  1. Every year on the Sunday before thanksgiving there is a very truck orientated model contest held in Volney NY, just east of Fulton. And each year the vendors have had all three of the ALF kits, in both built up for re-build & still in the box. There are many of us truck modelers here, as well as the Timber Modelers Forum, started by a great friend William Bitner aka Muleskinner. all types of modelers & real world historians are found there. Now, back getting ready to head to Lititz in the morning. Rick
  2. Hey Vin, I will be there & can pick up what ever Doug has for you. Then I can get things up to you as you are only a few hours north of me. Let me know if this will help?? Rick
  3. WOW, Bob!!!! Great photos of the real Sterlings. What was the color on these trucks? I would guess Yellow? Cummins powered? Ap40
  4. Nice, they are all having the good life in retirement now. Ap40
  5. CSA or could be worse & have the CSI take a hit, from some non-english speaking Volvo owner that did not get his 04 VNL with 2.1 million miles on it fixed under warranty...... Ap40
  6. EHHHH you mean 1974.......... Ap40
  7. too bad the image has been photo shopped, and poorly at that, the truck is to big to be that far away from the onlookers, it has been squished & widend to hide that real truck, and the tree on the passenger front corner of the bumper is behind & inside the left front fender...... ap40
  8. The U-700 had the taller hood to accommodate a bigger rad to cool the V-8 Mack engine. New Penn had quite a few of these, real bugger to work on.... Ap40
  9. Great photos, any of the gray beast to the left of this Peterbilt? Thanks for posting, as we just haven't figured out how to be 2 places at once. Ap40
  10. Man that is great! i needed a good laugh after today! Ap40
  11. well we all know that the whole MP engine series is a Volvo painted red w/ new silver plastic rocker covers & different intake manifold. all the internals interchange & use Volvo part numbers. Ap40
  12. Well if it truly is a M-30X (need the serial#)then something like this: 18:00x25 tires all around, Cummins NHRS-6-CI, 743 ci, supercharged, Mack TRDX-510, 8 speed duplex, FA-900 front axe & RASP-1203 for the rear. Fabricated wide flange I beam frame, semi elliptic springs front & rear. Optional engines: Cummins NT-380 or DDC 6-110, Allison CLT-5840 (Cummins) & CLT5640 (GM) box & hoist by Heil, 20 cubic yard with UT72-64 hoists. wb 165", oa width 135.2", aprox 15 5"tall. anything else? Ap40
  13. Better learn to speak Swedish & eat pickled herring. Just pathetic, what a insult to the Mack name. Ap40
  14. That would be a M-30X, 30 ton cap end dump. Although it is large, it is not the biggest Mack truck ever built, that title goes to the M-100SX, a 100 ton tandem drive axle quarry truck / prime mover. Of which only 3 were ever made. it was powered by a 12V-149TT and rode on 21:00 x 35 rubber. ap40
  15. That big DMM trash truck is a ex-Robinson-Vitale concrete wagon. Great find! even better action shot. Ap40
  16. The one we had for a while had a Mack transfer case & a Marmon Harrington front drive axle. With the automatic tranny, we used it to pull site trucks hauling crane parts out of problem areas. still had the salt spreader on the back, which we filled with sand for ballast. Ap40
  17. Here is the basics on the 3 axle M series power plant options, All could be had as either a prime mover or a dump. There were a few M-45SX bed trucks that went to the North Slope oil field in Alaska. I saw one up close 15 years ago, just massive. The Hoffman was a M-100SXT with a DDC 12V-149TT. The M-75SX & M-70SX could be had with the DDC 16V-71TT or the Cummins VT-1710 (Gerosa, Mashburn) The M-45SX could have DDC 12V-71TT, the Cummins VT-1710, later production units had a option of the Cummins KTA-600 (Gerosa, Hallamore, Premay, Mammoet...) the M-32SX, either a Mack ENDT-866, DDC-12-71 or 8V-71T, Cummins KTA-450 or NTA-370 the M-15SX choises included Mack ENDT-866, END-866, Cummins NTA-370 & DDC 8V-71 We can get into the 2 axle versions of the M series if you like.... Ap40
  18. Outstanding photos! Link heavy haul...looks like the truck is the former Mashburn heavy haul out of Texas? Any more photos of this or the Autocar? Ap40
  19. Nice, In looking thru the other photos on the link given, pay particular attention to rear axles & spring / beam mounting. This is in fact the last model of the LR series known as the LYSW. The rear axles & combination spring & walking beam is what became the rears for the M-45SX. Of the tandem axle LR's the LY is one of the rarest, Ap40
  20. This show is a MUST for any Mack nut who has not yet attended. It has also become THE show that my wife gets excited to go & see the equipment and all our old friends. Ap40rocktruck
  21. For What???? Ap40rocktruck
  22. OKAYYYY, Most of what I heard was Mack, Mack with only a few references to the parent company Volvo. That aside, Home run! for preserving such an important segment of American Manufacturing History.
  23. And now we are going to piss away 3 BILLION to help solve starvation in AFRICA, mean while we have rampant homeless & hunger here at home. WTF. I am thinking of another country to live, where ENGLISH is the rule, and Mack & KW are still made in the true spirit. http://www.9wsyr.com/news/local/story/Obama-touts-3B-in-pledges-to-help-feed-Africa/t_DKAbRiQUyhV-Ohv1NGVg.cspx Ap40
  24. also check the flex pipe, connects the turbo outlet to the hard exhaust pipe. prone to failure, causing EG in the cab. Rick
  25. There are several new hotels up around the intersection of 100 & 22. 20 years ago we were staying in western Allentown. Now there are so many to choose from very close. Just google macungie PA, go to the map & search for hotels.... Cheers, Rick
