  1. You can tell it's a detroit right away. Even at idle, it's very noticable what it is.
  2. Depends. If I get lazy I start it and pick them up.
  3. Not sure, but I would bet any duplex/tri/quad would physically bolt in. The only problem I see is the tri/quad has a longer back box so the driveshaft would be shorter(meaning those would not be a direct bolt in---but doable).
  4. TERRY...................I SAID YOU CAN BRING THE LIGHTS OVER WHEN YOU DROP OFF THE CHROME PANELS.............. Better??
  5. You can't fix stupid. In a conversation the other night with some of the gf relatives, they mentioned something about drinking 10 kids drinks(those lil plastic jugs of colored syrup water) and not getting sick. I guess they got their football coach in HS to try. He got like 5-6 of them before puking his guts out. Remember the girl that died from drinking a gallon of water in one shot at a radio station competition?
  6. Yes, typical red air suspension mechanic seat. It's very bright, as the bulbs aren't fluted glass, just a smooth sealed beam. My buddy was over yesterday and helped get it set up on there. When he came over today, he remarked it's quite LARGE sitting on top of the truck when he pulled in the driveway. The chrome base is like 4-5" tall, then the dome is another 5-6" tall. I like it. Terry, just bring them over when you drop off all that chrome interior panels?? Huh? right?
  7. I got to sit in Dr. Bills elusive W model back at Syracuse Nat convention. Got to speak with him too, about the videos he made with Lindsay. If I recall he had signs on all his trucks telling you to hop in and look around. That was 9 yrs ago!!!
  8. Back when I got my truck it had a very small KD light on the roof. Nothing much, but I suppose it was as good as they were going to do for it. I always wanted to upgrade, though I don't ever have a real need for a warning light. Few years ago I came across this big four bulb Signal Stat at our local clubs winter auction. Got it cheap and it's pretty nice unit. After some internet searching, I came across a site from a fellow that specializes in old warning lights and police/fire equipment. He was only an hour north of me to boot. I found this very cool Federal model 175 "hill light" and just had to have it. Originally he had it set up with red or blue lights. I requested amber, so he switched it for me and assembled it with new gaskets(which he has made). The globe is very nice(not sure if it's a repop too?). We met up just a couple minutes north of me as he was coming down to the infamous Hartville Flea market. Note the angled white bulbs to throw light up/down a hill to be seen better then just the level bulbs. He also had the "5-0" model(like they showed on Hawaii 5-0 beginning theme) which doesn't rotate, just oscillate back and forth. I got some time this afternoon to get it mounted up.... Very cool(at least that's my opinion). Much better fitting to a old truck then that later model stuff. I'm now ready for the big July 4th parade that I plan to participate in this year.
  9. I hate to have pull it apart to recheck, but I'm positive there was no wear ring on my spindle. I wiped it off and the surface perpendicular behind it. Nothing out of the ordinary, no edges, nothing. Nothing on the forward edge of that seal surface, along it's perpendicular surface down to the bearing race surface.
  10. Go here: http://vsm.skf.com/e...eediSleeve.aspx They have a full listing. Page 12: Part no 99363 covers a 3.625 shaft, .500 wide which should take care of it. Looking at mine, it doesn't look like you can replace the area where the seal rides? (does not look shrunk on there). Maybe I wasn't looking close enough? I understand the Stemco design after the fiasco with my air ride last summer. This did not have anything like that on the spindle.
  11. Well, had time last night to get into fixing seal. At least I thought. Got it apart, cleaned up seal surface to find some scoremarks and concluded that it needs a speedisleeve. Ugh. I was going to get up early today and stop and get one but blew that off. I'll stop next week and get one(about $60 for that lil pecker) so I can "make it right". When I had it apart Tues, I don't recall the marks and I wiped it off. I can't believe I scored it up moving the truck a few feet in the driveway?? could I?? Oh well, my luck. It will survive the short jaunt Sunday(since it's been screwed up for how long?), and I'll worry about it next weekend. Good news, the bearings are still nice and smooth even after 50 yrs.
  12. It may seem like a lot of money, til you sit and price out all the stuff that goes into making a truck like that. 19 perfectly polished 5 holes, paint and bodywork(how many trucks did it take to make that one?), motor, tires(priced tires lately?). For a toy, it's a lot of money(unless you got a big piggybank). If you want to build it, never do it. Love to have an LT with a 320 iron lung. Man, do they sound sweet with a straight pipe.
  13. We always joked about them tiny cars. They pound their chests on how save you are. A 5mph acccident hardly makes mark. We always say "your safe til you get hit by a Ford Excursion". Remember that vid from a month back where that Chevy Blazer goes cross center and gets obliterated by a truck head on.
  14. Temp IFTA can get expensive if you can't get back through in the alloted time(2-3 days) for each state. I found that out when I went to NY for the '03 ATHS national convention. I gave up my truck plate and went Historical since I was gone 4 days and permits only lasted 3 days. I wasn't paying double to be legal both ways.
  15. ......more like if you can convince Barney Fife on the side of the road that you AREN'T commercial. Looks like a duck, talks like a duck............they say it's a duck no matter what you think or show them otherwise.
  16. Ya, got my first points race this coming Sunday. I'm getting TWO seals, as the other side could be going south too? I left the truck outside, so Saturday morning I can knock the wheels off and go at it. If weather doesn't permit that, I'll drive it Sunday and do it next week.
  17. Update. Pulled left wheel off, seems the brakes are fine. Got a leaky wheel seal, let some grease drip on the drum and that's all. Picking up new seals this week.
  18. Hmmm, wish my bounce was as simple as that(as simple as that can get). I still need to get the arms out of the back and rebush them..........sometime???
  19. Glad to see your still checking in Fred. Glenn ain't no slacker when it comes to good, useful information. Unlike me LOL!! Stan's UFO trailer is gone if I recall(don't recall, maybe it got scrapped?). Not sure about the purple people eater? I know we discussed it, but CRS really suxs. I know the Pete car hauler went bye bye last summer.
  20. OK, let me take a look Thursday and make sure it needs them. I did notice the other weekend out it has an ever so slight pull to the left on first touch of the brakes. Not severe, but made me notice and then yesterday it has a slight squeal as it just stops. Makes me think things are getting thin.
  21. Great!! My racing season starts this weekend. I don't have much time to screw around waiting for relines. I do have a local place that does that kind of work, I guess I need to contact them and see if I can get a quick turn around. I have a two week window after Sunday to get it back together. I think I'm going to pull it down Thursday night to inspect. Don't think I'm in serious trouble, but I don't want to tear it up any worse then needed. I found my information sheet from 11 yrs ago when I was looking for BUDD hubs FA517 axle 16 1/2" x 4" brakes Brake drum number 17QJ3162B G630-2 B206
  22. Are front brakes a shelf item or will they take some searching?
  23. ^^^ standard operating procedure for any truck Rob is going to drive. LOL!! Of course, it it gets bad, at least he can hook the Jeep to the front and pull it??? Sure that tow bar he has should hold up?? right??? Might be a bit tough stopping at traffic signals.
  24. I know a fellow Ron Knarr, over Youngstown way that has a Big Al in his Freightliner. All original, very nice truck. It's the picture everyones buddy Bill Johnson is leaning on in the front pages of WOT.
  25. Keep your spirits high. Come here often!!!
