MH?? Money Hungry?

The computer is off about 1/2 gal/mile. Not huge in my eyes(for a onboard type system), but when you are talking about such a large fuel capacity on a vehicle it can add up quickly for "missing gallons".

Since I stretched mine out, I'd like to put a set of small round alum tanks behind the bunk, like that truck, and then steps(battery boxes/toolbox) under the doors. I like that look.

The shutterstat itself is just a temperature controlled air valve. With heat, it should close off the air going to the shutters. The shutters should be spring OPEN by default. If they are not opening, remove the air line going to the air cylinder on the shutters and see if they spring open. Is there air leaking from that line now? Then the shutterstat itself is faulty. It takes at least 70 or so psi to get mine to close(against the spring pressure) when I first start the truck after sitting a few days(and no air in the system). Not sure how much air pressure it takes to allow them to close. Maybe your shutterstat is not closing all the way and allowing just enough air pressure to hold the shutters closed. Removing the air line will tell the story.

Like ALWAYS...........I have a race next weekend. We've been rained out so often this year.....(like this past weekend). Ugh.

On these trucks, you just have to push the pedal, count to three, then very gingerly feel your way into gear. I too have heard "drivers" at stop lights grind the life outta first gear trying to force it in. Ugh, they surely prove that they are NOT the ones fixing it when it breaks. I would guess the screws are for lever height adjustment after rebuiding.

Great work so far. Looks fresh and new. I remember mine 4 yrs ago when I stretched it. Now the POR 15 has faded to dull black and it looks all worn out again. At least you have LARGE outside work area. Mine was all done in a single car garage stall. Going outside was needed if you had to change your mind about something.

You mean after it gets to 185*, the shutters won't open back up? When cold, the shutterstat allows air pressure to small cylinder to close shutters. Once it reaches operating temp, it shuts the air off to the cylinder on the shutters and the shutters open under spring pressure.

KInda like the Ford truck chassis in the 80-90's. They would rot from the inside because the paint held the moisture in. When the paint fell off...........there was NO metal left. Same with the oil pans of the day. They would start to drip, you could chip the paint off and there would be a hole. The paint was holding the oil in.

Wow...saw that posted on Facebook. Hmmmm, trouble in paradise? I'm sure the world will never know the real reasons. Seems sudden from an outsiders view, but I'm sure behind the scenes it has been building. With all the bad feelings from all the issues from the past few years.

Ok, you actually two boxes, not a Triplex? And you want to added a 3spd behind it. That is basically the set up I have but mine is a Mack Triplex with a 4spd aux behind it(deep under first). It all depends on the box and what over drive you have, but mine added 7-8mph to my top speed when using both OD's(triplex and brownie). I typically run the brownie in direct for most all driving until I need that last bit of road speed. What are the part numbers on the boxes? That way we can track down the ratios. What rear gear do you have?

I remember way back cutting the double rails off my B model. Same thing, rust spreading. Didn't need the additional support anymore anyway. Lucky they started just under cab and came off easily, once everything was unbolted off the frame.

Brown also made trucks for a short time if I recall. Wasn't there a story in WOT some time back?

My B model has bolt on brake linings. Those brake chambers were very similar to what mine had on it when I bought it.

Hey Paul. Nope, didn't go at all. Ya, it was the nationals with all the big boys............but for some reason I don't get too excited to watch them. I had plenty of other activities going on anyway. Saturday I went on a train excursion trip for the day. Sunday I spent 1/2 day wrenching on my daily driver pickup getting the exhaust fixed up and now I can sneak around without anyone hearing me. The rest of Sunday was spent stretched out on the couch LOL!! My next stick race is National Trails(columbus, Ohio) at the end of the month.
