Saturday Again

Made the trip to Nazareth,Pa. I passed right by the Nazareth Speedway going in,never seen that before. I drove the truck to Rockingham,N.C. to races a couple of times, and stopped and looked at the race tracks in Daytona,Talledega, and Darlington, and have passed by Bristol,Dover,North Wilkesboro,Atlanta,Michigan, maybe a couple more. Used to go to Charlotte,Richmond, and Martinsville every year, but it just got so expensive, and the traffic got so bad,and the cops in N.C. got so hateful I quit going

More Jeff's Jokes

I was in the office Friday and a driver named Joe came in. He had a load going to Syracuse,N.Y. but he had no name for the customer and no delivery address on the bills. He said " how am I supposed to find this place in Syracuse,i've got no information". Jeff was sitting there and never hesitated a second and said " just pull up in Syracuse and blow the horn, somebody'll come get you-that's what I would do". I thought it was hilarious, but I don't think Joe got it. He just said "well Syracuse is a

Saturday

Well,I was gonna leave Sunday, but ended up leaving Saturday anyway. Afterwards I was glad I did of course-I drove to Maysville,Ky. Saturday and when I left there Sunday morning I still had 600 miles to go to Endeavor,Wisconsin. It was a good load, paid me $760. After I unloaded Monday I went to Chicago to reload for Baltimore. That paid almost $300,so I had a pretty good week in by the time I unloaded in Baltimore Wednesday morning. Then I went across the Key Bridge to Sparrows Point and loaded a

Truckin' Around...

Well it's been 9 days since the last cigarette...but who's counting,right?.. and that was an ultra light-only one all day, while I was fueling up before I left for Orchard Park. Went to Zelienople and Fremont this week, loaded back to Roanoke out of Macedonia both times. Yesterday I went down to Petersburg and loaded 60' piling going about 10 miles North of Portage, Wisconsin for Monday delivery. Already got a load back to Norfolk out of Crystal Lake,Il. We had about 18-20 loads going up there,

...good Question...

I found out quitting smoking is ridiculously easy-all you gotta do is not do it anymore! Now that I know that,i'm gonna run over to 699 Market and get me a pack...no,can't do it. I know from past experience, having quit several times before. And I don't mean quitting for 39 minutes,I mean quitting for years-then starting back. Once I was over at the hunting cabin, hadn't smoked for years,quit- A man named Dennis got the last cigarette out of the pack, crumpled it up,dropped it on the coffee table a

Happy New Year

I'm off until tomorrow,so today I had the traditional New Years meal of blackeyed peas and greens. They were mustard greens, but mustard, turnip, kale, they all taste about the same to me-I like'em all. Creeces are the best, but hard to come by. They say the greens are supposed to bring you money in the new year and the blackeyed peas bring you luck. You're supposed to have hog jowl too,but I skipped on that part. I don't know what the hog jowl is supposed to represent anyway, but money and good luck c

Sunny Florida...not!

I'm back. Left the day after Christmas and went to Orchard Park,N.Y. (Buffalo area) and then to Boardman,Oh. to pick up three magnets and dropped them at the shop this morning. They said Wednesday they had a load going to Boca Raton,Florida. Long ways, but Florida ain't bad this time of year. But-Neal called back about 2 minutes later and said the Orchard Park was there at the yard, loaded on a side kit trailer, and I could get it and go,so that's what I did. So much for Florida. That's OK,I'd jus

Youtube

Well,I posted my first youtube video. Not much to it really, and kind of shaky-you know how a cement mixer rides! This was taken after I left the stoplight at Concord,Va. headed west on rt. 460,and passing by Litchford's garage. I'm only about a mile from the shop here.

Pc Problems

Well,I was gonna try another video, but the PC is still defragmenting. I think something's wrong-it said it could take from a few minutes to a few hours, but it ran all yesterday afternoon and all night so it should be done by now! I might call old Bill back. I thought my Norton 360 did it automatically,it's set to,but Bill said Norton was nothing but trouble, and there are better free programs available when the Norton expires. It was preloaded on my computer when I bought it. My skype and eyeball

Here's a picture of the Mack frame rail trailer at Metalsa in Roanoke, where we deliver coils to regularly.I've been running the disc defragmenter ever since about 11 am,and I might try another longer video if it ever finishes. It might work, since it downloaded this picture twice...stupid computers

A little bit of video we shot coming back from the parade, headed west on rt.460 in Appomattox,Va. Don't know if this will work, never tried this before.

Nothin' In Particular

I saw the results from the Cumberland County Christmas Parade .Ma sent me a newspaper clipping and I managed to get another first in the 1951-1975 antique car or truck category. The decorations I put on it looked really bad. It ended up looking like a cement mixer with a bunch of stuff hanging off it,but it always seems to be a popular entry down there. I saw lots of people looking at it,pointing at it,and taking lots of pictures of it. At least nobody seemed to be laughing and pointing at the d

Goofing Off

I started raking these knee deep leaves yesterday-perhaps I should have started sooner, like a month ago.Reminds me of West Virginia's snow removal policy. I was forced to stop when the torrential downpour started...when 12 or 13 drops of rain hit me I retreated back inside. So today I tried it again and broke the handle on the rake, but I repaired it with a plastic oar handle from an old inflatable raft I used to have and half a roll of electrical tape. Got them piled up anyway,in several differe

Another Long Week

Just got home about 7:30 this morning.Could've been in about midnight, but I ran out of power and had to take a nap. The power plant load kinda sucked-it's near Fremont, where I deliver Kyanite regularly, and it paid about $100 more dollars than a Fremont, but when you consider that I had to go to Richmond to load, then go through two separate security checks when I got there-they looked under the hood,in the sideboxes, all the tool boxes on the truck and trailer,in the cab,in the sleeper, then after

Dmv Trip

I went to the DMV office in Altavista this morning before I went to work to get the title for the mixer changed. It kind 've started out like a typical Monday morning. I had to find a notary public first,to get my official DMV antique license application form notarized. I stopped at the first bank I saw,but they wouldn't do it because I didn't have an account there. So I went down to the Altavista town offices, got it notarized, then went to the DMV office. I had to get it changed because my wife's

Once again i've made the trip to Cumberland and back. Got a picture before the parade started ,( THE DECORATIONS LOOKED PRETTY SHABBY THIS YEAR! ) the Dabney brothers 9 second '66 Chevelle, some good friends of mine for years, and one of the bulldog headed into the sunset-going home!

I Love My Job

Had a long week this week, driving in snow for most of it. I left last Sunday for Orville,Ohio and when I unloaded Monday morning it was snowing and the radio said the wind was gusting to 50 mph. When I took the straps off of one side of the tarp it blew off and over the trailer and was flapping like a flag, still holding on by the straps on the other side.I finally got it detatched and it blew up under a trailer parked beside me.I struggled with it for a while and decided I was never going to get

3 Month Know-it-alls

When I was coming from Macedonia Thursday night headed to Roanoke, running with " BB Brain",somebody started yelling on the radio when we were coming down Sandstone mountain on I-64,east of Beckley. Turns out it was a Swift driver, but it could have been any number of the company drivers you see nowadays. He said "get off your brakes, you're going to burn your brakes up,have to go in the runaway ramp, and never be able to get another job with another company".Then something like "get off your brakes

Cheswick

Cheswick,Pa.-that's where I went. I remember now, since I've already been there and back. I called Tina, one of our drivers who had been to this jobsite before, and after I talked to her I was beginning to regret taking this load instead of the pipe going to Anderson,S.C. She said it was very cramped, they sat all day waiting to get unloaded because they were pouring concrete, and concrete trucks were in and out all day until 5 o'clock that evening. She also said you had to go down a steep hill and

I Would Say "odds & Ends",but It's Taken Already

Made the Fremont turn, and brought coils back to Roanoke again to the frame rail plant. After I got unloaded I loaded some rails and took them to Rustburg,to the school bus place. Now I've got to go load some 51' beams in Petersburg at 10 am tomorrow going to...gee,I forgot. But it's in the Pittsburgh area,on rt.28 just north of the turnpike.Had some leftover turkey and sweet potato pie for supper, still delicious.Had turkey sandwiches for lunch this week that I took with me. Now i'm just waiting for

Last Of The Turkey

Since I had pictures of the whole turkey smoking process,I might as well show how it ended-with all the meat that was left pulled from it,placed in a pot with potatoes, onions, celery seed, and some thickening (flour and water),little salt and pepper...it's what Mama used to call turkey hash, and it's better than the turkey was! There's one of them sweet potato pies there too.

Back To Work

Well it's almost time for the holiday to end and get back to the real world.Gotta leave for Fremont in the morning. I got a letter from DMV this week, and I've got to get the mixer retitled, and pay another $50.My wife's name was on the title as co-owner and since their records indicated that one of the owners was deceased,I have to get a new title and tags. I don't see what difference it makes, but it makes them 50 more dollars. Nobody would have ever caught it ,but a few months ago DMV sent a for

Smoked

Done smoked that turkey-kind of blackened, but delicious. Hated to break in a new oven on the Thanksgiving turkey, but I didn't have much choice. This gas oven has a single bottom, where my old electric unit had two bottom panels, with an empty space in between. These pictures show the finished product, plus some extra drum sticks, the fire box, oven smoking, and plattered turkey. The sweet potater pies were delicious too, some of the best i've ever tasted-wait,is this the food forum,or trucks ? Smokin'(a Turkey)

I hauled a load of pipeline pipe from Tightsqueeze to Anderson,S.C. Monday, and one Tuesday-3 pieces per load,it was 42" pipe 40' long. I was supposed to do it again today, but they didn't work in Anderson so I came in last night and loaded a load of kyanite going to Fremont,Oh. for Monday delivery.I was kind of glad because the traffic was as bad yesterday as I expected it to be today. There was a cop on every ramp and behind every bush in North Carolina too.I didn't get any Captain Morgan's so I
