  1. nice story, too bad no pics of the hitchhiker , I wanted to see how she stacked up to the wimmin from winfall
  2. Larry you saved me from taking pictures!!! I am going to put grade 8 bolts back in, dont know if I will cut the head off and drill it or just leave plain.
  3. Larry I will take some pictures before I cut it off so you can see what I am talking about
  4. exactly, I heated up the hanger again and tried pounding it out and then put more pb plaster to it, then let it set for awhile then tried an air hammer, nothing so I heated it again and put more pb blaster, will try again if not I am going to cut it with the tourch, the front one is rusted down about half its size in the middle, the greased pin that goes through the leaf spring takes grease so I am hoping that one will come out easy.
  5. Its time for me to pull the broken spring pack off. What's the best way to get the non lubed pins out, they have a rubber sleeve around them and just a cotter pin on one end, I started to heat up the pin but stopped when I seen the rubber smoking, I tried to drive out but they are rusted solid. My thoughts were to torch them off then drive out the ends, but I did not want to ruin anything so I thought I should ask the experts.
  6. I am confused are the trucks sold or forsale?
  7. some people use an air hammer to knock the rust loose depends on how bad it is, the biggest thing is to get it to stop rusting, lots of thoughts on this from drilling the inner frame and installing grease fittings, to soaking it with diffrent chemical soulotions or paint, I would think it really depends on how bad it is splayed/rusted
  8. Great Job!!, that is turning out really nice.
  9. not bad fuel wise, just have to remember hours of service is about to go into effect so slow maybe too slow!
  10. Good job on getting it started, wont be long before you are out cruzing!, I see the seat is already on the floor!
  11. the studs should have a L / R stamped on the exposed end of as well. You can take the impact back and sockets and use that money to fancy her up some more.
  12. I was able to source some locally anyone need some I can get them for about $1 each plus shipping just contact me, they are the correct ball face 5/8" inch course thread nuts made in USA.
  13. Congrats on the GMC, I like those trucks.
  14. probably ex airforce fueler than went to the state of OK for a forestry fire service truck
  15. thats a pretty clean truck for a 1970, still looks to have all the interior and not all torn up, would be nice if it was a diesel
  16. Thanks all, Kinda funny I thought myself I bought both the wedge and the nut and he started looking in a book and then got out a caliper then went back to the book and said if you can find a part number I can order them for you.
  17. anyone have a part number for the lug nut that holds the clamping wedge on, just got back from the parts house and they can order it if I come up with a part number unless its for a pilot hub or budd thimble they were lost They are also smaller than rear axle Lug Nut
  18. This weekend put the old curved glass back in the truck, I used standard Glass Channel with Lockstrip that was sold by the foot, it fits nicely. Was a little hard on the corners but with some time, effort and lots of lube was very doable. I could not locate any of the original type gasket with the wide rear flange, the standard gasket seems to fits nice and tight to the pinch weld so it will not leak. No pictures but my son helped me like he did on the windshield install. It is really a two person job, I could not imagine a glass guy by himself trying to install it with out breaking it. My son had to hold the gasket on the corners from wanting to roll in, perhaps if it had the wide flange it may have not rolled so much.
  19. maybe some rust or someone welded it? got a picture? my doors came right off when i pulled the bolts from the hinge to the door, I left the hinges in place on the cab then went to work on them
  20. Good Job on bring it back to life! Whats that dragging noise when you let off it, starter or flywheel? When you putting it in that Chevy Pickup?
  21. summit seems to be a pretty good to deal with I have bought stuff that local parts places could not get, would not get or wanted to bend you over for, I bought hub cabs , wheel simulators, hoses, gages etc..
  22. NTN is just the manufacture like skf/timken http://www.ntnamericas.com/en/ You might be able to look up on the web site a dealer locator
  23. just got the races in they were made by NTN, have timken numbers on them
  24. Thoses Mack trucks' look good, lots of pride in ownership! (pot stiring) and everyone complains about exporting! they look better then some of the trucks I saw today at the Mack dealer.
  25. about a year ago I hauled one of those backhoes home for my neighbor, he was going to use it keep his pond cleaned, long story short it was more welding rod, scabs and leaks than anything, he eventually got it running and then sold it with out using it, He ended up hiring a guy with an old 1940's drag line to do the pond, that when I seen it I was surprised still was running. Smoke would plume out of the cab and engine door when it would be pulling hard. The drag line looked to be in about a bad shape as that backhoe was. The drag line broke down a few times but the operator got it running and finished the pond and was able to limp it back on the trailer I thought it was going to break down and get left like the one on my father-in-law when he had a pond cleaned back in the mid 90's
