I've got pictures of a yellow version of that red COE. Need to dig into a WOT Showtime to see what the model designation is. 97-06-03.bmp

My B model has enough gear for 85 mph. Only way it will get there is off a cliff I have had it near 80 bobtail once.......on a few miles of level ground. Any kind of grade and it slows it right back down.

WANT TO BUY B model round alum fuel tanks
Freightrain replied to Freightrain's topic in Parts Wanted
FYI, Adelmans has alum tanks for $2/gal. About $50 for brackets each side. Found some Sterling tanks, 70 gal that will likely be the candidates for shortening. Nice looking tanks from some very recent additions to the yard. Hobert, they appear to be the same as your picture? Much better priced though!!! I'll have less then $400 in both tanks and mounts. The owner of the towing company that owned my B has been working over in truck sales for a few years(since he sold the towing business). I went over and spoke to him(been a few years since I saw him). Showed him pictures of the truck and what all I've done. He was tickled and is going to make sure I get a better deal on the tanks/straps. -
Front brake shoes

Typically on a car, I put the nut back on the spindle, hang the drum/hub over it and give it a yank. It usually pops seal/bearing out. I've replaced mine before, had to put a speedi sleeve on a couple years back due to a leak that appeared after 11 yrs from the last time it was apart. A brass dift/punch down onto the inner race will also knock seal/bearing out in one shot. If you can't find numbers, some basic dimensions will get you in the right direction at a bearing/seal place. $50/side isn't bad at all. Mine is far from needing it, but glad to hear it is relatively inexpensive. -
Looks like a MB Mack cab with a Binder grille? Or is it just me? Kinda resembles the dual engine Diamond T with that nose sticking out.

Hey, we can get people to PAY $2-4 for a little bottle of water. Why not air guitar string? Granted my g/f will buy water to bring to the races, but at home I have my trusty milk jug full of water in the fridge that I use. I did spend a couple bucks last week to get some distilled water to put in the race car. Too cold to run the dehumidifier yet, so I just bought some. Beyond that, I won't buy water!! It comes outta the ground for FREE in my yard.

A/C in a B model

Well the first road trip of the year is in the books. Drove to PA in a freak'n snow storm!!! Why? Cause I'm a dumb drag racer LOL!! Even with drafty doors, my heater works really well and on LO it kept the cab comfy even though I could feel a cold draft coming from the door seam along the back. The air steering works nice. Didn't need to turn it off on the highway. It steered fine, tracks nice. Only issue was the construction zone(of many in PA), when they groove the pavement it gets to feeling squirelly a bit. Not unsafe or uncontrollable, but weird feeling. I did try the a/c on the way home Sunday morning. About noon it was around 60 or so and I could feel the heat in the cab so I turned the unit on. It quickly had it snowing inside LOL!! I think it will work fine on a real hot day. I was worried about heat soaking through the firewall, but the unit draws air from the back(which is right on the firewall), so I think it will cool things no matter what. Likely way more then the g/f will put up with. She wears coats nearly all summer long. Anyhooo, just wanted to update and let everyone know all the winter projects seem to be working okay so far. Now to get on that leaky fuel tank. I put a dab of Seals All on it and seems to be holding for now. -
Ya, looks like I missed some really cool stuff this year. Ugh. To think I drove 3 hrs in a snow storm to go racing in PA?? What is wrong with me?? Though the actual race on Sat was 60* and sunny.

I'm heading to PA too!! That is always a great time at Lakeside. Got to run a few pieces of equipment a few years ago. Like that Euclid dump in the upper corner of the flier. Really cool!

WANT TO BUY B model round alum fuel tanks

Ya, that is what I'm trying to avoid. Thanks for looking. I've got Adelman's in my back yard, but they too want maximum pricing for everything. Found a 100 gal tank on craigslist for "barter" OBO. no straps or anything. Didn't look destroyed. I could cut it in half and make my two tanks. -

I need them to be no longer then a square 40 gal tank(have to measure it). Talking with my buddy, I think I might look into buying a big late model tank and cut it and make two small tanks with a couple new bell ends welded on and make the small step for them. Then I can buy the matching mounts for them. What is the typical diameter of these tanks? Are they the same as a newer tank? Within reason? BTW, I found my leak Saturday. When I had it off last week it wouldn't leak with just a few gallons in it. Now that it had 20 sum gallons, it makes it leak. The pin hole is in the front corner, just behind the bracket. I don't want to mess with it as I want to make PA this weekend. If I dig into it I'm afraid I might make it worse and no time to tear it off and weld it. Now it is just a damp spot that hardly even puts a drip out. Had a small bucket under it all winter and it barely put 1/8" in it. Hobert62, I'm going to be in Beaver Springs PA on Thurs-Sunday this week for a race. Just over the hill from you according to google maps. -

A/C in a B model
Freightrain replied to Freightrain's topic in Exterior, Cab, Accessories and Detailing
Well, I did it. Yesterday I charged the a/c. I pulled it down for about 45 minutes and then put a spot of dye in the line and hooked up my tank of 134a. It WORKS!! Pretty chilly actually. It was only about 60 degrees in the cab to start with, I got it down to 48* with the air running. I'll be curious to see how it handles 90* sun and running down the highway. I'm thinking I need to seal the doors up a bit. Question: Can I use R model door rubbers in a B model groove? Mine are shot and dried and missing, etc. Likely why the doors are drafty doing down the road. My low buck sniffer also showed up, so I can check if I do have leaks. Got it from Amazon for $20, the feedback was pretty good on it. Going to play with it on my pickup and see why it leaks down within a few weeks. Little bit of rewiring had to be down on a/c. I had the fan for the condensor wired to come on with unit. Well, what I found out was it only came on with the compressor. It cycled on/off and would not cool it much. I had to pull another wire back through the loom I installed, dismantle the a/c unit and find the power wire going to the thermo switch for compressor. Hooked to the hot side inside of switched side. Now fan comes on and stays on as long as the unit is "on"(any fan speed). They don't really give you any insight in the instructions for wiring and it would be nice if they had a lead out with the rest of the wiring to just hook to. They give you a fan and no place to wire it correctly(unlike how I had it the first time). Guess I'm asking too much? -
We have a local chapter member with a Freightliner powered with a Big Al. It used to be the truck Johnson stood next to in the picture in the front of WOT.

B 61 front wheel bearings
Freightrain replied to eddeere's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I suppose the grease will loosen up and flow around once warmed, but why? I do mine like above. Enough to pack the bearings, then a bit more mushed around as I install it. Granted I don't run heavy or fast so it hasn't been an issue. I have the bigger axle, wonder if it changes anything on the specs? -

I always just did it like a car, snug and spin the hub. Find the spot where the lock bolt goes in and its good. Haven't had an issue. I have the off road repair manual, and likely has the "How to" but never looked. -

Just happen to have a buddy stop over this past weekend and he told me he had a sniffer somewhere. Might have to have him dig it up? I think I will just charge it up this weekend(if I have time) and see how it holds. Might put a can of dye in it just as a "Might help" kinda thing. -
Been an hour west and I coulda hooked you up with some dinner! I always say.....breaking down is always better when you are near someplace. Out in BFE really sucks.

Ok, I thought that is what you did. For $100 you can't come close to making it new.
