Suppose it's been swapped, or has a cutoff on the rear? I can't see the front of the carrier in the pictures to see if it's a Mack rear.

Technically, I think they had their Chauffeur's licenses, as CDLs were not a thing yet.

As I remember reading about it, Claude actually took to it like a duck to a pond. Frank was from NYC and didn't even have a driver's license when they started the show. Both of them got their CDLs so they could drive the truck. They say it was easy for Claude, but it took Frank a little while to get the hang of it. That might have been from the Movin' On website, or one of the other places I have tracked down about that show. I think Mark Stracener still owns the "Real" one, having bought it from Paul Sagehorn, but things change all the time without us knowing about it.

The indicator thing works really well to check what you're getting. Once the lock nut is tightened, it removes all the "slop" from the threads on the adjusting nut. So, depending on the pitch line clearance of the adjusting nut and the spindle, the lock nut will remove a different amount of clearance. 1.5 flats might be good on some. Might need more or less on another. I like to check for clearance with an indicator after the lock nut is tightened. But, in all reality, as long as there is a little clearance there, it's probably not all that critical. If there is no clearance at all, well, that could cause some issues. Too much clearance...yeah that could cause problems too. But the sweet spot is fairly generous.

I have seen rear tandem axle used as a single. Main thing is getting all the mounting brackets right. For instance, using a rear drive axle off a camelback spring will need different brackets to attach to a single axle arch spring.

Love the old steel dash trucks! My favorite paint job has always been the yellow with black fenders.

I found the fuel pump section in my book. If I knew which pump you have, I’d be glad to post some pictures of the appropriate pages. APE. PSJ. PSM. CAV. there is a high speed adjustment screw on some of them.

I'm not your best resource! Lots more qualified guys on here. I do have a service manual around here that might have some procedures in it. I will look and see if I can find you some info.
