No they put them there to make more noise.More noise the more power.no muffler.they cut a hole in hood with torch big enough for the muffler to fit under hood and warped that side all to hell.took my son a lot of work shrinking back again to get oil can out.origanly came with under frame mounted exhaust.side stack was put on few years after it was new.Bob -
