Hooker Hose Co logo

based on the Mack's original logo from North Haledon, this logo signifies the journey of the Mack from North Haledon, NJ 2 North Dade, GA.

I am using the name Hooker Hose Co in honor of Union General Joseph Hooker who led his army to a victory over Confederate troops at the Battle of Lookout Mountain. Still not certain why, but where I live and where the Mack is now calling home, is named Hooker, Georgia. I've been unable to determine why a southern community decided to honor a victorious enemy General by naming many landmarks after him. Georgia Rte 299 was Hooker Road, it climbs a steep grade known as Hooker Hill, and passes a civil war era graveyard named Hooker Cemetery.

Joseph Hooker did not die here, did not have children here, and no fighting took place in this spot about 5 miles west of Lookout Mountain but through which the railroad line that his men were transported on does travel. The image in the logo is a civil war drawing from Harpers Magazine of General Hooker atop Lookout Mountain overlooking Chattanooga with the American flag. (Confederate troops were entrenched up on the mountain and firing upon Union troops below in the city in an attempt to prevent their advancing southward to join General Sherman in Atlanta)
