notarized. I stopped at the first bank I saw,but they wouldn't do it because I didn't have an account there. So I went down to the Altavista town offices, got it notarized, then went to the DMV office. I had to get it changed because my wife's
Once again i've made the trip to Cumberland and back. Got a picture before the parade started ,( THE DECORATIONS LOOKED PRETTY SHABBY THIS YEAR! ) the Dabney brothers 9 second '66 Chevelle, some good friends of mine for years, and one of the bulldog headed into the sunset-going home!
Had a long week this week, driving in snow for most of it. I left last Sunday for Orville,Ohio and when I unloaded Monday morning it was snowing and the radio said the wind was gusting to 50 mph. When I took the straps off of one side of the tarp it blew off and over the trailer and was flapping like a flag, still holding on by the straps on the other side.I finally got it detatched and it blew up under a trailer parked beside me.I struggled with it for a while and decided I was never going to get
My old R Mack is covered with snow and ice. Probably won't go for another ride until spring.
It's the only one thaty had to stay outside this winter, and I feel bad about it.
I'll pull the batteries out of her this week for charging and store them in the shop. so they don't freeze.
Just another case of the PreChristmas Blahs.
On a Brighter Note:
We got the H-63 inside Dennis' heated barn, so it's good until spring. We did get all of the Mack Museum
info on the truck, along with a shop man
West bound I-20, pretty close to the center of nowhere. If you could say you were sitting on the edge of a truck seat, thats where I was. Cringing with every breath. A 100 miles from a wrecker big enough to handle a rig, and a transmission that sounded like a hog eating hickory nuts. I had just passed a road sign, Toyah 12 miles, and I knew I could at least find food and water and get out of the highway. The transmission was ruined, so I kept tickling the throttle, just enough fuel to keep it
Well, it is Dec. 5th and we got our first major snow of the year. Now I remember why I like summer! I just hope we get a white Christmas this year...it has been a while. 3 or 4 years ago was the last white Christmas. Oh well, I still have shopping to do. I'd buy everything online if I knew my wife wouldn't snoop! So I'll just go Christmas eve like everyone else! LOL Have a Merry Christmas in case I don't blog before then!
When I was coming from Macedonia Thursday night headed to Roanoke, running with " BB Brain",somebody started yelling on the radio when we were coming down Sandstone mountain on I-64,east of Beckley. Turns out it was a Swift driver, but it could have been any number of the company drivers you see nowadays. He said "get off your brakes, you're going to burn your brakes up,have to go in the runaway ramp, and never be able to get another job with another company".Then something like "get off your brakes
Cheswick,Pa.-that's where I went. I remember now, since I've already been there and back. I called Tina, one of our drivers who had been to this jobsite before, and after I talked to her I was beginning to regret taking this load instead of the pipe going to Anderson,S.C. She said it was very cramped, they sat all day waiting to get unloaded because they were pouring concrete, and concrete trucks were in and out all day until 5 o'clock that evening. She also said you had to go down a steep hill and
I got to rambling on one of the BMT forums tonite - and it occurred to me that forum probably was not the place to ramble.
I'm not a very active political rabble-rouser, but day by day I am becoming more concerned and more confused with where we are going as a country.
Every single person in this country has to be committed to some small change in thinking. It's not even very drastic.
Our total dependency on foreign oil, regardless of the price, is completely fixable. We have to reduce our oi
Made the Fremont turn, and brought coils back to Roanoke again to the frame rail plant. After I got unloaded I loaded some rails and took them to Rustburg,to the school bus place. Now I've got to go load some 51' beams in Petersburg at 10 am tomorrow going to...gee,I forgot. But it's in the Pittsburgh area,on rt.28 just north of the turnpike.Had some leftover turkey and sweet potato pie for supper, still delicious.Had turkey sandwiches for lunch this week that I took with me. Now i'm just waiting for
Took delivery today of the H-63.
Always nice to get a new toy!
The only damper on this whole deal was that the engine turned out to have a bad rod bearing, and a pretty blued rod end.
The transmission is questionable, but we are not too concerned. Kevin All (AllMacks) has been great to deal with, and he assures me that if the transmission is not good, he will exchange it for one of his other ones.
Not too bad for a truck that was purchased "as is, where is".
We do have a spare 673 in good r
We'll guys they are both here safe and sound. They was born sunday evening. One was 5 pounds 11 ounces, the other was 5 pounds 2 ounces. Both are eating like little pigs and doing great. I ws wondering can some one send me their e-mail address so I can mail you the pictures to be posted up. I'm slow at learning this stuff and this computer is too slow for me to wait. Thanks JOE
Well I just got off the phone with my wife and they are fixing to transport her by ambulance to the hospital to monitor her. She's at the small in town hospital, but they want her over at Fort Sanders Medical center where she see's the specialist. I'm patiently, but nervously waiting for another gaurd to get here to relieve me. If you guys don't hear anything for a day or 2 it's because we are over there and there's limited internet access. Just keeping everyone updated and will continue when I
Well I'm setting here patiently waiting for the phone call from my wife saying it's time we gotta go and man my heart beats fast everytime I think about that. As I mentioned to other dog she's having contractions they are slow, but picking up a little at a time. We are both so anxious we can't sleep at night, but I'm sure that will wear off soon enough. Me and the misses have already picked out all kinds of stuff from the mack shop catalog for the boys so they will be riding in style. Just want
Well the holiday is past us.
A little bit fatter, but I was able to take four days off. Nice.
I also got my wiring harness for the B-67 this week, too.
After all the discussion about just softening the spring stack up on the rear axle,
I have been convinced to revisit the air ride idea for the B-67.
I'm thinking of either building my own system, ala "Tom Gannaway", or buying an
A.C.E. Superide pre-made crossmember and bags. In any case, the intent is to
use the original rear end. Both of
Since I had pictures of the whole turkey smoking process,I might as well show how it ended-with all the meat that was left pulled from it,placed in a pot with potatoes, onions, celery seed, and some thickening (flour and water),little salt and pepper...it's what Mama used to call turkey hash, and it's better than the turkey was! There's one of them sweet potato pies there too.
