  1. next... finally got to install the drom rack.... it was probably a foot too long but after fitting it won't give me any tire issues, and, I'm not hauling trailers so... more room for my crap..!!!! I can take the bbq to a truck show. installing was fun with just one of me.... but a 50ton overhead crane and it was done with no issues, just love playing with that crane..!!!! when my parts truck arrived, I stripped out the interior right away, cleaned easily and was installed... justified buying a whole truck..!!! the stack of panels that came off my truck will be tucked away, I might be making new ones and use these as templates.
  2. next batch of photos... tidied up the mirrors and arms, replaced rusty bolts with stainless right door has a power window.... has anyone ever overhauled one of these??? goes down part way then gets stuck and won't lift it up... however, when glass detached the glass slides freely... my parts truck has the same issue so have to fix one of them. then the engine got some work, found the hoses were old and hard, so heater, coolant, power steering and rad hoses were replaced... with all the hoses off I found my oil leak, brass elbow on compressor oil line was cracked. of note, the lower rad hose elbow has a very close clearance to the front mount, as the mount got oily the rubber squished enough to allow a slight rub which split it inside.... nice catch, new rubbers and raising the rad mount 3/8" and all is well.
  3. Well, a bit more work happened to my "summer" project during the winter months... I managed to get the truck stored inside and got enough ahead that I won't have to rush around in the spring to get it ready for show season. even though a truck looks good it's always smart to rip it apart anyway... even if the only reason is to remove the dirt, I find this a big problem on my bus and it seems to retain dampness which gives off the "wet dog" aroma. anyway... as this is a pictorial, off we go. interior walls and ceiling stripped out heater box was filthy but in good shape by chance I found a dodgy light switch which was poorly repaired, will correct this. got my new roof marker lights fitted and sealed up, much easier without the headlining the overhead panel had some de-bonding of the partitions so this was repaired, but a pain to lift and install by myself.
  4. all I have electronic on my 93MH E9 500/inline pump is the tach, sender is by the flywheel got to take a closer look at my 89 parts truck, it's a 500 with a V pump... just got delivered so haven't gone over it yet. BC Mack
  5. think I'd go with the smaller, older, DS14..... 375hp is all I need and I like the sound of them better than later electronic engines, rougher idle.. might fit in the frame easier too. would it then be a... Macnia or a Smack??? BC Mack
  6. look more like solar panels..!! otherwise... NICE BC Mack
  7. As said in another thread.... if that was a E9 Superliner it would be twice the price, or more, yet the same truck under the bodywork..!!!! my cure for the E9 parts shortage... buy lots of used engines..!!! BC Mack
  8. Says... "Port Kells BC" on the door.... that's my backyard..!!!.... where is it now? BC Mack

  11. EXACTLY..!!!! KSC... I've been away so long I don't think my box of whitworth spanners will work on their trucks....!! however, I hear there are truck loads of "skilled workers" heading for the UK... BC Mack

  15. photo pulled from the net... site is friendly..!!! Andy Maclean has just written this book, a colourful view of driving an R model in Europe of the 70's... http://www.oldpond.com/fifty-shades-of-tarmac.html he worked for a conglomerate of companies owned by a Turk, based in the UK and operating with Iranian registered Macks and drivers... under the banners of OHS, ICC or Contex. OHS eventually took over PIE in UK/EU. if anyone has an interest in the company or Iranian Macks I can post or pm the related threads. one of the photos in a thread about OHS is believed to be of Iranian registered Brockways of the organisation, however, they may be Turkish. any of the Brock guys know of these? 16. Here is my SLC experience.... shipping had a glitch, but it was border/customs/brokerage fees related... I recommend anyone in Canada have them posted rather than UPS. product met my expectations, the curve didn't match my roof but nor did the old ones, foam made up the gap and squeezed down just enough to seal out water but I added silicone to threads and wire hole... price was very nice....!! bolt kit didn't provide long enough "short" bolts so bought some s/s screws from HD... bulb was newer style sealed unit which should keep out the rain better. and for your visual needs... pics attached BC Mack
  17. where in Canada are you....? and yes... pics do help. BC Mack
  18. shortage of mechanics???? we have about 80 apprentices at work... I wouldn't have hired 90% of them..!!!! every time I turn around to show them how to do something they got their thumbs all over the phone.... one day I locked a phone in my toolbox, the dickhead complained to the Supervisor and I was given a verbal warning..!!! so... no more apprentices work with me, I've banned them, their loss as I am very willing to share 45 years of knowledge with them... the will to work has gone with this 'entitled' generation, but no problem spending the good wages..... and don't get me wound up about the 'counter warmers' in the parts department.. 19. Vlad http://www.cargoforwarder.eu/2015/11/22/breaking-news-volga-dnepr-crew-murdered-in-bamako-terrorist-attack/ http://www.aircargoweek.com/funeral-volga-dnepr-crew-killed-mali-terrorist-attack/ I was in the aviation industry for twenty years and this has got to be a very rare occurrence outside of a hijack... met a few of these crews when they were in partnership with Heavylift UK.... no language barriers when plane-nuts get together. 20. Well.... now that you have it in... they do make window rubber that is self locking, you just tuck in the flap... should have said something earlier but the light bulb just lit..!! BC Mack http://www.crlaurence.ca/crlapps/showline/default.aspx?GroupID=20854&History=30587:19748:19783&Pom=

  22. the thread has expanded now to three pages with an interesting 2015 article on UK F700's.. http://www.trucknetuk.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=127603&start=60 good perspective on how other countries perceived and used Mack products BC Mack
  23. come at it from the other side..!! I couldn't find the size of alignment tool I needed so I loaded the spicer clutch onto the trans input shaft, put two cut down bolts into bellhousing for alignment and it rolled in easy...a bit of wiggling got the cover bolts on... only downside is constantly turning the engine to torque the cover bolts... 24. Stina the UK market for Scania and Volvo grew dramatically when the LB110-260hp and F88-240hp were imported in about 1968, big hp was unknown at that time but some quick thinking companies opened up European and Middle East routes where no UK truck was fit to go. With the LB140-350hp and later, and much better, LB141-375hp it set a challenge to other truck manufacturers... I think this is the period that Mack may have had some involvement, Scania had sold Mack engines in the past but I'm not exactly sure if the V8 was just a collaboration at a theoretical level or if they had common parts.... others may have better information. I was in a dealer network that had Volvo trucks in our group and was in the same area of a Scania dealership... so in the mid 70's I had an advantage to see technology far ahead of other UK trucks with wood frame cabs and 150hp Gardner engines... fuel economy and light weight truck = more payload, and that is what drove the manufacturing industry in the UK to its grave. Nice that you have restored those trucks, before getting my MH I looked into importing a 141 or F89... but the prices were too shocking... but we do have a handful of 143's in N America. My MH was operated at 63,500kg here in Canada hauling a B train, two trailers... our standard weights are heavier than in the US. BC Mack
  25. Welcome to BMT Stina... very interesting axle arrangement on the F12, I remember that Sweden has higher weights than most of Europe.. in my very early days I was working on the F88 (UK spec 290) and 140... the very first Scania V8's were not very good, unreliable, but it settled in well by the time they introduced the 141. Today the engine is a leader. like you I am interested in discovering the early relationship between Mack and Scania with V8 technology transfer/sharing.. currently I have a Mack 500hp E9 in my truck but still can't get it to sound like a V8 Scanny...
