    • Last week I got bored one day at the mine and parked my loader and jumped in a new Granite dump truck because I wanted to try one with the M-Drive auto. Lets start with the truck. We had some rental Peterbilts and T880's and they started falling apart so we brought these Mack's in and they have been taking the punishment. They are running 30 KM round trip loaded with 25 to 30 tonne of ore on horrible pot holed washboard.  I can say, they ride incredibly good, especially considering these ones have rubber block rear suspension. They ride every bit as good as last truck I used to run, a loaded air ride 2020 4900 Western Star. And no squeaks or rattles. Pretty impressed with the truck itself. Now the M-Drive auto. They might be good on road, but not my thing off road on hills that are shown as 15% on the dash displays in our Cat rock trucks. Actually panicked me a few times because they feel like they go in to neutral between shifts there is such a long pause. And I spun out on one hill because it decided to shift (and pause) right at the peak of the hill. Yes I know I could have used manual mode, but wanted to see how they did in auto. I did not like at all. But then I tried performance mode and performance plus and they performed a lot better. But in this application of big hills and having to slow constantly to almost a stop for giant potholes, they seem to get confused and shift way more than necessary. The MP8 505 has plenty of power to pull a gear but they would still shift down. Not my cup of tea, I'll take a manual any day. But they might be nice for use in town or for idling along with a roto-mill. Engine brake was pretty strong too, compared to Mack's of old.

    • Kinda funny, I used to think the Anthem was the ugliest Mack ever created, actually second ugliest truck after the W990, but now I'd take that any day over a Pioneer.
    • What happened in Australia was done deliberately by elected representatives, who came from the workers' side of the fence, but they were serving their new o/s masters ... ! not our people. We had world class businesses and industries, gone for ever. And it happened across Europe. In Italy, long established solid well run businesses from around 2005 and thereafter, 1 factory/business closed shop every week, minimum of 100 plus workers out of work and now empty factories lie empty. There are many incomplete factories and warehouses, bare concrete floor slabs, part precast walls erected etc. There is no prospect to complete the buildings and put them to usage. There is no money to demolish the incomplete buildings.
    • Thanks for the information. I doubt that many people have any real knowledge of what is being produced in China. Many years ago I was offered a position to manage 3 international pineapple broad acre farming, one was in Nanning, China. I declined because my colleague who had the job had kept me informed of the state of affairs in China, it was not pleasant. Zero communications at the farm, this was available in the local village at the party offices. They were flying in risky old Russian aircraft and everything was controlled in minute detail e.g. 1 box of 100 bolts was to air freighted, the box had to opened in our Melbourne office and each bolt countered to ensure there 100 bolts. Every movement of our local managers was closely monitored. The couple from Hawaii who were the onsite farm managers could not socialise with the locals. China has progressed as you have noted and objectively their build local was justified. Except, eventually we have the opposite effect in USA, Australia and Europe. And the cycle will move on. India is the new world economy that I think will far surpass China in all respects. In 2024, two major Indian airlines have placed firm aircraft orders - Air India, a 100% subsidiary of Tata Group, ordered 500 Boeing jets and the another airline ordered 500 Boeing and 500 Airbus. I understand 25 new airports have been built during the last 7 years. Modi and his team are progressing their country.
    • i try to buy american, mexican, or canada.  my laptop and desktop computers were made in mexico by lenovo. my cell phone was made in vietnam. they probably contain chinese parts, buy most everything does these days.
    • Bob, it's the same over here. Made in America, made in Australia, made in Slovakia, every country MUST have the means to support itself. Process and manufacture what is necessary to support its CITIZENS.... We have so many resources over here, as you do,  but produce bugger all now. Yet we are able to sell those same resources, ship them half way across the globe, then ship finished products back. And think that it is cost effective? It's not the countries that have been outsourced to that are the problem, they're offered work and take it on. It's the globalist agenda that's racking in all the backdoor profits. All on the back of essentialy slave labour, and destroying all our economies at the same time.
    • Airbus chose to assemble A320s in Tianjin from 2009. To date, they've produced over 750 aircraft there destined for the Chinese airlines. The administration is following China's playbook......Given we're a large country market, build here what you sell here. And that's a reasonable request from a large country market, so as to create jobs and share some of the profits. China's single-aisle COMAC CA919, that you speak of, is full of US and other western components. I suspect the trade war is going to cripple production. COMAC gained airliner experience from 1986 when McDonnell Douglas with US approval gave them a license to produce the MD82 (second generation DC9). I flew on many China Northern MD82s.
