  1. I HAVE A 76 MACK RL700L LOG TRUCK WITH A SMALL CAM CUMMINS ENGINE. IT HAS A DIFFERENT FRONT CROSS MEMBER/ENGINE MOUNT THAT BROKE IN TWO A FEW WEEKS AGO AND I HAVE SINCE TAKEN IT TO A SHOP TO HAVE THE REPAIRS DONE ONLY TO FIND THAT THEY WANT ABOUT SIX GRAND TO REPAIR IT. THIS CROSS MEMBER/ENGINE MOUNT IS "U" SHAPED AND IS ATTACHED WITH FOUR BOLTS ON EITHER END ABOUT A FOOT AND A HALF BACK FROM THE BUMPER. IT IS CAST AND I DONT KNOW BUT I WAS WONDERING IF ANY OTHER MACK OWNERS HAVE DONE THIS TYPE OF REPAIR ON THEIR OWN. I SURE AS HELL AM NOT GOING TO PAY SIX GRAND TO HAVE SOMEONE ELSE DO IT. PLEASE HELP!
  2. qeustion for lmackattack, does the foot valve have a cluster of what appears to be pressure switches on it ,with wires running to two posts on each one? i have these on mine and just re-installed them with the new e-6 valve. however, i have found that i dont have any brake lights when the spring brakes are released. if i set the spark brake i have brake lights when i apply the pedal and the trolley valve. have brand new seven wire to the rear from the fire wall and L.E.D. lights on the rear. also wierd is that i have brake lights with the trailer diconnected and the park brake released.
  3. same here just did the e-6 treadle valve and a new sr-1 spring brake valve . have front brakes and also new cams , bushings, slacks , drums and upgraded to the 4515 "q" style shoes front and back. i was told to get rid of all the old anti-lock system and go to a standard 121 without anti-lock. i geuss there is a service bulletin somewhere that states the eaton system can fail and youre without service brakes. the sr-1 has two or three pressures too that im told and if you get the wrong one for the e-6 it can create a lot of foot pressure. although im not sure that is the case with mine though. the dealership told me it should be a 55 psi sr-1 but i dont know how they figureed that one out. i looked for a tag on the old one but couldnt find one.
  4. i have an old eaton anti-lock brake system on my 76 RL700L and it seems to be messing with the brake application pressure.i dont know anything about these systems and am worried it could cause the service brakes to fail during use. i am noticing a hissing sound coming from the "box" on the left fame rail just ahead of the drivers. looks like an old style "brain" for the anti-lock but not sure. if anyone has had this issue please let me know and if so how hard it is to convert to an fmvss 121 air brake system
  5. if i use the same door panel that i have i cant use the new latch assembly? or i need everything new? there is several newer r cabs at the wrecking yard but they want to sell the entire door, not part them out. thats why i went with the mack stealership for the panel. but if so, is the panel different or just the parts? also was wondering about this heater core assembly. it sets sidways in the box and im having a time trying to get it in there. i even pulled the box out of the cab and removed the squirrell cage in order to get some more working room.however the tabs on the core channels wont fit past the tab in the upper side of the box. any suggestions?
  6. the pacific line up from the p-9's to the p-16's. solid trucks and screamin demon detroit power!
  7. o.k. i have what appears to be window somethings in long clear plastic bags from a mack dealership. i will post pics of them tomorrow as i will be replacing the heater core and trying to repair the window regulater ( till i hear back from watts on that subject ). on the sublect of window felts. can they be removed easily if i want to paint the doors in the future?
  8. was wondering if anyone has replaced the door window felts/trim that surrounds the side glass on an r-model mack. mine is a 1976 RL700L and the side glass fell into the door while hauling logs the other day and it needs new felts/trim and a new panel and regulater assembly.called watts and their not sure if regulater is right one.also not sure about felts/trim for side glass . anyone ever replaced this before?
  9. red dot also still makes a roof mount a/c unit although not sure of the size.
  10. cant wait till mine looks that way. course its hard to get very far while working the truck at the same time. beautiful job though, very well done.
  11. if any body knew better theyde understand that both sides sleep in the same bed. oboma and bush shared a hug at the whitehouse front steps at obamas entrance to this whole mess and if you look closely bush is talking into his ear. we got em good buddy and theyre all suckers! watch, for the next four years theyl fight cuss and divide housholds and well still own em. guess again. politics aint got nothin to do with it. thats why i like trucks. reliable, honest ,dependable. mack trucks.
  12. gold v-8 on the side of the hood so must be the 865 engine.not sure on the dump truck though.....
  13. i hope to hear from him this morning. kinda like a kid at christmas. cant sit still. driving my wife nuts waiting on the phonne this morning! would be a great way to occupy myself in my spare time if i get any.
  14. it already has the mack v-8 in it. would be great to get a v-12 detroit and throw in ther . go to youtube and look at"big james log truck" it has a v-12 as well. this one is a lowboy rig judging by the ramps on the tail. i have a 1972 peerless lowboy(fixed neck) that will go great with it along with a 1970 case 400 skid king log skidder that i'm going to restore as well and try to get done by february next year for the oregon loggers conference.
