freightrain,I don't know how old you are,but if Grayhair is reading this he is old enough to answer this question.in the 70's there was coast to coast team operation(probably reefer) running tag axle gas jobs Ford or Chevy ,with box sleepers.At 100k their mechanics would install a new "long block"engine.That was all you could get out of a gas engine with the lubricants of the day.Did the swap in a couple of hrs.Other than the atrocious mileage a gas engine got,the benefits were many!Low initial cost, light weight,with the 73280gross limit,low cost of parts etc. Does anyone remember what this company was called?
