New Job

Well I started a new job this week. After getting layed off at the plastics factory, I got called for an interview tuesday and started wednesday. It's for a lumber yard here in town, making deliveries and helping customers. Only bad part is I have to work till 6:00 in the evening, but it's a job that pays the bills. Mowed the grass today which was way overdue, and gonna try and get my old ford back to runnin' this week. I kinda feel like Johnny Cash, "I get it one piece at a time". We'll time to go grocery shopping. As Other Dog would say "I must be off".....

Glad to hear you found another job Joe,hope you like it and it works out well for you. Do you get to pack a piece?..anyway,I don't know this "other dog" but i've heard he was a fine fellow, and a good role model. You heard anything?

p.s.-as Paul Van Scott would say "yeah-way off". What kind of truck are you delivering in,if any? If they gave you a wheelbarrow i'd quit.

Yeah I really like the job. I was working on another security job, but I think I'll hold onto this one. Yeah that other dog fellow is a pretty cool cat. Me him and his uncle bernie used to hang out at the bars all the time back in the day. Racing cars and so on. We have a S/10 pickup, '95 f-150, '96 chevy 1-ton, '91 chevy 2-ton, '89 chevy box van, and a big tandem axle chevrolet, but you gotta have a class B cdl to run it. I've been refreshening myself on the forklift to. Good thing is lowe's is moving into town in a few months so maybe I can try to get on there, who knows. See ya buddy.....

Joe,

I wouldn't be so anxious to get into Lowes.

Lowes and Home Depot have a bad reputation for hiring

all the good local building people while the store gets up and running,

then just about when you are ready for a raise, they lay you off and put

some no brain kid in your place who will work for half the money.

If you are treated well at the local lumber yard and if you like it,

stay there and help the company do well. The effort will pay you back

sometime down the road.

To be honest that was my thought. I figured when everyone else goes to lowe's I can move up the line so to speak.

I agree with Paul-Lowes and Home Depot are the Schneider and J.B.Hunt of the building supply binness. I've never driven for a large national carrier, but done pretty well with a "small regional carrier", and I'm pretty sure they'd be easier to get along with...or not.
