  1. I must have the one and only 673 that will start on it's OWN with no help even at 18* outside. Ya, it's not instantaneous, but with a few attempts on the starter, it will cough and start on it's own. Guess I'm lucky. I've heard people that have diesel pickups that won't do that??
  2. Ya know, Macgyver could weld junk together with just a simple gas generator, a pair of jumper cables and two fiddycent pieces. I know it's true, I've seen it on TV!!!!
  3. Do you hold the throttle down when cranking? It won't start at idle until it's warmed up. Depending on how cold, I hold mine maybe 1/4-1/2 throttle to get it cough and start. Don't let it wind up hard, as I think that's bad especially if you don't have oil pressure yet. After it starts, I hold it high enough to get it warm up all cylinders and then let it idle. Usually about 5 seconds or so. The primer is only to get fuel up to pump, like if you run it dry(umm, well, ya, I know ths from experience). Only once though. Rob is far more experienced at running trucks out of fuel on a more regular basis LOL!!! He is getting A LOT better now at keeping tanks filled up.
  4. Single axle B model? Maybe 11-12K lbs. No problem. Doesn't look like the trailer is a dovetail? Watch the ramp lengths, as you'll catch a fuel tank if they are too steep.
  5. I've got a few more, just need to download them from my phone. I'm not sure, but think this is about the 8th? annual open house. Larry Kotkowski puts on quite a spread. Over a dozen cable shovels, 1/2 dozen dirt haulers, dozen bulldozers, bus tours of the property, FOOD. I want to thank Larry for an awesome time and the chance to drive those crazy mechanical menaces from the past. I put 3 hours in them, couldn't image 10-12 hrs a day, 6 days a week!
  6. Well, another show in the books. WOW, what a turn out. We ran out of places to put all the trucks, we were stacking them 2-3 deep and had to put the rest out in the front area. Heres one for Michelle: had a silver 92 in it. Saw a few BMT people there. Stan Leman made quite a showing...............93 CL E9-500 hp!! He worked a few years trying to buy this. He has had it for a few years now. Pretty low mileage truck. and his E9 500 Super: I spent some time playing in the dirt..............driving this contraption: Got a 6/71 with a 5spd. Hydraulic steering(just 1/2 wheel that basically was a tiller control. Really a trick to be smooth. Did you notice...>NO rear view mirrors! Ya, quite a trick to back this thing up to a bucket. At idle, there is not enough hydraulic pressure to work anything, so it won't steer(arg). After 4 rounds I was getting the hang of it. I then got to switch up to this: Same 6/71 5spd set up. At least it has a regular steering wheel LOL!! No power steering though. Both prove that Detroits are the best machine ever designed to turn diesel fuel into smoke and NOISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This one would not dump unless it was on the wood. There again, at idle it doesn't make enough pressure to lift the bed. After three hours of that fun, I was whipped. I drug myself home and went to Hog Heaven to meet up with my local Ford club members for dinner.
  7. Had one locally I saw a few years back. It just don't look right with the wide front axle and the tires sticking out. They had the cab jacked up 6-8inches to clear the exhaust.
  8. Ya, my thoughts. Guess the young'ns are quite up to speed on that yet
  9. Welcome aboard and Thank You for your service. Do you have any particular variety B model in mind? Looking for a project or runner?
  10. Ben, there are B model cabs available for scale builders. Check out Ebay. Back about 4 yrs ago, I frequented a scale truck builders forum(R/C stuff) and there is a guy in NJ that builds all kinds of unique stuff. He scratch built a B and R model cabs. Never saw them in person, they looked very well done. Maybe not "perfect", but nice. Here's a link to one of the posts: http://www.mwmodeltrucking.com/forum/search.php?keywords=mack&terms=all&author=*joe*&sc=1&sf=all&sr=posts&sk=t&sd=d&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search here's a website someone sent me: Rubber duck model: http://www93.sakura.ne.jp/~time-tunnel/mack-13.html Terry, I have a full size version of that ol bumpside Ford truck: Not quite the full blown "race" version you did, but close as I'll get it. I made a nice Autocad drawing of it many, many years ago and not sure if I still have the file. I think I kept a printed version at home. Nothing quite like yours, but just simple 2d version. I had dreams 20+ yrs ago of taking my '66 Cub cadet and putting a Ford 302/automatic in it. Tough old tractors with nice frames for that kind of work. Nice work!
  11. Good ideas. I've seen those fire demonstrations before. The rooms will get involved very quickly. I keep plenty of extinguishers around garage and in vehicles. You NEVER know when it will come in handy. About 10 odd years back I was at race track, working around my pit area. I noticed a commotion about 40-50 yds away, seems a car caught fire from a leaking line(I think it was transmission fluid), as it was dripping down from underneath. There was plenty of people all moving around quickly trying to put it out. I quickly realized that NO ONE had an extinguisher so I quickly ran to my truck and grabbed mine and ran down there. The hood was opened so I gave it a quick shot up top then down underneath to smother it. It went out easy enough and that is when one lady I know had found theirs and was trying to figure out how to pull the pin to make it work. Little too late. Lucky I was there, or that car would have been a fireball in short order. He had a mess to clean up from the powder, but he did still have a car to clean up at all. Had another car "sneeze" on the starting line and stall. I notice smoke from the large hood scoop. I quickly pulled my racing coat off and ran up and stuck it in to cover the carb and put out the fire. A backfire isn't all too uncommon, usually a quick hit of the starter will pull the flames in the motor and extinguish it. Sometimes not.

  15. Wow, don't remember that one. Musta been asleep at the wheel when that got posted? I see Steve was last on back in Sept 2011.
  16. Terry, I think you need to drop that stuff off to my house so I can test fit them in my truck. I'd hate to have you bolt them on to find out they don't look right LMAO!!!! Damn, that stuff looks SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (too bad my rusty ol truck ain't worth all that shiny stuff)
  17. You got it backwards.....Rob seems to have NO issues at all taking off in a truck with NO fuel in it LOL!!! If he knocks it and sounds full............he'll keep looking til he finds a truck with an empty tank.
  18. Makes you wonder what happened with Steve. Haven't heard much about him in years now.
  19. At least he's honest with the description: 78 mack dump truck for parts not in good shape motor rebuilt 50000 miles ago runs good drives good cab rotted interior crap will seperate. Can't fault him for that.
  20. Hmm, guess that woulda been the simple thing? Just call him. Sometimes I'm not too quick LOL!!
