  2. I know a young family that bought a house in town, then some how some "lost" paperwork came to be that it was "in a flood plain" and their insurance was STUPID. So much they couldn't even afford to live there. Seems someone, somewhere lost the paper and they bought the house unknowing. After a long fight they were bought out and they moved to another location. That area hadn't seen any kind of water in more then the 50 yrs I've been around. Didn't matter, there was a natural waterway under that area and that is what they use to determine the flood plain. It was beyond crazy, like $1000/month for insurance. Have a friend that bought a nice house, went to put up a large garage in the back yard. While the holes were being dug a gas company truck just happen to pass. He quickly stopped and pulled in and told them they better not build that garage. Seems again, somebody, somewhere along the line lost the gas easement paperwork. Seems they had a 24" high pressure line running directly under their backyard. Oops. As they say..."that's when the fight started". He is quite upset to not be able to do anything in his backyard.

  4. Welcome to the forums. Pretty solid looking truck for a Michigan unit. Nice friend! You can send/email your VIN to the Mack museum and they will make up a package for you that will include the build sheet and even a manual among other trinkets. A donation is always a good thing after you receive your information. Might take a few weeks or so to get it. I'm guessing it has a 237/5spd in it? I'm not good with motor numbers, but looking at the air cleaner that is my guess.
  5. A single axle box truck with a pintle hitch(or ball) would/could be a handful if the weight is improperly set on the trailer. Just like a pickup with a heavy trailer. A single axle tractor isn't very heavy on the rear by itself, maybe 4-5K lbs at the most. That gives you 18K more to put on that axle itself. A 45ft trailer, even with two trucks isn't putting 18K on the tractor. Two trucks might be 20-sumthin thousand pounds. Split that between the trailer and truck and that is only 10K sum pounds on the rear axle of the truck. Since the weight of the trailer is directly OVER the axle, there is no squirm like a ball hitch.
  6. I see both sides of this. Yes, help when you can SAFELY do it. Then there is the other group that just dives in head first and creates more disasters. You see it all the time where the rescuer is needing rescued because "they" took it upon themselves to do more then they could handle. Yes, driving around in a boat is not a huge deal. But there are always circumstances that can arise. You have to be smart about it. With the "sue happy" world we live in you have to think before you jump.
  7. I contacted a local turbo shop. They can take care of it. Going to try to get it dropped off Friday afternoon and see what they think. They say 3-5 days if all goes well. Not sure if I will have them do it now or wait til after Sept 10-11 as I need the truck that weekend and can't be stuck waiting. I'm going to pull covers off the pump and see if anything looks out of place.
  8. Well got it off tonight. Bearings smooth but there is signs of oil on the pressure side(like I saw at show). Not sure if that is the issue? Both wheels look fine, no damage. I think the exhaust side might have looked uglier when I first took it off but with some miles it cleaned up the rust/crud. If there where issues with the pump not getting full throttle that would knock some boost also. I know it hasn't changed externally but wonder if something went wrong inside.

What is the proper part number for a 237 turbo? For $500 I'd just buy a new one. My concern is the downpipe set up on mine being a firetruck engine. Not sure how universal things are. Have to look at mine when I get it unbolted.   11. Strange, when that superliner came in I did notice the temps get a bit warmer(if that was possible). I've had my eyes on a set of stainless mirrors/brackets, but even with the generous discount I just couldn't justify them for a crusty ol truck right now. Interesting how other peoples pictures remove about 20# of rust of any vehicle I own? Way back after I bought the truck and took it to a diesel club function a fellow actual photographed it and then photoshopped all the rust off it. Looked pretty good LOL!
  12. Great show Barry. I did have a bit of a DOH moment. About 4:30ish. Ya, when I realized everyone was about gone..............I realized that I never got back up to the Watts tent to spend my certificate. Ugh. Too much talking going on. Just about typical for me at any event(show or racing for that matter). Didn't get any pictures either. Ugh. See a pattern growing? Did meet Bob and Jim. Met the Jumper clan(minus Ben because it seems girls hang out at the fair more then truck shows). Glad I made it over.
  13. Seems I remember something about that Trent. I'm going to get it pulled off this weekend and take a look. Might try to find a used/new/takeoff(something cheap?). Mine was packed full of wasp nests when I got it. I cleaned it up and it spun fine. Seems something "let go" on the trip. It definitely lost some "umph".

  15. With a simple rebuild/change I could get 20# of boost(high side of spec) what a real eye opener it would be. Just with a couple pounds lost I feel the difference. I can't imagine adding 5#. Wow. Ya, it's fun to make hot rods, but I agree....what cost. I don't want to have to fix it if it breaks. Better to leave well enough alone.

Mine has different piping. I'd just get another stock version to eliminate that hassle of changing things over. I just want it to work. Had thoughts of just getting mine reworked(if possible).
  17. All summer it ran 15#, now suddenly not. Don't think weather has anything to do with it.
  18. First thing I looked at was throttle. Might put gauge on it. I know my pyro was still getting up there so I was thinking it wasn't fuel related.
  19. I will be pulling things apart this week to investigate. Ken, there did not seem to be any more oil on the outside of the turbo like we saw at the show. I know the shaft was tight before running it. Could be showing age issues from sitting.
  20. No visual leaks or whistle. Was always a solid 15. Then i chech it and it was at 13#. Like I said when I had turbo off it looked "rough" but happy when it was 15#. I think I am in the market for new/rebuild. Weather has been the same all summer....HOT. Should only get better in cool weather. I figure under 1000* is more then safe on pyro. I was curious how the change in fuel affected it. I'm sure the factory sets it at a very safe level.
  21. Ok, took the trip over to Watts show yesterday. Truck ran fine overall. With the little adjustment to the pump I noticed a slight increase in pyro(like 50-75*) on a pull along with slight temp increase of about 5-10*(goes to about 185* now). About the time I was getting off the PA pike I noticed a slight drop in boost. I was getting 15 lbs steady, but now it only goes 12-13 lbs and that's all. I can feel power difference even with just the slight drop. Just not like it was. I was concerned but got to Watts without any problem. While at the show I poked around under the hood to see if I could see anything wrong. Nope, all seems fine. I made the trip home with no problem, just still a couple pounds down on boost. It still gets pyro up to 950-1000* and temps goes to 185* so it is getting fuel(no clogged filters that I know of). No excessive smoke(clogged air filter). I think the old turbo is just giving up the ghost. It looked a bit rough around the edges on the vanes when I had it off removing heads last winter. I think the bit of extra heat just worked too hard on the vanes and thus taking boost out of it. Might need to upgrade this winter? Thoughts?

  24. They do, that is until I leave the truck outside one night and have to fire it up at 6am with that air starter(with no muffler). Doh!
