  1. Ya, looks like I missed some really cool stuff this year. Ugh. To think I drove 3 hrs in a snow storm to go racing in PA?? What is wrong with me?? Though the actual race on Sat was 60* and sunny.
  2. I'm heading to PA too!! That is always a great time at Lakeside. Got to run a few pieces of equipment a few years ago. Like that Euclid dump in the upper corner of the flier. Really cool!
  3. Ya, that is what I'm trying to avoid. Thanks for looking. I've got Adelman's in my back yard, but they too want maximum pricing for everything. Found a 100 gal tank on craigslist for "barter" OBO. no straps or anything. Didn't look destroyed. I could cut it in half and make my two tanks.
  4. Staying at track. It is the 3rd annual FE Reunion. All Ford, all FE powered! We have Hubert Platt, Bruce Larson and a few others coming again. Check beavers website for schedule if interested. The ol Mack ain't hard to spot in the pits.
  5. What did you have done to the pump and cost??
  6. Bling........................I think it looks awesome!
  7. Just poked around on Aumintank. They have a really nice 24" round x 31" long Mack tank with built in steps for $940. Yowza. Pretty lookin' for sure!
  8. Ok, thanks Jim. Guess I need to start looking around.
  9. I need them to be no longer then a square 40 gal tank(have to measure it). Talking with my buddy, I think I might look into buying a big late model tank and cut it and make two small tanks with a couple new bell ends welded on and make the small step for them. Then I can buy the matching mounts for them. What is the typical diameter of these tanks? Are they the same as a newer tank? Within reason? BTW, I found my leak Saturday. When I had it off last week it wouldn't leak with just a few gallons in it. Now that it had 20 sum gallons, it makes it leak. The pin hole is in the front corner, just behind the bracket. I don't want to mess with it as I want to make PA this weekend. If I dig into it I'm afraid I might make it worse and no time to tear it off and weld it. Now it is just a damp spot that hardly even puts a drip out. Had a small bucket under it all winter and it barely put 1/8" in it. Hobert62, I'm going to be in Beaver Springs PA on Thurs-Sunday this week for a race. Just over the hill from you according to google maps.
  10. Was almost waiting to see this: Then realized it said Forck.......................(not spork)..................lol
  11. Yes, it is 70's literature.
  12. Well, I did it. Yesterday I charged the a/c. I pulled it down for about 45 minutes and then put a spot of dye in the line and hooked up my tank of 134a. It WORKS!! Pretty chilly actually. It was only about 60 degrees in the cab to start with, I got it down to 48* with the air running. I'll be curious to see how it handles 90* sun and running down the highway. I'm thinking I need to seal the doors up a bit. Question: Can I use R model door rubbers in a B model groove? Mine are shot and dried and missing, etc. Likely why the doors are drafty doing down the road. My low buck sniffer also showed up, so I can check if I do have leaks. Got it from Amazon for $20, the feedback was pretty good on it. Going to play with it on my pickup and see why it leaks down within a few weeks. Little bit of rewiring had to be down on a/c. I had the fan for the condensor wired to come on with unit. Well, what I found out was it only came on with the compressor. It cycled on/off and would not cool it much. I had to pull another wire back through the loom I installed, dismantle the a/c unit and find the power wire going to the thermo switch for compressor. Hooked to the hot side inside of switched side. Now fan comes on and stays on as long as the unit is "on"(any fan speed). They don't really give you any insight in the instructions for wiring and it would be nice if they had a lead out with the rest of the wiring to just hook to. They give you a fan and no place to wire it correctly(unlike how I had it the first time). Guess I'm asking too much?
  13. We have a local chapter member with a Freightliner powered with a Big Al. It used to be the truck Johnson stood next to in the picture in the front of WOT.
  14. I suppose the grease will loosen up and flow around once warmed, but why? I do mine like above. Enough to pack the bearings, then a bit more mushed around as I install it. Granted I don't run heavy or fast so it hasn't been an issue. I have the bigger axle, wonder if it changes anything on the specs?
  15. I always just did it like a car, snug and spin the hub. Find the spot where the lock bolt goes in and its good. Haven't had an issue. I have the off road repair manual, and likely has the "How to" but never looked.
  16. Just happen to have a buddy stop over this past weekend and he told me he had a sniffer somewhere. Might have to have him dig it up? I think I will just charge it up this weekend(if I have time) and see how it holds. Might put a can of dye in it just as a "Might help" kinda thing.
  17. Been an hour west and I coulda hooked you up with some dinner! I always say.....breaking down is always better when you are near someplace. Out in BFE really sucks.
  18. Ok, I thought that is what you did. For $100 you can't come close to making it new.
  19. I suppose I could just buy std round tanks to fit and put some recessed B model steps in the side? I had thoughts of putting some old school round tanks back behind the bunk and make steps(battery box and storage) under the cab. But, I like the "open frame" look I have now and don't want to bulk it up with tanks.
  20. Same weekend as our local truck show. http://www.ohvintrkjam.com/ So if you can't make the run to Mudcungie, stop in Ashland, Ohio. Some day, some way I'll make it to Macungie.
  21. My guess is they want Zinc coating so that the basic body(hub) of the rotor does not rust and look "bad" through the wheels. The friction surface would never rust anyway from use. But the Hub area would unless they powder coat it or at least paint it. I think they just didn't describe it well enough. It is about the sponsors and the parts that are given to them. Lucky for me I don't have any access to these shows anymore. What I have watched lately is Roadkill on Youtube. Frieberger and Finnigan run around on a whim and it is entertaining. Basically just hard core hot rodders having fun at any expense. Finnigan classic line: "best day at work, ever".
  22. I would assume MAX recirculates. That is why it cools it faster then bringing fresh warm air in.
  23. No biggie Mike. Just another "bucket list" kinda thing.
  24. I don't do aluminum. I leave that to my buddy. Between him and another fellow I do work for I have two shops that can roll the alum and get the end bells. If my buddy does the welding, the tanks will be PERFECT. No distortion, no chunky welds, and likely no leaks. He is an anal perfectionist...........and drives me nuts sometimes. If you tack the end bell on enough before doing a full weld, it should not distort. BTW, I pulled the drivers tank off today(after pumping the fuel into the passenger tank--lucky both were about 1/2 full, so it fit). I removed the tank and cleaned up the fuel that was all around the front bracket. The tank had a few gallons left, so I left it sitting in the driveway for an hour or so to see where the leak was. Never leaked. Nadda, nothing. Hmmm, I think, maybe what the deal was when I replumbed the fuel lines when I moved the fuel filter I must pulled the old line through and sloshed fuel all over and it ran down and made it look like the tank was leaking. No other explanation. I put it all back together and let the fuel drain back from the passenger tank. I'll check it in a few days and see. It never really leaked much all winter sitting in the garage. I'm thinking less then half a dixie cup full?
  25. I didn't really inspect those, I kinda just gave up on it, put the truck away and hopped on the motorcycle LOL!! I'll make sure my gauges are okay, the fittings/schraders are tight. It has to be something stupid. It takes about an hour for it to start showing a real change in the needle. I thought maybe I'll just put a can of leak detector and just charge it up and see how it works. At this time I just want to see it work. Maybe it will hold a charge?
