  1. In the past 2-3 years we have had several 2-4 rated quakes within a 50 mile radius of Columbia SC.
  2. I have driven all three types of 2 speed shift.. The air was on some old Brockways and worked excellent.. The only vacuum shift was on an old GMC, with the flipper valve under the dash, it seemed you had to let completely off the gas to create vacuum enough for it to sorta force the shift.. Never had any problems with the electric ones??
  3. That much weight on a tag-along trailer behind a 3/4 ton pick up????"? Better him than me!!!!!!!!
  4. OK!! What was it????????????
  5. Do some checking.. I have heard that in 5th AND you run the 2 speed rear on the low side it tears things up????? 4th over to 5th over and back..
  6. Are you bringing it to York and Macungie??? I plan on both..
  7. KS, I believe you are probably correct.. Your answers mesh with the questions I asked in my earlier post..
  8. I know nothing about large ships, BUT are the rudder and propulsion equipment computer controlled??? So that the loss of power creates loss of control?? If so, what about all the computer control of airplanes and trucks??? Accidents waiting to happen???
  9. Congratulations!!!!!!!! Welcome to the "Tired Iron World" !!!!!!! Going to be a snug fit for Zina and 3 dogs in it on the way to shows??
  10. Gary Mahan has a BIG checkbook, so I presume he got the trailer also?? And will display them together at his home collection, But probably only take the tractor to shows?????
  11. Matt, He might bring it to Macungie when he gets it ready??? He has brought some large stuff before like the big War time Mack water wagon from the INCO nickle mine in Ontario..
  12. Swishy, Thank You!!! That looks a lot like whatever road our bus was on coming southwest out of Cairns up into the tableland. With some very pretty waterfalls, the fig tree with a boardwalk around it, and good dairy farming country.
  13. Paul, Our bus trip from Cairns to Townsville, vie Lake Tineroo, sure did go up over and back down some crooked hilly roads!!!
  14. And then to driver training!!!!!! Started first driving was at 8-10 0n farm tractors, and farm trucks in the field. In 1962 2nd half of my senior year in high school took Drivers ED in a 1962 Dodge Dart, 318, 3 speed Torque Flight, then took my road test on my mothers 1952 Dodge with Fluid Drive.. Took my NYS Class 1 Chauffeurs test in 1967 on a 1953 Brockway 154, Flathead Continental gas job, 5th direct trans, and air 2 speed.
  15. This all started in the mid 1960's when the child psychologists said the parents should "talk to the kids" not Whup their Butts!!! The part they left out was you had to get their attention first, which usually involved some butt whupping!! NOW 50 years later no one has any respect for authority or them selves..
  16. Converting to Hub Pilot rims will be VERY expensive as you would have to change the spoke hubs to Bud style hubs. Check out the local trucking companies as they may have a pile of 22.5 rims in the back corner as they replaced equipment with disc style wheels. If you have a friendly local tire store check with them on finding you some reasonable radial "take offs" with decent tread especially if you are only going to use it as a hobby truck with NO water load... The radials will give you better ride and handling.. Take your time and ask around locally before you jump into all new.
  17. You Tube Slim Dusty!!! He was the greatest Australian country singer ever... Mostly he told tales of Australian history in the Tom T Hall style as well as about 70 trucking songs... Recorded 104 albums in his lifetime, Sang "Waltzing Matilda", the unofficial national anthem, at the closing ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
  18. One of our local septic tank cleaners has a small "mini excavator" mounted on the frame on back of his truck behind the tank. Hydraulics from the PTO..
  19. I have seen a picture of, I think (???) it was a COE car hauler, where the sleeper was under the passenger seat and went lengthwise with your feet out over the engine...
  20. I could go out and trim the weeds NOW!!!
  21. Paul, That is an interesting sleeper.. I have never driven a truck with a "crawl thru the window" sleeper.. but many small "sit in" bunks.. At 6'4" and 250 lb, I presume it would be SNUG!!!
  22. YEAH!!! The Compact was the square replacement for the 3000, looked a lot like the MB..
  23. Bob, I am 6'4" and had no problems with the 3000, BUT the Compact was a horse of a different color!!!
  24. In 1969 I drove a White 3000 in the city of Syracuse NY for over a year.. Then they replaced it with a Compact.. There was not room enough between the wall under the seat and the clutch pedal to bring my foot up onto the clutch!!! Had to swing it over the brake and back.
  25. Mech, Same down here: Last Saturday night on I-26 north of Spartanburg SC, Dry Road, 4 or 5 cars and 1 tractor trailer.. Big A$$ FIRE and 5 people from one family dead.. NO more details on the news as to cause???
