  1. FWD if the garage is stick built put some OSB on the roof and use cellulose insulation cheap and effective, than you wont have the dramatic temp changes
  2. I can't think of any problems this would create if they are not worn out. The less wear on the top is caused by the way the suspension moves, so as long as they are still in spec in my opinion you will be fine. The difference in insulator pads is the way they are made, rubber is organic and urethane is synthetic so the hardness and the way they wear can be changed with out losing drivability, typically it is like going from a good to better. Rubber tends to start to deteriorate as soon as it is installed because of ozone, grease, freeze/thaw, dry rot etc....urethane is designed to resist all that stuff with higher load capacity, tear resistance, compression, abrasion, oil and fuel resistance, uv protectant, etc... Rubber is typically cheaper and last a fair amount of time depending on application so that is why it gets used by OEM manufactures
  3. Found this snooping the CL its East Coast but for the price someone needs to snatch it up http://williamsport.craigslist.org/cto/4262271970.html
  4. make sure the title doesn't say ford, seen a couple ads lately looking for wrecked trucks with good titles
  5. Farmer not for sure but I know that they do chrome plastic so I would think they must have a process to strip the part instead of throwing it away, give them a call and let us know, they also do regular chroming and the prices on that is very reasonable as re-plating goes. I was told they will chrome anything including animal skulls to make those fancy microphone stands for the rock and roll types
  6. there is a place in Nashville that chromes plastic Advanced Plating 1425 Cowan Ct. Nashville, TN 37207 Toll Free: 1-800-588-6686 Local: 615-227-6900 Fax: 615-262-7935 E-mail: gochrome@advancedplating.com www.advancedplating.com
  7. I have a K&N on my duramax and it improved my mileage buy 1.5 mpg, I spent about $85 on sale and have had it on now for about 3 years no problems with it and bought the oil kit too. Since it is reusable I like that and it is easy to clean with warm soap and water. The cat back system is pretty good choice, a friend has it on truck and seems happy with it. He has an off brand air filter set up from o'riellys that is like the k&n, I am sure it increased the mileage as they are supposed to guarantee fuel gains with out a tuner. I would think between the two you could get 3-5 MPGs that's not asking for much. As far as the MAP and EGR sensors, they should be cleaned every 15-20K or at least annually, they sell a sensor cleaner that you can use takes about 15 minutes.
  8. I mostly hang here, I check the ATHS site about once a week as there is not much to talk about, I used to go to the trucker report and read the long posts but there seems to be enough to read here. Like FWD I joined the duramax site looking for a question on what I could do to improve mileage with out voiding the warranty and got two responses that were not even in line with my question. I like on here that folks at least respond to questions and let you know if they don't have any idea. But I guess that just shows that Mack lovers are different people than most and I am proud of that fact
  9. Larry, Have you priced one of those switches?
  10. That's another problem with old stuff like that, subject matter experts are hard to come by anymore because it is obsolete technology and to find problems in a system like that you can do it with out much knowledge of the system if you are well versed in automotive electrical theory. Most techs if they cant hook a OBD/computer device to it to tell them where the problem is they cant trouble shoot it and most have a hard time to find an obvious broken wire. It takes some time and patients to trace and check electrical systems and the right tools and know how to use them. If you plan on doing a lot of it spend a couple bucks and buy the power probe http://www.powerprobe.com/pp3.php or at least a good multi-meter and test light that is powered
  11. stop wasting time and money and taking the chance of ruining your battery's and regulator, spend $100 and put an alternator on it. A generator system is considered unreliable because of all the things that can fail, it is old technology that not only saps your batteries but your wallet. My dad swore by that system because of it will allow a gas engine to run without a good battery so he felt if could get the tractors started he use it and when time allowed fix it, long story short he spent a lot of evenings working on the systems and repolarizing and checking grounds and replacing batteries. When I got older talked him into putting on a used 12v GM alternator on the John Deere 3020 with in a month everything that had a generator on it was changed one over to an alternator. And just like that battery's only needed to be replaced when some one stole them or years later, everything started and ran just fine. BTW that John Deere 3020 still works and has the same used alternator on it that was put on at least 30 years ago.
  12. my B leaked from the motor and I could not get it to stop and did not want to spend big money to fix since I try not to run it in the rain so I installed a shut off valve in line to the control valve, when I need to use the wipers I just turn on the valve and use like normal, and when the truck is shut off it does not leak air any more, probably not a lasting fix but one that works for me.
  13. after more than 5 years BHO owns the economy no matter what he says
