  1. I think(??) that the race riots of the mid / late 60's was the down fall of the open cabs. TOO MUCH $H*T thrown on the drivers enroute to an event!!!!
  2. Green Dash I believe on that 45 miles of PA on 90, CF just used a regular tractor with a big ballast block in place of the 5th wheel and a pintle hitch to drag the kite trailers back and forth.
  3. Yes Mark I definately remember those. One of the nicknames was "suicide doubles".. PA did not allow doubles so this made them into a truck trailer which was legal. They basically ran between York PA and Akron OH. As said above it was a long wheelbase single axle with a long slide on the 5th wheel and the lead pup had folding landing gear. The lead pup was dedicated to break bulk freight between the 2 terminals and the rear would be any long haul pup.
  4. Mark In the early 70's CF had some of those Freightliner 4X4's running between Buffalo and Boston pulling twin 28 ft pups on the NY Thruway and Mass Pike back when the NYT regulations said that doubles had to have 2 driving axles.. UPS and everybody else was pulling 2 40 or 45 footers with twin screw tractors.
  5. Thanks fro the Google picture..Guess I am a big dummy?? Never looked around that much coming out to 29 from Bedford..
  6. When that sign hits some wires it should be an "electrifing experience"!!!
  7. Here is a Brockway on an IH U-Haul chassis.
  8. I have loaded many van loads at Wheelabrator..A regular back haul from our DC in Luray.. Never noticed the weather dome on the mountain?? In the van they use 30 gallon drums on pallets, 18 to 22 of them in a single line down the center, with NO blocking!! Especially on an aluminum floor!! Have to take the corners real easy all the way to Laredo.. Thanks for all the pictures.. Actually I would rather have your snow than the rain at 28 degrees that built up ICE on everything and knocked out our power for about 6 hours.
  9. Mr Peeler Welcome to the Dog House Please be aware that The ATHS Palmetto Upstate chapter has both a spring and fall show in the Greenville SC area and we definately welcome working trucks in addition to antiques.. Just give 'em a bath and show up.. PM me thru here or email me at brocky45@prtcnet.com for more info
  10. Welcome to the Doghouse Plenty of info here and also some BS
  11. 28f here south of Greenville SC and raining!! Hope the ice does not take down the power lines..
  12. Our condolences and prayers to his family and friends Brocky and Nelle

    ATHS

There is some talk over on JOT about it.. If you had it set in your favorites / bookmark already you go to it with no problem.. BUT if you go to the home page from Google there is no listing for the forum.
  14. Mike I believe the father Lee has passed away.. The son Tim is still a member of ATHS.. There is no activity around the shop when you go by.. The lawn is mowed but the brush in the back lot had grown up to hide all the trucks from the road..
  15. Just think of all the fun with customs and EPA coming in from Russia!!!!
  16. Info can be found at aths.org and antiquetruckclubofamerica.org
  17. Paul Am sorry to hear this.. please remember you have family here at BMT and you can cry on our shoulders anytime..Ask for advise and / or vent your system..
  18. OD Welcome back.. Your Grilling pictures are always interesting.. Makes me hungry!!!
  19. Tom Thank the Lord you are OK.. Sure am glad to see you posting.. I guess I am an old "worry wort" and know how thing can happen without the word being passed to friends..
  20. An inexperienced, usually younger, show off type driver with the attitude that he knows it all.
  21. Sorry to hear about that fire.. Over on PlowSite.com they have blamed several Hgwy Dept shop fires on chaffed / rubbed thru battery cables on plow equipment.
  22. BD Man Thank you for making the call..Glad to hear it was not something "Super Serious"!!! Sounds like his trip to the dentist was worse than being in a truck stop surrounded by Steering Wheel holders..
  23. Welcome to the DOGHOUSE!!! From that angle it looks like an A model produced from about 1950 to 1954.. If it is just that size you are looking for there are probably more B ('55 to '70) and R ('65 to '80) models and parts available. Power options will depend on how far from home you want to go and how fast you want to get there.. The old gas jobs usually only top out at 50 MPH!! Next is what are your restoration / Refurbrushment skills?? It is almost always cheaper to buy one already reworked and roadworthy rather than do a resto job.. Keep your eyes peeled here in the for sale section, Classified ads in Wheels of Time and Vintage Truck magazines, both of which are available at Tractor Supply, Fleabay, Craigs list, Truck Paper, and the other sale listings sites. It will also help if finish you profile so we know where you are?? That way the word of mouth on here will also help.
  24. We did not hear from him all weekend?? No pictures of the week?? Kidnapped by Winfall Wimmin?? My prayers are in hopes he is OK??
