I'm sorry-I just don't like him or trust his motives. For me it started with his refusal,or inability,to bring forth the documents proving his birth Country to be America, which is Constitutionally required to run for President. He's spent millions of dollars to bury his past records regarding how he could go to College in the USA on an Indonesian scholarship and be an American-born citizen. His own wife has said publicly that he's not an American citizen (Actually she said he's a proud citizen of Indonesia,I believe.)He signed off on the Health Care Bill,(admittedly, there's some good things in it,but the bad outweighs the good a hundredfold),and he ran the National Debt up more in less than a year in office than the past 10 Presidents put together. His Stimulus Packages, which he said would get out economy back on track and ultimately help the people get back to work, have failed to improve the economy or reduce the unemployment problem. Then, there's the Bank Bailouts, which gave banks that played fast-n-loose with peoples' lives,MORE money to keep doing the same stupid tricks AND pay the worst offenders among them huge bonuses. There's plenty more but I want to be fair about this. He has nice teeth and a great speaking voice-he should be on radio! Sorry if this seems harsh-guess I'm just venting from the home BS that's been going on here. I'll be okay tomorrow--but the USA won't,until Obama,Reid and Pelosi are completely out of Politics. Speed

I'd be surprised if our alleged President doesn't find a way to ramrod it through to completion, like he's been doing with all his other "one world" ideas,in the name of "International Goodwill"....

Probably because if they were ballasted down, there wouldn't have been the opportunity for awesome pics like this one. .....

This administration would be funny,if it wasn't so scary!!

Damn--does that mean I hafta scrap it anyway?

I'd have to say I like the B better;of course,as you may have guessed, older is better in my world... Speed

Out here trucks don't generally rust much except for cab corners and the occasional passenger side floor, where the tow chain lives every Winter. What happens here is the pack rats and field mice LOVE old trucks,so they nest all over the inside of the truck. Favorite places are inside the seats,in the air filter,in the heater box,in the headliner, behind the dash, behind the seat,I even found a nest in the gas tank of a truck I got once...and they chew the covering off any wiring they see;that can make for interesting times when trying to make a field-stored truck run. Hi all; Well,I went out and got pics of the new truck and wrote down ID numbers off the truck and Brown Lipe transmission,so I'll be trying to figure out what's what on it. The Brownie appears to be a 3 speed, model 5531,serial number 51501,just in case there's anybody with a book on these things. I'm waffling on whether to pull the running gear to put in my '57 GMC dump truck or leave it as is and do the little work it'll take to make it a driver and just drive it. Or maybe put the 5 speed and 302 in the dump truck and build a running 270/4 speed set up (The current running gear in the dump truck) to run in this truck. I discovered the old truck has relatively little rust, and is just in such good shape (And it's a '54,my year of birth)I just can't make myself consider getting rid of it. As soon as my trailer's done I'll probably go get the Ford truck I traded for it and deliver that, then go back and bring the GMC home to work on,see if it'll run and drive. Hope I can figure the picture thing out. Speed

I'm not real good on the posting video etc. but I'll get 'er figured out somehow. I just acquired another truck (Like I need another truck!!);I traded an old '73 Ford pick up for a 1954 (My birth year) GMC 350 (2 Ton)Conventional cab flatbed. No title (I can get one for $240.00),sheet metal and glass is good, seat is good, tires are not,but they all hold air,it's complete, was driven to where it is now,and I'm into it exactly NOTHING! Best of all,it has a 302 six,BIG 5 speed (possible a 5th over??),2 speed axle and a Brownie. Don't know a lot about it yet,but plan to go pull all the ID numbers off it and see what I have in the next couple of days. When the owner said he was selling it for scrap at $50.00/ton,I knew I had to save it. I need to get another camera, but will get pics as soon as possible. Even though this isn't a ,we ALL like old trucks, don't we? Speed

Just a thought; I haven't done much research on the subject, but when Harley was playing the same kinda sh** as these fools are, didn't a bunch of employees rally their collective resources and buy it back from AMF? Also, when Triumph was down,I believe IT was bought and revived by private investors and employees. Maybe such a thing as this could be arranged for ,get it back in the hands of people who CARE about the Bulldog's health and happiness. Speed

Convert To Electronic Ignition
Speed replied to 609albert's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I haven't done a Mack, since my EH stock system works well, but I'm thinking it's pretty likely the distributor is made by one of about 3 companies-Motorcraft,Delco Remy,or Motorola,so the thing I'd do is Contact Jacobs Ignitions and see if they offer one for your distributor. If they don't list it,there'll probably be one for something else that uses the same points and cap-n-rotor that can be used. I imagine the rotation on the electronic units will be a factor,so that may figure into it. I know Jacobs has a pretty good rep for quality and being helpful at finding the right stuff. Speed -
En-401 & En-402
Speed replied to DMorgan's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Josh, what kind of mileage would you have expected with the other engine? Mine has a best of 7.1,flat towing my '62 Chevy one ton duallie loaded with spare parts, but that was relatively flat 4 lane, and I discovered later I was only going about 40 mph-my speedometer was waaaayyy off (Showed me averaging 55),and the noise in the cab, square tires, rattles and squeaks, gear noise etc. mis-led my senses at telling what I was really running at. I still seem to get quite a lot of driving out of a tank of gas though, even just moving stuff around locally . I pulled an old 40 foot fifth wheel RV trailer about 15 miles yesterday, and figured out if I can work up enough power,I should be able to run 60-65 mph, without crowding redline on the old beast. I was clocked by a friend on this job at 45 on flat ground,at 1800 rpm,so using that info, and my changing from 9.00-20's to 10.00R-20's when I get it back to town, should get me the 60-65. Re-sealing the Brownie and axle pinion yoke, filling the boxes with a little lighter oil,and fixing the brakes so I'm not fighting 2 dragging brakes will help a lot too. Speed -
Hi all; I'm going to be doing a few repairs on my 1945 EH. I'm getting things in order to replace the input and output seals on the brownie, the pinion seal on the axle and re-fill the axle with 90W (Not sure about the 20W50 synthetic for this application),and both transmissions with 20W50 synthetic but I can't find out what the fluid capacities are.(Not listed in my books.) My transmission is a TR-51,the Brownie is a 6031 and the axle is listed as an RA-36. The main box and axle numbers are what they are referred to in my build sheet. I could figure it from what I drain out, but: A-the axle and the Brownie are probably pretty low, since they both leak like sieves, and B-I want to know before I start draining boxes so I can figure out how much of everything I'll need to save up for. I'll also be doing some damage,I mean repairs to the rear brakes,so I'll probably need to find seals for the rear hubs too. once the brakes are working right,I'll put the radials on,and it should be about ready for work. Actually,it'll still need a wiper motor, but I might be able to set that up a little later. Can't really afford to do all this right now,but I'll need the truck for some jobs my other trucks can't do pretty soon,so I figure I'll have to do it eventually, and it'll be better to start off with things working right. Any info you guys might have would sure be a great help. Speed

And what's this I was hearing in the news about several other Countries, who have experience with, and are equipped to handle this kind of problem, offering to come in and deal with it,and the President say's "No,we have it covered."? Speed

HEY-we built my smallblock one ton with a hood, left front fender and left door from a '77 K-10! I used the bigblock truck a couple of weeks ago to flat tow a '66 Chevy half ton to Reno. All went well, except the one ton developed a vibration at 60 and over, and it seemed to get worse. While I was in Reno,I took the duals off and washed all the mud off them and the brake drums, and I thought that'd smooth things out. Loaded up the 292 and Posi rear end out of the '66 and hit the road for home. This time the vibration started at about 40,I tried to get past the shakes, and at 70 the mirrors un-adjusted and the doors started to rattle,so I backed out of it and found a tire shop. turns out the vibration that had haunted me for 300 miles was the left front tire separating. I pulled it and tossed it onto the deck, and moved the left outside dual up front, and down the road we go. (I'm sure glad I finally caught it-that tire wouldn't have made it another 10 miles.) Well, now I have the bad tire replaced and have all my wheels back where they go. (Had a hell of a time finding a decent used 9.50R-16.5,finally was given one by a friend.) Changed my mind about putting the 292 in the other one ton;I'm going to put it in the '57 GMC 2 ton instead. Quicker, cheaper and easier than rebuilding its stock 270,and it'll work better for my purposes. (About the same torque,a little more horsepower, substantially higher redline.) Took a load of metal to the scrapper today, hopefully tomorrow I'll make a dump run,put gas in the Chevy and the BroncWorth, take some gas and a fresh battery out to Ryndon, get the running, and move two trailers from Ryndon to White Rock (about 8 miles) where I'll be storing everything. I really want to get my parts car here next and get my '66 Catalina front group changed, install the gas tank, and take IT to White Rock, then bring the home so I can get it ready to work.(Rebuild at least the rear brakes, free up all the adjusters, replace the pinion seal and input/output seals on the Brownie, drain and re-fill both of the boxes with synthetic 50 weight, change the truck over to the 10.00R-20's,install a wiper motor or two, hopefully get another windshield in it,install the new mudflap hangers and old, worn out mudflaps, and MAYBE figure out an air system for the air horn and trailer brakes.) There's a load of other stuff it will need, but these things will make it a functional work truck. I'll have to make another YouTube video of my once it's working again,to send to the guy I bought it from. THAT'LL frost him! Speed

Trip Permits
Speed replied to hillconst1's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Providing that your truck is in good order and you don't have anything to hide,I'd consider it "good public relations" to hit the scales even if you don't technically have to,just to show you're not trying to sneak anything by them. After a few trips through,it'll get to where they kinda know you, recognize you as a straight shooter, maybe won't look at you as critically as other drivers. Personally,I'd prefer to make the cops at the scales friends rather than adversaries. Speed -
Trip Permits
Speed replied to hillconst1's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I've considered going with the Historic plates on my EH,but have concerns regarding the limits that they might impose,ie. miles per year, use of the truck to haul, legality in interstate driving. Whatever I do,I want to be able to use my truck to haul whatever I need to haul non-commercially,across state lines, and since I won't know how many miles I might need to cover,I don't want any limit on that. So far,I have a local insurance agent lined up who will insure the truck for about what I pay to insure my one ton duallie, but the only option I'm currently being given for the plates is Commercial plates,at approx. $420.00 per year, and that's EVERY year. Under these options, the Historical plates would be considerably cheaper, but also nearly useless for my purposes. Speed -
En-401 & En-402
Speed replied to DMorgan's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
And my EN354 has even less power. Fortunately, with its 6.86 axle,it pulls a load okay, unless I want to go over 35 mph. Speed -
That's a good lookin' truck! Saw your other post about the rear hub, hope you can find a replacement okay. If that doesn't pan out,you might be able to have the bearing race surfaces machined bigger and sleeved to fit the correct bearing races,or possibly find some bearing sets that are a bigger outside diameter and the same inside diameter. F Model Cab Jack Repair
Speed replied to itlldo1's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I'd also look at the bleed-down screw that you turn to let the cab back down; I found a chunk of crud keeping it from sealing on a hoist ram recently, effectively bypassing to where it wouldn't pick up weight, but would raise the arm empty. I took the screw out, used compressed air to blow the crap out of the valve seat, and smoothed the facing on the screw that touches the seat when the valve's closed a little with fine grit emery cloth. Works awesome now! Speed -
B Model Steering Wheel
Speed replied to Mike's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
LOL-I finally have my '79 Shovel just about rattle-proofed. The only things I can't seem to resolve are the "mustache bar" turn signal mount on the back and the front fender bolts, which I suspect are just a little too long and aren't getting completely tight. On my last Shovel I went through the whole bike and changed everything possible over to Ny-Lock nuts and Allen head bolts, and used blue Loctite on everything. Never had anything fall off after that, except the rear fender, which vibration cracked until, getting home from work one afternoon I found the last 12 inches of fender, turn signals and taillight dangling from their wiring. For the horn button issue, what worked for me was smashing the first couple of inches of the tube on a can of PB Blaster flat so it'd fit down the sides of the button, and spraying the hell out of the "under-button" area, getting the button and the palm of my hand really clean, pushing down as hard as I could on the horn button, turning counter-clockwise,and sort of rocking the button, also in a counter-wise rotation. It took a little time, but I finally saw it start creeping around, and it went easier as I turned it. (I was surprised it held so well, since the screws that held the retainer plate in were all stripped.) Hope other parts of your project go smoother than the horn button. Speed
