  1. I'm pretty sure I-78 in NJ had a Johnny's Truck stop. All I remember is that it was a "Mom-n-Pop" on the north side of the highway.
  2. Good Luck with the new Autocar. If it's in as good shape mechanically as it is cosmetically, you should be good for another 41 years. I'd seen that view out of the back window of the family car when I was a kid, and it still scares me to the point of soiling myself.
  3. I'll take a closer look this time.
  4. Yep, that's the place. It was a regular stop for the local cops, and not for the coffee.
  5. FOUL!! Rob has 2 rules on this forum: 1. No personal attacks 2. No premature ejac..uh..acknowledgement of birthdays. I might be mistaken about rule #2.
  6. That is pretty neat. My Dad used to fuel at the Jersey Truck Center (Rube's) in Kearney, NJ and there was always a few Vitalis' laying over there. I remember mostly KW's.
  7. Happy Birthday! Today is Al Gore's big day too. Is it warm in here? I didn't think so.
  8. Sorry about your water woes, but seeing that brisket somehow made it not seem so bad, for me at least.

    Good Day:

I always wake up early on those days so I can get it done and relax.
  10. Cheap buzz, no alcohol breath.
  11. Copy and paste the link in your reply and the video will appear.
  12. Thanks for posting that. Note the filler strip along the bottom of the cab. It's there to help conceal the gap between the tire and the raised cab.
  13. No Blue Laws on Long Island, everyday was beer-buying day. I'm pretty sure he went to Schmidts or Schlitz when he decided to go "top shelf" again.
  14. I remember Yellow's yard just south of there. I read recently about the change of ownership but don't know any details. I had forgotten about another visit to White's-New Years Eve 2001. The only time I was away from home for any major holiday and I decided I was not going to be driving at the stroke of midnight so I pulled into White's around 11:25. The cb was so busy that half the time all you heard was the sound of 2 or 3 drivers stepping on each other. At about 2 minutes to 12, A female in the parking lot pulled off her top and it was a few minutes into 2002 before anyone was able to regain their composure and acknowledge the New Year. I made a quick call home and hit the road again, regretting having stopped.
  15. Trans Am was the modernized logo for Transamerican Freight Lines.
  16. I couldn't find the spec sheet that mentioned the cab being raised 5" but it's possible that was only required for the 903 Cummins. I do remember that dual 5" stacks were standard with the 8V71. Who'da thunk those tote platforms weren't kosher.
  17. Just checked out the second video. Great Coastal's Freightliners were a common sight in the northeast as far back as I can remember. Stopped at White's a few times with my Dad in the late 70's and each time it was packed with "Handshakes" doing swaps.
  18. Quite a few that I've never seen before.
  19. The Roanoke shot is my favorite. Is that a Mack in the background? You and I seem to travel many of the same roads, but your probably sleeping like a normal person during the hours I come through.
  20. I liked that and how he would reverse direction on the course.
  21. "No Frills" was the name of PathMark's cheap brand. My uncle would come home and drink 3-4 beers after work during the week and "as much as it took" on the weekends. It seemed normal back then but today that would result in an intervention.
  22. Wasn't Piels around 99 cents for a 6-pack in tne early 70's? My Uncle used to drink that and switched to the PathMark "no name" brand or whatever they called it. Just a plain white can with "BEER" in bold black letters. He always knew the most cost efficient way to a buzz.
