From the album: My 1945 EH
I've installed a Volt gauge on the other side of the steering column instead. I recently acquired a full set (with two spares) of 10.00R-20's,mounted on Daytons;just waiting on better weather and better health to get 'em on. That makes one less barrier to making this truck fully roadworthy. -

That probably depends on how many of your chosen people you can place on office around you,and how quickly... Speed -
Hi Thomas; First, welcome to the Forum! I'm afraid I can't offer much help on your search as my experience, limited as it may be,is basically related to my 1945 EH model. I'm relatively sure the Mack headlights from that era were pretty universal,so it should be possible to find what you need from any of the Mack trucks from the mid 20's up to the mid 30's. One thing that'll help more than anything else will be to post some good pictures so we can see what you're working with, and I'd recommend contacting the Mack Truck Museum with the serial number from your Mack, and ask for the information packet. A generous donation will help keep their assistance and their incredible knowledge of Mack trucks available to all the old Mack owners. Your truck was probably swapped to a duallie rear axle to increase the load capacity for the added on tank. Another possible resource for restoration instruction, information and parts might be the National Auto Museum,at 10 South Lake Street,Reno Nevada (don't know the Zip code for it,sorry),phone number's listed as (775)-333-9300. I hope this does you some good. Speed

I don't guess offering to teach her how to drive it is an option, huh? Maybe if she got to operate it a little she'd bond with it... Speed -
I'm Afraid My Ass Is Had:
Speed replied to Rob's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I used to tell my ex that trucks, cars and bikes was a lot better than booze, drugs and sleazy women as a hobby, and a lot less harmful, but if it bugged her that much,I could explore some of the other options;that usually settled her down pretty good. And NO-the hobbies had nothing to do with why she's my ex. Speed -
If you end up needing to prime it to start in cold times, you might try this. We used to use a mix of diesel fuel and ether;I did pretty good with a pint jug (plastic mustard bottle works well)with about half diesel and half ether. Be sure to swirl it a little to mix it up before you use it. I discovered it when my most stubborn generator (Witte two cylinder) wouldn't go and my only can of starting fluid didn't have any pressure to spray,so I poked a hole in it and poured it into my squirt can of priming fuel. Gives it that extra kick but also has the lubrication of diesel fuel to keep the cylinder walls from drying out. Speed

Unusual Old Mack
Speed replied to mackaholic's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Hi all; Sorry, don't know much if anything about this truck, but it sure looks a real lot like the dumps they used to build the dam down by Vegas. I've seen 'em in books and articles on the Hoover Dam project. It'd be a way cool project truck-hope you get it! Why anyone would build one rather than buying it is a good question-must be a particular combination of features the owner wanted that wasn't available at that time. Speed -

Tires And Or Rims
Speed replied to fireflem's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
First off-Bruce-Sorry for stealing your thread. A lot of times I don't think to ask about something until I see that topic come up in a forum, then I have to ask right then or I forget about it until I see it again. Hope your tire change over works without any trouble. Next-Thanks,guys,for all the excellent information. You guys ROCK!!! I was told by the owner the tires/wheels are mine when I need 'em,but I haven't been able to connect with him to go get 'em. Hopefully it won't be one of those deals that fades away from waiting too long. Speed -

Hi Packer; As they say on some of the other forums-a truck is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. I know that's useless, but really, about the only ways I know of to get a value would be : 1-Figure up a pre-agreed percentage of what your friend is into the truck so far, maybe 40% (He probably still has all the receipts) and go with that as a starting offer. That might be pretty low,in your friend's eyes, but it IS just a starting point. 2-Log on to "oldgmctrucks.com" and ask the old-timers there for opinions. (If you get the truck,it'd be a good idea to get on that forum anyway-really good people, lots of help/information there. Tell 'em Speed sent ya. 3-Contact ATHS (If there's not a link to it here, there's one on the GMC trucks forum) and see if they have a price guide that covers the bigger trucks 4-Offer your friend as much as you feel like you can afford to part with, and see if it's enough to do the deal. Personally,I always look for the "owners group" for whatever vehicle I'm getting-they already have a lot of knowledge about that model vehicle, and they know all the best places to get parts and information. I hope this'll help you,and if you can post some pics of it when you inquire about its value it'll be a lot easier for the folks to give you a reasonable value. And email ME some pics too!! BTW- The old COE's are kind of a "niche" type of truck-priceless to those who love 'em,but not worth much to most truck collecters because of the size and height. They usually won't fit in a garage, often too long to fit most parking spaces, not the easiest trucks to get in and out of,harder to work on,etc.;but they're so COOOLLLL!!! Good luck with it! Speed

Tires And Or Rims
Speed replied to fireflem's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Hey,Rob; While you're here,I might be able to get a full set of 11.00R-22.5's on Daytons free or very reasonable. Is it possible for me to use these rims and tires on my EH? I'm currently on 9.00-20's but they're badly weathered. My concerns are, will they work with my hubs, and if so,what can I do for spacers between the rear wheels to make everything fit? With my 20's I have about 4 inches between the sidewalls. Not trying to steal the thread, but reading this topic reminded me I have to get this figured out or lose my chance at the newer wheels. No problem,my friend. Glad you found what you need close to home. Probably saved you a stack-o-money in shipping! Speed

Welcome to the Forum!! The first thing you should do is contact the Museum, there's a link to it here, with your Serial number and whatever else you know about it,and ask them to send you whatever they can find regarding the build sheet etc. It'd also be good to send a donation to them if possible,as it does cost them to research your truck. You'll get a copy of your trucks build sheet,a page of specifications, some service info, and possibly a copy of the page with the signature of the original buyer. I haven't checked into it yet but I'm told they have a lot of service and maintenance information you can get copies of. These guys are awesome! Once you have that stuff in hand, the owners here on the Forum will gladly help you fill in the bare spots and answer questions. A good start on the Forums would be to send some pictures of your new old truck. Enjoy! Speed -
Hi Pete; I'm guessing you want the regulator too;when we re-wired my truck I was going to put the fuse panel in the regulator box,but that wasn't possible so I just removed it and installed my fuse panel where the regulator was. It's pretty large but,it turns out,not large enough. Let me know, then I'll see what the shipping will be to you. Speed

Actually, the T/A doesn't look too bad,but you need to keep in mind that for a limited edition car like this, anything you have to buy that's specific to this model is going to be either impossible to find or ungodly expensive . There's also the "cop magnet" issue to consider;even if you don't drive it like an idiot, the cops will always be watching for some reason to "check your papers". (Been there-done that) I've been pulled over in my old 1945 Mack by the cops, but it was only to tell me how cool it is,and ask questions about it;what's it like to drive, what size engine, how many speeds, does the air horn work, etc. You'll have little trouble finding parts for the Mack,if they're not available new, there's good used parts to be found and you have the help and support of some of the most knowlegeable Mack owners in the world here to help you with whatever use you decide on for it. We know you'll make the right choice. Post some more pics when you get it. Speed

Wasn't there a starring in a Stallone movie? "Over the Top",I think it was-the one where he arm wrestles and wins a new truck. Been a long time since I saw the movie, but I thought the truck he won was an R model,or maybe it was the one he was driving before he won... Speed

I bet that's the same guy who was selling the frame and drivetrain on Craigslist here. I think he only wanted $400.00 for it;I believe it was a Maxidyne, quad box,ten wheeler, still had the steering column and wheel, radiator etc. I posted to ask if the quad would work in my '45 EH,or if I could swap the whole engine/trans. in,and it was a no-go on both counts. I'm into scrapping, but I won't scrap useable vehicles or parts I know someone will use. The big exception is newer vehicles without titles,(and there's a LOT of 'em!)because it's getting almost impossible to get titles on later stuff, and it's damned hard to get titles for even the older vehicles. For a while a guy could get a title through places like titles.com,but I'm told that,in Reno and Vegas at least, Nevada DMV won't accept titles from certain states that are known to be states "questionable" title businesses get their titles from. I can see this is going to be a problem for me in the future, scrap one save one, scrap one, save two....I've also heard a rumor that in Reno, before a person can scrap a car,he has to buy a "release" from a licensed wrecking yard,or the scrap yard won't accept the car. That sounds pretty strange to me-I can't get myself to believe it. Damn-if Reno is as corrupt and screwed up as I'm hearing,I'm glad I left!! BTW-I hear the price of scrap is down about $60.00 a ton as of a couple of days ago;still a pretty good income if a guy does it right. Can't wait until the new scrap yard opens up here, about the end of August I'm told. Speed

I'm guessing it's one of those deals that's fun once or twice, but not something you'd wanna get locked into full time, huh? I imagine those recs car haulers have a pretty high stress job,but I could be wrong. Speed
