Kenworth Celebrates Millionth Truck Delivery
thomastractorsvc replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
It is Olathe, Kansas (pronounced O-layth-a) being that I am from Maine and not from the "Show Me State" I get schooled a lot on the pronunciation colloquialisms of the Towns. Hell, I didn't know Missouri had an "A" at the end but to here some of theses guys pronounce it . -
you can set up windows 8.1 to run similar to windows 7 so everything is on a desk top and pinned to a task bar.

Make sure the bolt is removed not just the nut and washer
-
If you are taking off the steering g box make sure the bolt is all the way out it should have a machined notch/groove in it the prevents the arm from coming off if it gets loose

If you go here you will see that Snap On uses Chinese manufacturing plants http://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=48808508, and I doubt just like John Deere they price point the product on where it is made. Harbor Freight uses the same manufactures and they also purchase some tools from domestic US manufactures. Does HF sell the best of everything no but I know that when I walk into the store up front. I don't want to have to chase the Snap on guy around for two weeks for $30 socket replacement when I can buy a whole set for that and return to any HF store no questions asked. The last time I took back anything and it has been a while, it was a two finger puller for stripped threads that was 10 years old and used my 18v impact on they said just grab another box, I ended up with two additional pullers because they came in a set, I asked if they wanted the extra back and they said no you had to come in. I doubt the Mac or Snap on guy would say that. I have broken just as many brand name as HF in fact I just exchanged a pair of dikes with craftsman and had to drive half way across KC because the sears outlet by me that specializes in tools and appliances can't exchange them, only the super sears does that. I disagree with your assumption that a person can't make a living using HF Tools, sometimes it is a sound business decision to buy them instead of a $1100 socket set. I have a variety of tools made by different manufactures I would guess that 40% of my hand tools are HF and I seem to be doing just fine. I have a ridged 18v impact driver that I am constantly using with a 6pt set of 3/8" drive sockets. I can honestly tell you that I have never had a customer tell me not to use HF tools on the repair. I also use my 15 year old 3/4'" HF sockets almost daily with my 1/2 and 3/4 inch air ratchets and I have never broken one, I have had to re weld a few OTC 3/4" sockets after using an impact with them.

reman with 1 year warranty same as Mack just did a report on Cummins for an international marketing course and they remain turbos for other leading OEM manufactures and suppliers according to the PR folks and there video, so like most things that are reman they start with an OEM core and make it back to new, in fact cummins has developed a process that can build up surfaces to bring it back to before OEM so the part can be re-machined and I am not talking welding, it is like a 3D print process building up material than reheating for bond, go to the cummins youtube web site and they have an 8 minute video on the reman process. I found the link in a powerpoint that I made for my presentation

Googled mack reman turbos and found this for less than $1500 they have the part number listed just match it and you should be good to go. http://www.buyautoparts.com/plabuynow.asp?year=2004&make=Mack&model=All_Models&partname=Turbocharger&partno=40-31222_R&gclid=Cj0KEQiAts-kBRCbgrXc1rnXw7MBEiQAnFqTdglMtoo6W4Oc_iZXstT2InzUI67ipfX_i7WO4TeK9vcaAjcE8P8HAQ

I here what you are saying but John Deere does not charge less for part made in China or India than one made in Waterloo Iowa.

I buy typical hand and impact tools at Harbor Freight and have had great luck. Not all of the tools are made in China the professional end tools are made in Taiwan and in ISO 9000 factory the same as in the US. China and India also has US owned/ partnered factory's that are also ISO 9000 compliant as well as other certifications and make decent tools otherwise the name brands would not make them there. I don't like to spent 3K on a 3/4 ratchet set that I can get for under $50 with a coupon at HF. I don't know who has money to buy tools like that other than the Government. I have not had any more failures with the Harbor Freight tools than I have had with other "Top Quality" brands and I don't have to fight the rep to get a replacement or wait on one to come in. Harbor Freight tools have come a long way and the standardization and compliance is very similar to the US. A HF 3/4" ratchet had a 12ft pipe, a two hundred pound man on the end of it and it still works, I had to use the HF 1" impact with a 3/4 adapter to loosen the spindle nut using a OTC socket. I have an expensive 1/2" drive non ratcheting bar style torque wrench and like what was said before the ratcheting HF style are dead on and I have never had to calibrate them. One good thing about HF is I have no qualms about making my own specialized tools out of them due to the price. I actually pick up a set or to of the wrenches or sockets to keep on the shelf just for that purpose. Years ago I used to hit pawn shops up and yard sales. The bottom line anything that is sold in the US, employs someone at a dock, rail yard, trucking company or store and you should not have to pay 3-4 times more because it is made in the U.S. Added- My neighbor holds a patent on a mud flap bracket that I am sure most have seen, when he was ready to start producing a proto type for testing he needed a mold made, (we are talking about a mud flap bracket not the hood for the space shuttle) and it was over $20K a 6 month lead time to be made in the US. He ended up finding a place, through another business deal unrelated, in China at a ISO 9000 shop which was spot on to the technical drawing and he had it in his hands in 4 weeks for 2K.

Super Dump
thomastractorsvc replied to james j neiweem's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
I like the self leveling and non dumping safety feature. Not sure what it would cost just to add the suspension and that sensor. Perhaps develop a hydraulic level sensor that could retrofit onto a traditional set up that will sound an alarm and not raise the body to prevent roll overs? My idea so whomever develops it I get a to be a percentage owner, you all read it here first! -
New low loader
thomastractorsvc replied to Timothy Maikshilo's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I was thinking the same kinda set up as the M1000 HET trailer, if I remember right the steering was accomplished by a deal that rode between the cut out on the fifthwheel to steer it. You could also manually steer it, raise and lower it, I remember more than once stopping drivers because they messed with the alignment and were doglegging in the ditch or on coming traffic. -
I was doing the old Craigslist search trying to find me a diamond that is not rough at a discount price and found a couple rare or at least different Gems. http://boston.craigslist.org/nwb/cto/4762474565.html http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/cto/4807173755.html http://providence.craigslist.org/cto/4797241119.html http://newlondon.craigslist.org/cto/4704972333.html http://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/hvo/4805305025.html http://newhaven.craigslist.org/hvo/4785803158.html
