  1. DD.... Budd nut wheel torque values are on the internet in many sources...and can be all over the place for data. Your parts supplier should be able to provide it from the manufacturer. in general, the data from the 50/60's I have is lower than that of today... so I use later info as it has been increased due to a review of failures over many years... usually a cascade failure of the wheel studs caused by loose inner nuts... correct re-torque on your pm's should be to loosen off the outer nut and check the inner, followed by re-torque of outer nut.. it was not unusual to find a joined set of budd wheels sitting on the freeway... I recently saw a Prevost coach have that failure near me. old data from 1956 GM books is ... inner, 300-325..... outer, 350-400 average of newer data is... 450-500 for both if steel wheels, 400-500 for both if Alcoa these values are for dry threads, drop the torque if you lube the threads.. and no lube on the ball seats. these numbers are not far off the later hub-pilot style of flanged nuts which are in the region of 500ft/lb. if you end up changing the studs due to lack of grip length then the back nut is 175-200... and don't pound them out with a sledge while the hub is still installed, the wheel bearings don't last long after that. I assume you have steel hubs, not a big issue pressing them out... I get a lot of alum hubs on the old coaches and they have to be put in an oven first.... and don't forget which side the hub goes back on..!! :-) HTH BC Mack

    SOS

just from memory here no photos, my 93 18spd has a trans cooler built into the bottom tank and my 89 12spd does not.. not sure how this option affects the tank size you may find... just mentioning it in case it matters. BC Mack
  3. I have an E9 in my MH and bought another truck for parts, both are in Squamish... if you can do all your own maintenance and get into problems early... and do NOT overheat them.... then it is a good engine for what you are doing. Don't expect any parts on the shelf at the dealer, you are going to have to build up a contacts list. If you take it to the local dealer they will get confused 'cos they can't plug a laptop into it... LOL !!!! BC used to have a good E9 population in the eighties and nineties, with our big hills, greater weights and super B's at 140,000lbs it was one of the few 500hp engines at that time... not too many of them around here anymore. One of our members here recently picked up a cache of engines and parts from a guy in South Surrey, and there is an ex dealer in Kamloops that has some parts. in our BMT for sale section there is an ad from a logger from the Island with five? Superliner's with E9's for sale, maybe worth talking to him about parts and maintenance tips. BC Mack
  4. a tube of "muffler cement".... might be better than the ht silicone? BC Mack
  5. I think this may have come from our Wiki or a BMT poster... BC Mack sb136012 air suspension[1].pdf
  6. "Disc brakes’ advantages over drum brakes include better performance, longer pad life," I doubt their claim that disc pad life is longer than a drum shoe.... we go through 3x the pads to drum shoes on comparable weight and power transit buses... rotor life is about the same mileage but calipers are $1600 throw always as we don't accept rebuilt units due to the pad wear electronics being proprietary and nobody can re-certify a rebuilt part. We do boots and that's it. On a dollar per mile we are not seeing any great financial gain, even hoist time is similar when you factor in 3 short shop visits for pads to one long one for drum brakes... and the disc heat transmitted through the grease filled bearings has been a problem from day one until we found a very expensive grease on our own without axle oem help. Now... don't get me ranting about Allison Hybrids...!!!!! :-) BC Mack
  7. mine does the "speil" check for me... look for the red underline... I'm on a laptop, not sure if this feature works on a phone. BC Mack
  8. I've had similar problems with Alum Budds replacing steel when working on older MCI coach conversions some time ago, generally we left steels on the inner... only cure I've used is new longer studs to get a deeper purchase of the inner nut. I also see the same problem on front hubs, there has to be two threads showing after full torque (dot rules). I think there is a solution to the rear inner nut, I've seen but can't locate a supplier of a deeper thread nut that gets a better grip on the original stud and thicker rim. maybe someone has the solution already documented, try a Euclid catalogue as they are my supplier of the regular studs and nuts. If I find any references in my old bus info I will post it. Whatever you do, make sure you have enough thread purchase on the inner nuts, I've seen a lot of Budd duals still bolted together on the side of the road, one stud fails and it cascades as the load transfers to the adjacent stud. 9. Are those cab supports OEM?? mine didn't come with them, do you have a partnumber? now's the time to get everyone hopping... swap out to a driptroit 12V71 BC Mack
  10. they can come to Canada... ONLY... if you take Randy Quaid back..!!!! Deal??? BC Mack
  11. got it.... found that thread after I posted this message and the blue dot is what I was after... thanks BC Mack
  12. I'm as confused as you are... you're right, last system for 'unread' brought you to the newest entry that you have not seen, it remembered where you left off... even if you were away for a week you could catch up.. now, when I click 'unread content' it takes me to page 1 of the subject and I have to find where I left off and it is not always at the last page... obviously it's my fault... LOL will someone write a "BMT Forum for dummies" book BC Mack
  13. I think this is the truck with square visor you are discussing.. BC Mack
  14. When I was last there to pick up the black one... the pale blue one is owned by Reddecopps, there was a dark blue glider that still had most of an E9 in it, a yellow cab and frame in the weeds and the two you bought... plus one and a bit Cruiseliners still there too. that engine was "sold" last year but not picked up yet, Carl spent good money to get the pump and injectors done.. it was removed out of his now sold 94, he put a Cat into that one as he really needed the exhaust brake for the work he was involved in. There must have been more over the years, I bought a pair of 44 axles that came off a clean truck and he has lots of used and new parts.... he probably cleaned up the region of E9 MH's as there are only a few left in this area. keep me posted when you plan to pick up BC Mack
  15. So... you found Carl...!!!! http://www.bigmacktrucks.com/index.php?/topic/42061-mh-and-cruiseliner/ I am withing an hour of him.... super nice guy I assume this white MH is the truck you bought? I will PM you... BC Mack
  16. Holy Crap..!!! as Canadians we are somewhat insulated from this Obama Care... and while ours is not the world's best, waiting times can be long, if you need asap service it is there.... here is what we pay on the left coast... other Provinces may vary.... and my employer pays mine as a contract item our union negotiated. http://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/health/health-drug-coverage/msp/bc-residents/premiums if you are sickly, come to Canada, every other nation is coming here, why not you Yanks...!!! BC Mack
  17. That's a 'local' one to me... Kamloops BC spoke with Jason a few times, a great 'Mack Guy'... that's him in the last photo in the black shirt think I posted a few of these before... but, it's a Superliner so no excuse for another look BC Mack
  18. Hi Bob not much knowledge on the F7/F9 train stuff but from what I gather listening to the chatter in the lunchroom from the guys with the polka dot hats... one painted burgundy is CP, the other two were originally CN, latest one came from Waterloo and prior to that was VIA.... paint on the MH is staying as-is, still in good condition and repaint not in the budget right now... yes, it is the Buursma Contracting colours, prior to that it was the dark brown of Kingsley Trucking which I was considering for later but think it might look too much like UPS... http://www.kingsleytrucking.com/en/ yes... shop is in Squamish rail yard. BC Mack
  19. thank you..
  20. a bit early.... April 1st is two months away... BC Mack
  21. okay..!! ship it to the left coast, I'll call when it's ready... BC Mack
  22. the floor carpet either side was really grubby from muddy boots, but a good detergent wash and the fibres looked fine, no worn out areas so put them back in... this time with floor mats I pulled out of my F150 when I bought it new. the centre hump was a mess of dog hair and a couple of cig burns, since it is glued to the foam which is then glued to the hump I just spent time with a vacuum and carpet shampoo. what you can see in the photos is the number of different "greys"... varying lots of dye produce panels that have a slight tint difference when lit by a camera flash... but looks fine in daylight. yes, the interior was completely washed down, I pondered putting some noise insulation but will see how I feel after running it for a while... the side and ceiling panels can be removed in less than an hour so it is not a big job... under the mattress may get some acoustic and thermal material later. The sidewalls have factory thermal insulation in the sandwich of fibreglas. BC Mack
  23. I am not a train buff, just renting a spot in a railway museum.... there are three of these F7/F9's in the building most days and a B unit outside.. for a moment there, when I saw "F7" I had flashbacks to my old Volvo days... but then realised you were talking about the 3000hp two strokes and my heart rate went to normal if you are a buff I can post a short video I took of one BC Mack
  24. thanks Timmy I detached the glass from the vertical slide and operated the switch, as the slider moves down it stops so it isn't the glass but probably dirt or something jamming the vertical slide... just looking for a product model or some clue so I can go searching the net for drawings... I think it is made by Sprague but that gives me a million hits on google, so just trying to skinny down the search... of course, if someone has fixed these then I would appreciate any info BC Mack
  25. last photos... as mentioned, my parts truck has arrived, picked a crappy day pouring with rain but the price was really good from a nice local trucker... once we got it off and moved to the side... it ran out of fuel..!!! tanks were known to be very low but I think the ramp angle did it.... filled the filters and away I went like a drowned rat.. well, that's the summary to date, more in a few months... got a punch list the length of my arm. and again.. if anyone has info on the Sprague air window please let me know BC Mack
