  1. Thanks for the heads up. My local spring guy could not come up with any replacement springs sets. Without special order and crazy prices!! He said for a few hundred bucks I'll have it back to good and new U bolts and pin. I was going to work on the pin today before cutting bolts and tearing into the front clamp. Maybe I'll go ahead and cut it all loose and the pin "might' come out? I doubt it since it has never taken grease and is likely stuck pretty tight in the bushing. 12 yrs ago I tore the rear springs apart but it was easy with it being out in the open. Of course it is an oily mess, so torches will be tough to use, but don't have much of a choice. No real room to swing a sledge either(had thoughts of removing the fender?).
  2. Hmmm, no tag axle. Must not be him..........................
  3. HAAA!! I knew that would get a rise outta ya Vinny.
  4. I am hoping that reusing most of the pack, only replacing the top few will keep the arch the same, thus not screw the ride height up too bad. I'll take an inch one way or the other as I don't think that will make it look lopsided. If it is worse, then I'll have to take the passenger side out and duplicate it? Maybe once they get the clamps off the back and look at the leafs individually, maybe they aren't bad and can just reclamp it?? Maybe? if it is bad, then I will just put a U model cab on it and then no one will notice the lean LOL!!!!
  5. Well, after 12 yrs, I'm finally going to fix the LF spring on my truck. The two front clamps have been broken the top few leaves have been separated since who knows when? Nothing broke(yet), but thought I would finally take a stab at getting the pin out. Ugh. Got it jacked up this afternoon, removed wheel and lock bolt for the pin. Using my trusty lil air hammer I took a few hits at it. Nuth'n, nadda, ain't moving. Started scraping grease off everything so I can get into it with some heat tomorrow. Once I get that moving, I'll whack the Ubolts off and loosen the front clamp so I can get the spring out. Already spoke to spring shop and they are going to rebuild it with some new leafs and use over what ever they can. Right front springs is still perfect condition so won't need to pull it apart. The left springs has never gotten grease into the pin since I owned it. No matter how hard I tried. Of course the right side takes grease fine. Just another project I've put off forever, but figured my luck will run out sooner or later and leave me stuck on the side of the road.
  6. Weather for today was suppose to be mild and near 50*. Well, we just had white out conditions and the highways are a MESS with accidents. So much for mild and 50*??
  7. I thought it was a Black & Decker aquarium pump? Good movie!!
  8. Hell, I was going to laugh and say my ol B model will run 85................til I realized you had a trailer behind you LMAO!!!!
  9. When I broke the spring on the back of my B model, I used a 4x4 and a rachet strap to get home LOL!! Can't say it rode any worse with the lumber holding it up then it did with the springs?? I jacked it up, wedged the 4x4 between the fifth wheel brackets and the top of the spring clamp. Then a strap to hold it in place. Purrfect.
  10. Nice, clean painted parts are always a welcome site. I see you started on the cab too.
  11. Ya, Minnesota has been getting it all this winter. Even here in Ohio, we are starting to see signs of spring, but the national map always shows snow/cold up your way. Bummer. I'm about going out of my mind here, but it is sneaking into the 40's during the day!!! Yaa!
  12. Absolutely fascinating. Those "weathered" trucks are spot on!! I marvel at that stuff. I just don't have the patience to do it. That R model with the old Mercury sleeper is off the chart cool!
  13. We got a '95 F250 with trans problems at work. Good running 7.3 with just under 300K on it. We bought it cheap(I think $1500)with 250K on the clock and ran it around for a few years. Now the E4od is acting up and not worth putting money into it. I told boss we just need to put it on craigslist and move it. Body is rough and well used. Brand new gas tank in it though!
  14. Wow.....that looks like A LOT of work ahead!!!!! I suppose one piece at a time will get it back to good.
  15. Replaced the Buick V6 in parents car many years back. It was an '87, put an '86 motor in from a buddy. The '86 had SAE bolts for the front accy's and the '87 was all metric. I had to go buy a bunch of odd bolts to put it back together. Mid 80's is when things started to switch over. You have to keep both sets of sockets/wrenches handy. Love my old 60's stuff. With about 4 wrenches you can completely dismantle a car/truck.
  16. Ya, didn't the Professor just pass recently? Like 89 yrs old? Someone posted a Craigslist ad with that plane for sale. Sick.......but funny too.
  17. We have both local enough I get same day service from either sometimes(depends on if they have it in stock). Master has more of the unique stuff(hardware and stuff). Grainger is more mechanical stuff. I keep both books handy and get it from either.
  18. Wow..went to the site. Fantastic work!!!!
  19. We got whacked by that storm. Not so much snow, as ice. I had to run to Orrville on Sunday Mar 9th(day after storm) and the highway looked like a bumper car session had just ended. Not much remaining but the skid marks and the downed signs and guard rails every 100 yards. Down rt 77 and across 30 to 57. You could tell that A LOT of people were not having stellar days. The fast lane was still all ice on 30, but on the way home after lunch it was clean and dry. Birds of a feather?????
  20. Was that 855 to complete with Cummins? How big is the 460hp motor? Still 7xx ci?
  21. Looks like you have a longggg road ahead. Good start though. What's the story on the 63 1/2 Galaxie??
  22. My race trailer has electric jacks on it. I was not going to crank that bastard every weekend LOL!!
  23. Yup, that's it. Seems the Acar had a 391 ford truck engine in it?
  24. Yup, remember the write up in WOT about Betsy. The fellows name is on the tip of my tongue. My first driving job here where I work 27 yrs ago, it was a brand new red 1985 F350 stake truck. I would stop and wash it at the spray wash every chance I got(on my own dime). SInce then, every driver we've had can't seem to remember to take their lunch trash out of it. Pisses me off to NO END when I get in any of the shop trucks and look around. Food, trash, candy wrappers, coins, grease on EVERYTHING. F'n slobs! Our 95 F350 pickup is pretty wore out, we bought it used with 250K miles on it. I still will stop at the spray wash and clean it up before I go to a customer. "Used" does not mean it has to look like shit. One employee lives just down the street from work(and walks). Sometimes I'll run him home if we leave at the same time. He got in my '89 F150 for the first time and said "wow, this is nice". I told him "Yup, no one from work has ever driven it!"
  25. Strange coincidence that both high beams are out? Had this happen to a friend. Only found out after changing the bright switch. Then checked for power at the plug and found lights were burnt. Doh.
