  1. It's nice to see you were able to fullfill a childoood dream after waiting so many years. The truck looks good considering what it's been through.
  2. This looks like it was a beauty in it's day. You mentioned it may have a Scania engine. Could this be an R-400 tractor? It looks like the badge could have a 400 on it. I don't think I've ever seen one in tractor form.
  3. My Dad had a friend named Joe Weeks who owned a gas station on Wellwood Ave. We went to see him race at Islip a few times, I think he won some races in the early 70's. Was there a track in Manorville or thereabouts?
  4. Sounds tempting and I appreciate the offer, but I'm going to "fiddle-about" with my Uncle Ernie this weekend. I just wish I knew what that meant.
  5. Ahhhh, beauty and braun. The same way I like my women...... 215, I think my cousin's boyfriend's first car might have had that engine. I don't know how I remember this stuff, but the car was a '61 or '62 Buick Special with a "3 on the Tree". He had a "Hush Thrush" muffler and, like most cars back then, it sounded great. Would the 215 be from that era?
  6. Congrats on the new addition to the family. Is Steve short for Steven?
  7. Instead of a like, could you use a good nephew?
  8. We have at least one mechanic on duty 24/5. The main issue is there are drivers that either won't look at tire treads or bother to write anything up. If a trailer isn't red-tagged it could come in from a peddle run and be sent out on a linehaul run within an hour or two. In the particular situation I was in, I would've have been okay with running it to the Cumberland, MD terminal and tagging it there, but it was being relayed to a Richmond, VA driver who I know would have to cross a scale on I-81 below Winchester. I use to go through there quite a bit and they will do a DOT at 3am. I just don't have it in me to screw another driver like that. The company has stepped up maintenance since the new CSA scoring system began and all they ask is that you do a proper inspection and take the steps make sure equipment is roadworthy be taking it out on the road. That's asking too much of some, I guess. I read through the rant before posting but when I got to the end the only thought I had was mmmmm...member. I can only assume that I made my point with the rest of what I wrote.
  9. Consume Mass Quantities. Semi-mullets may have been common in 1988, but they were never okay. Would that be the shade of blue on the engine to the right in the photo? I've driven three from that era, but none were blue as they were Pedigreed rebuilds IIRC.
  10. Sorry Good to hear they're doing well. That makes me vomit happy.
  11. Never did the air/elec line thing. I reckon I'm due.
  12. Up until a month ago, If you hook a trailer with a flat/worn tire, you simply brought the trailer over the shop where the mechanic would stop what he was doing and get you up and running asap. This would typically take 15-20 minutes, add a few more if it were an inside tire. As a linehaul driver, I am not compensated for this time as I would be for a breakdown on the road. I didn't have a problem with this because at the end of the week, I feel I am well paid for what I do. In light of a few recent losses of wheels at highway speeds, the company decided to take a pro-active approach to resolving the problem. While our incidents have not resulted in any injuries or propery damage, we've all seen the destruction a wayward set of duals can cause, many times resulting in fatalities. The new procedure is this: when any trailer tire needs to be replaced (even if it's only an outside tire) both tires and the brake drum are to be removed and all areas around lug nuts where metal to metal contact is made are to be inspected and grinded clean. This process takes close to an hour. I want to make it clear that I am 100% in agreement with our safety department that this is a serious problem and I am proud to work for a company that will go to this extent to prevent it from happening. The very day after the meeting in which we were informed of the new procedure, I hooked a trailer that had 2 tires that had not been legal for at least a few weeks. Fortunately, they were next to each other because the replacement time would have been doubled as the entire process needs to be repeated for each side and axle. There has now been a rash of incidents where driver's are hooking trailers with tires that would have the equipment placed out of service if found by DOT. I had another such incident this past week which resulted in my neglecting to raise the landing gear before pulling a trailer ( I discuss this further in the stupid people=stupid mistake thread). My point: Don't allow youself to be angered to the point where you are distracted and more likely to make a possibly dangerous mistake just because you have a few co-workers that are just too fuckin' lazy to write up a repair and red-tag the equipment if neccessary. This concludes my rant and I will now return to being the cute, cuddly, intelligent, and humorous friend, forum member, and nephew that all of of you have come to love, hate, admire and respect.
  13. Like complacency, anger can also be a dangerous distraction. I made a rookie-truck-driving-101mistake this week which although very minor (tried to pull a trailer with landing gear down) I was pissed off and strayed from my set routine of hooking and pre-tripping a trailer. A worse scenario would have been neglecting to visually inspect the fifth wheel to see that the kingpin was secure, only to lose the trailer on an interstate and wipe out a school bus. It can happen just as easily. I'll start a thread titled "My company's new tire changing policy" which will explain my frustration.
  14. Get it off the paint! BTW, from what I can see, that MG is a beauty.
  15. Sorry I can't help you. I simply had the same reaction as the rest of the perverts on here.
  16. ROTFLMFAO. Rob, If Vinny is not living up to Ur expectations, I would like to volunteer my services as a nephew. I don't actually own a Mack, but I figured....since U have so many....and I......don't have any......maybe U could.......you know........ And while your at it, my camera is a Canon PowerShot SD 1200. Did ya see how I used U's in place of the word "you". C'mon, what d'ya say?
  17. There are clues in the pics as to the location. Search this address on the map site of your choice. I only looked at aerial views and could see the offset cabs. 44 Railroad Avenue, Albany, NY. I couldn't get the pic to transfer to here, but be sure to check out Google Street View, and have that rag handy to clean your screen.
  18. Glad you're okay were smart enough to prevent a bad situation from getting worse. You'll have to try harder than that if you really want to earn the "stupid" title.
  19. And in the "Old Sled" thread, he used the words "balls" and "blind" in consecutive senetences. It seems he's working on his innuendo, too.
  20. Yeah, but Rob doesn't.
  21. Well, that speaks volumes about the evolution of the American automobile since the mid-70's.
  22. Words cannot express how much that means to me.
  23. The content of this thread is inappropriate for a 12 year old to be reading. I'm sure Vinny can handle it, it's me I'm worried about. He's prolly in school right now but based on what I've seen of his school schedule so far, he should be off the rest of the week for Late Winter-Post St Patrick's Day-Pre Spring Recess. He'll have plenty of time to post the video then.
  24. That young man has proven that he is mature beyond his years so there's no need to protect him from the truth. What he's trying say Vinny is that when a boy and a girl love each other....uh....they buy a donkey and let it ride in the back seat.
  25. Maybe that's why ours lasted. We (almost) never went over 15k. I can't vouch for all the drivers, though
