  1. Vision Thanks for the Hendrickson Picture, as they continued to buy and use IH Cabs for most of their truck building years. Green Dash Since in 1955 (+/- a year) DT already had the 921 "China Closet" COE which got squared off to the 931 in 1961 for their own COE. The DT historians believe that this picture was an example of how close the DT and IH design and engineering departments worked together from the end of WW2 thru the White purchase days. DT originally contracted the Murty Bros of Portland OR design the "low cab forward" model which IH liked and eventually bought the rights to. Appearently the truck in this picture was built in the DT facility in Chicago by and/or under contract to IH during the middle 50's as a COE to replace the Highbinder. Whether it was for lack of space in Springfield Ohio or for industrial security purposes is unknown? So to answer your question, YES, DT / IH pulled the double stacking maneuver about 10 years ahead of Ford.
  2. Big Dog You could say that, or the reverse!! Here is a picture of the DT 931 COE badged a REO. In the 60's White Motor was building DT's, REO's and heavy duty special order White's all on the same line in the old REO plant in Lansing Mich. We had a long discussion of this a couple of years ago on the old ATHS What Am I? forum. There was definitely a lot of mix and match of parts going on. It was possible for three identical trucks to come down the line and then come out the door badged three different brands!!! We guess it was what ever brand the customer wanted or what White though might sell..
  3. The John Deere Hendrickson pictured above is not a ComfoVision cab.. It looks more like the A model cab which followed.
  4. OD Thanks for the pictures. Great to see you on level ground (I-20).. Did you know how to act???
  5. Here is a front view of another sharp N model and the lady who built it.
  6. During the post war late 40's,No one knows exactly how much input Diamond T had in the development of the Comfo Vision Cab, But there was a lot of interaction on a personal level of the Design and Engineering departments with IH. Diamond T also built some heavy duty, special order R model IH's on their Chicago line. Attached is a picture of an Emeryville prototype badged as a DT taken outside the DT plant. The Comfo Vision cabs were stamped by the Chicago Cab Co and Diamond T assembled their own so there are some differences in cab mounts and cowl configurations. I do not know if the other companys who used them bought the pieces or bought them assembled?? In 1958-9 when White Motor bought out Diamond T, the close working relationship with IH dissapeared and in 1960 the DT production moved to the REO plant in Lansing Mich using the REO cab with an optional Autocar cab. By 1965-66 the Autocar cab became standard, Then on May 1st, 1967 White motor combined the two and created the name Diamond REO.

  14. Dumb Question?? Would'nt it be easyer to just swap the whole axle on the U-bolts???
  15. Maddog Yes that is the "stick Mixer". Dean Baldwin sold it to a man with the user name (on the Brockway forum) Stretch from Canastota NY. This last winter he replaced to original black steel body with this aluminum one. The original name "Stick Mixer" was on the front of the overhead over the cab and I do not recall seeing a picture of the new body to see if Stretch moved the name to the new body?? The picture Mark posted was taken last year in front of the Museum in Cortland at the Friday night fireworks show. Brocky
  16. Check the air supply filter. If it is plugged up, it will create a vacuum in the compressor which would draw oil up around the rings.
  17. Here is a Mack big brother still in service.
  18. Mark There are also some more pictures of it by Jeff Lakaszcyck on www.forums.justoldtrucks.com // Peter J's Place // Whose going to Macungie topic back a page from the front and on pages 6 & 7 of the topoic. Jeff also posted an email he got from the owner and a picture of it in its working days. Hope this helps Brocky
  19. My wife and I went thru the museum on our way to Yakima. An excellent facility with about 60 (+/-) trucks. Well worth the time spent.. Hopefully in the next couple of years we will make it back up to the Jamboree with my DT 201.
  20. Double clutching.docJTF Here is another "double clutchin" article I wrote for another news letter. Hope it helps a little. Brocky
  21. The Ford Factory came out with the T-800 tandem drive in 1954. Before that all Ford 10 wheelers were an aftermarket Tag/pusher axle either installed by a dealer or conversion shop, although I believe you could order the longer frame from Ford to mount it on? From the late 20's on there were several companys who made aftermarket tandem drive conversions. Mr. Don Chew of Littleton Colo is the expert on them. He writes articles about them in Shirley Spoonholtz's magazine Old Time Trucks. If you have a serious inquery PM/Email me and I will send you his snail mail addy as he does not have a computer.
  22. Interesting engineering to get it put together, BUT that is about all I can say about it. Brocky
  23. Here are 2 late 70's Brockways still in service. Granted they are smaller towns/villages so are not called out that often.
  24. Also the oppisite of what Hat City said. If the trailer is TOO HIGH you will have to crank it down till it touches the fifth wheel.. If not the trailer pin will slide all the way over and past the fifth wheel, and if you go too far the glad hands will be in the back of the cab. Then you have fun getting it back over ther 5th wheel. Brocky
