  1. Happy Easter to all! Be safe if you're travelling.
  2. The mechanic where I used to work mounted an additional air brake knob assembly on the far right panel of the dashboard and covered the words "Parking Brake" with a piece of paper that said "Puff Limiter, in-on out-off". It was after I stopped driving that truck that I realized that was a bad idea and at least he should've known better.
  3. Pretty funny how the caption "He was ready with the hose" is next to the shot where he's holding a bottle of beer.
  4. Beautiful! With the Mercury sleeper and those chrome covers on the headlights it looks as if it arrived here via a time warp.
  5. Excellent story, thanks for sharing it! Driving a truck with a high torque rise engine back then must have been mind boggling for those who were experiencing it for the first time. I had the pleasure of driving Maxidyne/Maxitorque equipped trucks for 4 1/2 years at my previous job, 3 years in R models and 1 1/2 years in a CH. That drivetrain was and always will be in a class by itself.
  6. Great info here. Tires seem to be taken for granted by many as long as they are round and hold air. While I don't agree with every decision made by our maintenance dept, I give them credit for running 100% virgin rubber in all tire positions.
  7. Same engine. 237 was the peak hp @ 1700 rpm and 235 @ the governed speed of 2100 rpm. This is why you will also see both 283 and 285 hp ratings for the 676.
  8. Thanks for sharing your pics. I hope that R&L truck wreck was the one on I-70 at the PA/WV line and not a another accident that was just as bad.
  9. Freightliner built a tougher truck back then, IMO.
  10. The Chinese will copy anything, even stuff that doesn't exist. There are several Harry Potter books produced in China that were not written by JK Rowling, for example. Callaway Golf Clubs discovered their products were being counterfeited when customers tried to return what they thought were Callaway clubs that had failed. Sickening.
  11. A good GPS will immediately update the new location of the exit.
  12. Nope, I wasn't biting. I can just picture you alone and unsupervised with a 2-cycle DD. I think Dorothy stood a better chance with the Wicked Witch.
  13. One would think Eaton would go to great lengths to make it easy for customers to distinguish the "new and improved" models from the original. I'm curious what type of field testing Eaton did before deciding it was time to go public with the first UltraShifts.
  14. Seeing that dashboard in reverse is almost as unusual for me as seeing that dashboard with a real hood on the other side of the windshield. (translation for Tim: real bonnet on the other side of the windscreen).
  15. Yep, that was his baby.
  16. I tried the same thing yesterday, got the same results, and now I can't make it happen again. Adding BMT to "Favorites" is the way to go but it's a good thing this problem came to light.
  17. That's a sharp looking Vision but I have to warn you, you're up against some popular members on this site.
  18. Certainly a huge part of what Mack used to be. May he Rest in Peace.
  19. We're just having fun. Oh......those assholes......the one's in the video. Got it!
  20. I believe you are a Benefactor because of your lifetime membership and/or wiki contributions. I'm VIP because of my 1 year subscription. I think number of posts is also part of the equation. ws721's next level might be "Pedigreed Bulldog".
  21. http://www.bigmacktrucks.com/index.php?/topic/39264-id-my-beige-cummins-engine/#entry282794
  22. Ours did that too and I was told it was "normal".
  23. Okay, my meds finally kicked in. That is a very interesting video. I see it as a useful training tool as it clearly illustrates the importance of proper lubrication in an internal combustion engine. Thanks for sharing!
