    • Sounds like there's some unresolved lemon issues going on, it only lasted 16k miles on that rebuild til they got fed up with it. Hopefully some old timers on here will be able to chime in.  I'd get a hold of every Tech Service Bulletin you can get your hands on. This engine should be CCRS which is Current Controlled Rate Shaping.  Basically the EUPs get fired in 2 phases, an initial one to start the burn and a second phase to complete the full injection quantity.  Pre CCRS trucks just fired the EUP in one shot. EUPs are not interchangeable. Heads are also different, the pre CCRS I believe used a leak off line from the heads, the CCRS do not.
    • As you mentioned, it’s pretty much trouble free there’s not a whole lot that can go sour and yes, I remember those vertical air tanks. I got mine off an old freight truck T100 Kenworth. In fact they wound up going to work for the same company a few years later used to be Viking freight lines Now it’s Fedex freight Oh hell, I think we’re stepping all over this guy‘s tread now perhaps got him talked into air starter ha ha.. bob
    • Thanks for all that. I think that was the problem I had I couldn’t get mine running not enough cranking power but I think I had mismatched batteries. I just decided to get rid of it all and put the air starter in. I’ll tell you what that starter was not cheap. I think I paid it thousand dollars 30 years ago exchange but yes after all these years that thing  hold air forever.
    • Have a ball enjoying the free time Bob! I expect it to be a bit unexpectedly to find out you're not going that same path to the job place every morning and should look for an affair or two to put your attention to instead. But I'm sure you will get used to that state of things really soon. And that part time involvement with the fork lift or another job seems as is a good idea. Just don't remember DM's waiting getting dust on!
    • Little bit of older photos but you can’t talk about Old Chicago Macks without bringing up Crosstowns. These guys are what started my love of Macks as a kid. My dad actually leased to them when he bought an old R Model from a previous company he worked for called PTL (Pennsylvania Truck Lines). He ended up with 2 old PTL Macks running for Crosstowns until he grew tired of the headaches of finding competent drivers. Some of my first memories is sitting on the front stoop waiting for him to come down the hill to pick me up and bring me into the city for the night.   Any trucks working for Crosstowns back then had to be painted the green. According to my dad, Art Kanark (spelling might be off on the last name) wanted them green because he was Irish. Another friend whose family is involved in Chicagoland Warehouse (another company that loves their Macks in Chicago), said they were that green because Crosstowns bought old Chicagoland Warehouse Macks.    They are still in business I think but I’m not usually in their areas anymore. I know they were selling their shop on Wood St which is where all the trucks would park inside (hence the shorter stacks). They had a beautiful old Ford 9000? hidden in there that a friend of my dad used to drive but that’s all gone now.

    • Thanks for the cheers brothers. I feel like I just got out of solitary confinement lots of time to play with the DM now. Fixing on diving. On that thing I was planning on staying with Fedex working the dock part time in the morning, but they don’t have a position for me right now so I told him give me a shout when you get a spot open extra play money for East Coast truck shows they said they would be calling me soon. They will have part-time forklift driver work pretty soon, but yes, it’s nice to be free of those long hours for at least a few weeks. It will be DM ha ha my puppies will be happy. I am here for them all day.
