  1. After I started putting some miles on my truck it ate up the pencil gear. Next one lasted even shorter. Pulling the tailhousing isn't a big deal(once you've done it a few times LOL). My drive gear had some chips in it and likely why it ate up the pencil gear. I just had it apart again this winter as the seal started to drip on the yoke. Once you get the hang of getting the cotter pin out of the 2 1/4" castle nut on in the yoke, then get the nut off, it is downhill from there. Blasted and painted again:
  2. I'm just a BIG car guy. The '64 just grew on me after I bought the wagon in 1992 from the original owners sister. The black car has a 390 in it. Actually came from a '68 Galaxie, 2dr. Motor is still standard bore, all original cast pistons!! I put a mild cam in it that I had laying around. It was a real budget bomber project.
  3. Who puts a boat anchor 429 in a Galaxie?? Seems an FE does a really nice job. I'm a bit fond of the Galaxies, I have two myself.
  4. Sounds like the pencil gear in the trans bushing is lobbed out(not square anymore). I had a couple of those gears, but they got stripped out about 10 yrs ago. I kept trying to keep mine working, but I worked with Rob and I put an electronic speedo in it. Today you can get GPS stuff, but back then I machined the parts and Rob did the electrical testing. It has worked flawless for years. That bushing unscrews from the transmission, like mentioned, it holds the gear inside the transmission that rides on the gear on the output shaft.
  5. They were told to get the passenger off the plane. Simple as that. A person, somewhere in charge, told them to do this. Being police, you do what they ask or you get treated like a felon. Resisting arrest. The good doctor told them what he was expecting and he got it. Simple as that. Well, sorry to say, like Rowdy's comment earlier, you both would have been in the same predicament. Beaten and dragged off. No ego in the world is stronger then a handful of big guys and handcuffs. Sorry, this is my opinion on the matter. I am not condoning what happened, but just understand why. Should something be done? Abso-damn-lutely. They have rules written to help THEM, not us.
  6. The video clip I watched had the good Doctor spouting off about "you are going to have to take me to jail", and something along the lines of beat me to take me. Ya, he was not a willing passenger to follow the orders of the police. The police were doing THEIR job. He was resisting, he got what he was asking for. In all my years, I've never seen ONE person that ever walked away from a situation like this. It always ends up bad no matter how big of an attitude you have. Three other passengers all got up and walked off without incident. Barring his doctor credentials, he could have dealt with the situation better. The old "he's a doctor, he has patients to see" is crap. Just watch the news and see how many flights get cancelled due to weather or what not. He is not the first person in the world that would have had to change his plans. Put your big boy pants on and deal with it like an adult.
  7. I bet MANY more people read all the fine print before buying a plane ticket? It's a legal contract, so if you don't like it, ride the bus.
  8. https://ashtabula.craigslist.org/cto/6079637671.html 1988 MACK TRUCK - $22000Clean and well maintained for the past 30 years plus by the same owner.Call me for details if you are truly interested. VIN: 1M2AY09C8JM003034CASH ONLY, PICKUP ONLY. Something I found surfing the net...........
  9. Only thing that concerns me..............is do they really think those little bails of straw are going to stop a lawn mower going 30-40 mph? Looks like a lot of fun though. I used to watch that lawn mower racing when it was on TV a few years ago. How those guys didn't kill themselves I don't know?
  10. If I had to put up with the general public everyday, I'd be pissed too!!! No matter how tired, upset, bad day I've had, I get on my plane and say "Hello" and "thank you" when I leave. Never had any bad situations(as of yet). Act stupid, get stupid prizes.
  11. After doing some reading, it seems that "IF" he would have just gotten off and talked he could have discussed the situation, gotten another flight, and been home without any incident. Guess he chose what's behind curtain #2?
  12. I read something on FB that actually United was not the actual people that got the guy off the plane. He apparently also ran off and back on again and it was the Airport Police that actually restrained him. There seems to be a real big back story to this that the news media is not showing(well, duh). Like typical, if you just act civilized, discuss the situation, you can most likely not make the evening news. Kicking and screaming is not a rational response for an adult.
  13. Wow. Ya, United has got themselves in a real pickle now! Imagine the line at the counter now when they announce they are overbooked and need a couple "volunteers"....LOL!!!
  14. Is there any "un-worn out" transmissions left in a B model? LOL!!!! My clunks at idle pretty bad. I pulled one shim out of the rear bearing years ago and that did help just a touch, but that was 15 yrs ago.
  15. I bought a head gasket kit from Ebay when I was working on my 237 and it had all the little gaskets you need for intake/exhaust.
  16. Well max torque is only when at WOT at 1100 rpm. So if you aren't at WOT, you aren't giving it full torque output. So, I suppose driving it easy, even at low rpm isn't bad. I've let mine drop down low before and I know the sound of "it don't like it" so if I want to actually accelerate I downshift a gear.
  17. I too heard horror stories of running a 237 with anything but a 5spd. I was very pleasantly surprised how well mine runs with my triplex. I don't split the lower gears(1-2-3), but split 4 and 5 and it pulls right up to 2100 nicely. Having the ability to drop just one gear on a grade really helps it from lugging and banging on that little single countershaft. I keep it above 1500 rpm for the most part.
  18. I was really surprised when I fired up the 237 and the oil from the rocker tips was marginal and hardly any. I was told it would build up over time(rpm) and be fine. I haven't had the covers off, yet since last spring. 5000 miles and no problems. I think it is set up for very minimal oiling at idle.
  19. Welcome to the forums. Cut out the bad, replace with new. Cardboard makes great templates. I too would not undercoat. Use good paint and be done with it.
  20. You can get reman lift pump from Mack. I just put one on my 237 last summer. Not cheap, but mine was on the weak side. The primer pump is just plastic buttons(check valves) and sometimes you might just be able to take it apart and clean it and make it work again. I've done that in the past. Just unscrew the plunger part from the lift pump.
  21. Pretty sure my flaps were hanging on the inside of the fender, not the outside. Some stainless carriage bolts would make it look okay. Just need some material. Heck, even a nice piece of stainless steel formed to the fender hanging down would do okay? If you could roll a lip on the top and then bolt it to the bottom of the fender lip? Kinda like a cab extension panel.
  22. My fender has the holes. The old flaps are long gone. Guess I need to make something up myself. Hmmmm.
  23. Well, its DONE!! Still have to get the battery box mounted and wiring put back on it so everything else works. Plus I have a dual pressure gauge coming next week to monitor the air start tank separately.
  24. Ok, what are you guys using? I've seen some nice MACK versions that look to fit properly. I haven't found anything, even at Watts store. I want to try to save my new aluminum tanks from destruction from rocks.
  25. Nice work. Strange the sheetmetal looks pretty nice, as those trucks would rot to pieces like any of the trucks of that vintage. Heck even a 5 yr old pickups I see with fenders rotted off, wheel lips hanging, etc. Do those people even wash their vehicles, ever? I would guess it has a Gear Vendor OD unit?
