  1. Put new tie rods on last fall. King pins should still be good. Did them years ago and don't get alot of miles. I feel the bounce and see it in the rear mirrors. It literally shakes the whole truck.
  2. I took the truck out or a run the other weekend(truck club meeting), and the bounce is still there about 55-60 mph. No change even with the new rear bushings in the cross beam. I was in the garage this evening and got to poking around and I think I found the root cause. The front bushings in the arms are bad enough I think it is allowing the beam to "bang" up/down on the front mount and this is the bounce I feel in the chassis. It is not as bad with the trailer(with the weight holding everything down). The weather is getting better, so I'm going to get the truck outside so I have room to tear into it. I need to call Cross Truck and see if they have these bushings in stock also. Might have to wait to after Easter weekend as there is too much going on. Time will tell, but I think this is the problem(I hope).

  5. Ben, I have the old painted shell off my truck, might have the old windshields too( I put new glass/rubber in mine a few years ago). I have some boxes of stuff that came with the truck, if you post a list I might be able to help you out. I'm not too far away(Canton, Ohio).

  8. Looks to be a F350, as 250's never came with tandems. 1978 came with round lights, with square optional. In 79 they made them all square headlight. Good ol trucks.

  11. Actually, the video has "Ten Years After" in the beginning of it. The messages on Youtube note that it is wrong. I'm not that familiar with who he was back in the day, just liked the song/album. Whoever posted the video made the mistake.
  12. It's not actually Ten Years After, it's just Alvin Lee solo. Not sure how I found out about the song? Maybe was on the radio back in the 80's? The whole album is good.
  13. I borrowed a friends 110v machine when I put the bunk on the back of the truck. First I coudn't get my big machine around to where I was welding, plus I was only welding sheetmetal and those small machines do a great job since that is at the upper end of their capabilities/duty cycle. This was a gas machine also, so no flux core wire!
  14. I'm so used to my old machine, my friend gave me his new MIG to fix the the rear suspension on the wagon last winter and I had a hard time welding with it. Told me it would do a better job............but it was so different I had a hard time getting it set right. Even though it's all digital and infinite control. Of course I'm under the car, trying to weld with my helmet mashed between the frame and floor and no room to work/move. Makes it hard to do anything neat. Light?? There wasn't room for light LOL!!! Put me up on a table with everything just right and I'll be Piccasso too. I made a few pieces for buddies Bobcat yesterday. A couple times I went..."wow, that's a purdy weld". Others, not so much. I'm just kneeling on the floor with part flopping around. At the prices for TIG machines and the amount of work I do, it ain't happening either.
  15. Tbone, a friend of mine did a job like that back in the late 80's. His familys car was a '77 T/A. He got it in high school and drove it through college. He pulled the motor to rebuild for shop in college, pulled the front sub frame and restored it nut/bolt and put it back together. White with red interior, automatic. I don't have any pics of my first car(75 Pinto wagon), but here's my first purchase in 1983(damn I was young back then) 1972 International 1210 series, 345ci/4 spd. Ex-township road dept truck: Pretty much all I did was work on it, it was whipped to death, bought it for $150 at auction. I put three clutches in three months. No, didn't abuse it, it was just the levers would break off and leave me stuck. RAM clutches was still in Canton, Ohio and they were the ones that rebuilt it each time. After the third time, I got a cheapo reman unit from local parts store and never had a problem after that. July 1984 I got this gem: 1970 F100, 302/3spd: This picture was from about 1988? It was daily transportation for 12 yrs. Put a few hundred thousand miles on that chassis. Lots of motors/transmissions, rear ends, a good bed, cab and many, many other things. Bought this in 1988: Still have it today.

  17. I'd love to get myself a TIG machine. My ol Millermatic MIG works pretty good(when it wants to). The contactor sounds like a sledgehammer bang'n on the machine when you pull the trigger. I can lay a nice bead if I can see(damn eyesight and not enough light usually). I laugh and tell'm that, "Okay it's not pretty, but it AIN'T gunno break". I've taught myself to TIG at work(using the BIG machines). I got the idear, just don't do it enough to become proficient(ie: neat). Friend has a pair on new Miller machines(TIG and MIG). That MIG is so quiet you don't know it's running until you look up at the digital display. My rattles/shakes like a Model T LOL!!
  18. The size of the chamber will depend on what brackets you have. Mine would accept 30/30's, but most don't.

  20. Yup, my square tanks were rough. Had to fix the bottom of drivers side about 8 yrs ago. It was fine, then suddenly it was puking it's guts out. DOH!! The passenger tank went at the inside corner(under step plate). It was just barely seeping, leaving a damp spot on the side of tank. I got a strip of 1/8" material about 1 1/2" wide and laid it the whole width. Poured the coals and presto----no leaks.
  21. I don't recall what batteries I had in my B model, but they lasted 10 yrs, before getting pretty slow and not dependable in my eyes. I ran 4 grp 31 which is way overkill for a 673, but what the hell they fit. I know only run two since the one battery box rotted out and never got it fixed. Two new ones turn it fine. I got Interstates now since I got a contact and got them at cost(like $60/ea). I hardly disconnect them(even winter), and would only randomly put a quick charge to them in the spring before getting truck out. Totally agree, deep cycles are not made for high draw situations. Only small, constant drain. I cringe when I see them put in drag cars.

  23. Ahhh, the plot thickens............................ When my buddy and I went to Way Cross, GA to pick up his toter home, we took his wifes Expedition with car trailer in tow. Put the Expy on the trailer for the ride home. Renting a car dolly would be a easy way to get car home. Even if it was a Uhaul car trailer for you Jeep? We left at dinner time, drove straight through the night(oh, make that I drove through the night...................there's a sucker born every minute), hooked up in the morning and made it home the following evening.
  24. Thanks Don. I guess I'm not wanting something quite that large(couldnt afford to fill them!). 100 gals total is more my speed. I do like the steps he put on, that's kinda what I was picturing in my head.
