Saturday Update

Wow,Bernie Mac passed away-he was 2 years younger than me! Don't get to watch much TV,but I saw the Bernie Mac show a few times, and it was great! He always thought the kids were trying to get over on him,and he'd outsmart 'em,and the kids always thought he was tryin' to get over on them...sad to hear anyway.

Took some pictures yesterday-I went down to the apple tree to pick some apples. They're not ripe yet,but Jo wanted to try cooking some.I managed to pick 4 or 5 before I had to run for my life-hornets everywhere! Eating all the apples! And this pear tree was loaded-it had so many pears on it they broke the top of the tree off, along with several limbs. Now you can hardly find a pear. But those hot peppers and tomatoes are doing well,eh? (that's Canadian)

I don't really mind getting older.

But I really don't like reading the notices more frequently all the time

of friends and acquaintances passing. Especially when I didn't

consider them old.

I guess it's a part of life although it is still sad.

We just can't slow down, or it could be us!

You never did say if you were going to Barry's show in September.

I'm gonna try,if I can get myself near the area and can find somewhere to park a Peterbilt, but I can't say for sure yet.

I'm sure Barry will let you park the truck on the grounds, if there is room.

They might have you throw a cover over it is all.

Keep me posted and we'll try to get together down there for dinner or something.

Maybe you could just change the hood ornament to a bulldog.

Who would know?

Then you could park right in the show, and we would look just

like we knew what we were doing!

Did you see we have a Jethro Tull fan with us as a new member?

(Locomotive Breath)

Gotta love us aging rockers.

yes,i'm sorta-kinda surprised anyone else even made the Jethro Tull connection!

Well, now I have a problem-I just got a flyer in the mail today from the annual Toga benefit. They alway had it in August before, but this year they decided to have it later so it would be cooler, even though it's not usually much cooler around here until about the middle of October. The date they picked was September 13th. I'd hate to miss the benefit, the second annual one was for my wife and another woman who also had cancer. My wife had no life insurance, and it was a tremendous help. I said I wouldn't miss one from then on,and I haven't. Of course that's the same day as the Watts Mack open house and truck show, and I'd hate to miss that too, especially the chance to actually meet one of the greatest living Americans,a.k.a. I've not listened to alot of Jethro Tull, but Zeppelin or any other guys like Neil Young I've listened to quite a bit. That is a hard decision to make buddy.

Tom,

I sure do understand the importance of a benefit.

Especially for a good cause.

You might tell them that the cool breezes don't necessarily

go well with the togas, if you know what I mean.

And, when all the whining fails - go to the Toga benefit.

We'll figure this out another time.

And Joe - you are far too young to understand the importance of

Jethro Tull, Cream, Pink Floyd, and the Airplane. And a lot of other great bands.

Too bad to, because you missed an entire generation of the best music ever put on paper.

I forgot a very important bit of information.

I cooked two really nice thick Sirloin steaks this weekend

for Kathy & I.

First I pan seared them for about five minutes per side,

with a little flour and salt on the outside, then took the cast

iron frying pan with the meat and put it directly in the oven

for maybe ten minutes at 500 degrees for a beautiful

rare steak you could cut with a fork.

It was a downpour outside, and grilling wasn't an option.

I read this someplace, and it really does work.

I always told my parents I would of preferred to be born in the 60's. Which my dad was born in '60 so he said he had some good times though.

It's worse than I thought -

You mean to say your father was born in 1960?

Tom & I will talk - But we may have to disown you completely.

Although that might not be very smart.

Having a youngster around to do errands is pretty handy.

I actually saw Pink Floyd before,in Raleigh,N.C. Did I mention that before? Oh,that many times huh? Roger Waters had left the band by then of course, but everybody else was still around. By far the best concert i'd ever been to.

"The Very Best of Yes" is one of my favorite CDs too.

Too bad if I can't make it to Watts open house-I was looking forward to buying you a hotdog and a pepsi Paul.

Yeah dad was born August-1960 and died April-2001. He was a teen in the 70's, which was a time for good rock music. You guys can't disown me, I've gotta have some sorta father figures.

We went to Wal-Mart last night and in the dvd's I seen a Jethro Tull concert on dvd. I bought a dvd called Big Rig, not to bad just shows the lives of truckers on the road, women truckers, and just what it's like for a trucker to go everyday and so on.

Joe - being young's OK.

You just don't have any music to call your own.

Now that I'm thinking about it -

it's really hard to believe that the music I know is all

35 to 45 years old.

That's a sobering thought.

But at least it is the best music ever written.

They can put that on my headstone!

Anyway - the moving continues from the old to the new shop.

Good for the soul - it lets me reorganize and sort out the junk.

Have a good week.

yeah...reminds me of a Pink Floyd song-"remember when you were young

you shone like the sun..."

or another Floyd song,"...and then one day you find

10 years have got behind you

no one told you when to run,

you've missed the starting gun..."

wow-they don't write music like that anymore!

being young is great, because even though you might not realize it now,it's over all too soon. Then you listen to "Time" (above) and say "oh yeah-I know what you're sayin' .wtf happened?"

If you like concert videos, look for "Delicate Sound of Thunder" by Pink Floyd. It's one of my favorite live albums. "Pulse" is great too, that's the same concert tour they were on when I saw them in Raleigh, and it's got "Dark Side of the Moon" on it in it's entirety. Good stuff.

Yeah - just be careful what you're smoking when you listen.

Ooohh - did I say that?
