Freshly Painted DM690S
doubleclutchinweasel replied to usmcjimbo's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
Hey, jimbo. My R611 came from K-town. Know Walker's truck salvage? -
And let's do the obligatory pointing out of the "S" for tandem (all DM trucks were tandem, I believe), and "X" for heavy spec...just in case any newcomers are wondering... Glad these guys were able to help you out with the identification.

By the way, on one forum, the moderator said part of my post was "unnecessary". I wonder if he caught the irony that ALL of his comments were "unnecessary"? -
Hmmm....interesting!

The owner mentioned the wheels, too. He wanted something classier, but there are not too many choices in that hole pattern. -

Some of our guys badmouth other brands. Not me! Like one of the guys said earlier this month, "Old iron is old iron." -

Worst one I ever saw was a beautiful B cab on a Dodge/Cummins chassis with an automatic transmission & 2 fake wooden shifters sticking out of a console. I never liked truck cabs on pickup chassis. Sorry. No offense to anyone with one. But, to me, half the fun is having real truck engine, transmission, etc... However, I always wanted to put a Mack Jr (Reo) body on a 12-valve Dodge/Cummins chassis. That would let it make the right sound when you fired it up! Thoughts? Comments? Anybody else want to make a speech? -

The 2 most asinine responses to a post, & my thoughts on each... 1. "I never had any problem with MINE." Well, ain't it effin' wonderful to be you! Why the hell didn't you just say NOTHING instead of wasting everyone's time who read your "response". 2. "Why do you wanaa do that?" Or "You shouldn't do that." Because it's MINE. When you start paying the bills, you can have an opinion about what I'm doing! Guys on here might warn you that what you're about to do may not be the best idea, but then they'll try to answer your question. Maybe driving a Mack beats you up so bad that don't have strength to be so damned belligerent! -

Biggest problem is that they don't make enough variety in the 1/25 scale high detail series. I am tickled to death that they had the B61. I want an R! But, until someone orders enough to make it worthwhile for them to buy the tooling, I'm just SOL. Custom paint, however, can be had fairly easily on an existing model. Maybe we could have a custom series of BMT trucks done? They have 1/34 B models in both single axle & tandem. And, the 1/34 R is an R611 (or 609), steel dash. Hmmm, I have one of those! They have a ton of variety in 1/34. Dumps, loyboys, dump trailers, mixers, etc... Any ideas? -
Thought those mountains looked kinda Southern Cal-ish! I remember that 1 or 2 of the Smokey and the Bandit trucks used the V8 Cummins, and one used the inline 6 Cummins. Didn't Movin' On use a V8 Cummins in at least one of their trucks as well???

Then had no air going down the grade, but the spring brakes were still released. Then, when he got to the bottom, he had air again!

Yep! Whether "rheumatis medicine" or "snake bite medicine", liquid corn is the way to go! Can I tell 'em Dr. 57 prescribed it?

Okay! That helps a bunch. I KNEW there was some kind of dual turbo model, but wasn't sure which one. Mega thanks for that bit of info, 'daddy!

I remember one from the Atlanta area. And seems like one from Charlotte. Remember the pilot episode, In Tandem? That was filmed somewhere in some pretty rugged mountainous terrain way out west.

Thanks, Bob.

Like the man said, the model number will tell you what engine the truck came with. And, the ID number on the engine is pretty much foolproof. I've got all the model number vs. engine number stuff around here somewhere. I just can't seem to remember where it is. IF I RECALL CORRECTLY, 864 was non-turbo (as in END-864). 865 was single turbo Maxidyne. Wasn't the 866 dual turbo??? Maybe not... Sorry if I'm incorrect. The drugs are still messin' with the Weasel! A couple of images to ponder (hope they are legible)...

Uhhh...a lot! Had to buy some different ones just to get the trailers in that picture. The Macks all came with 2-axle trailers, & I wanted tri-axles. The dozers are serious bucks, though! The 1/34 scale stuff is much less expensive, but not as cool as the 1/25 "high detail" series. Now, if they would do some 1/25 high detail R-models, I'd be in hog heaven! -
There are a couple of different ways to use them. First, you can "grub" with them. This is where you actually put the cutting edge of the blade below the surface of the ground. You then basically "plow" the ground...trees & all. Some people call this a "Rome plow" due to this characteristic. This is usually done on hiway or gas line right of way...where you don't want to leave the stump. Or, you can sharpen the hell out of it, & run it flush with the ground and "cut" with it. This shears the trees off, & leaves the stump. This is generally done on power line and reservoir jobs, where the stump doesn't matter. The "buster" (or splitter or stinger) on the lh side is to split the tree if it's too big to shear in one pass.
