  1. The fuel tanks are hooked together with a balance line. That keeps the amount the same in both tanks at all times. Yes, there are valves to be able to shut them off, but that is not normal operation.
  2. Wish I had the spare change AND room to park it.
  3. I've seen something like that before on TV. Wasn't Vin's, but it must of been one of those RV shows. It was a two level 'Up/down" like that. That's livin' large.
  4. That's actually the LATCH, not the hinge. The hinge is the part where the hood pivots(kinda like the doors on a house). Those spring latches hold the hood down(not like it could fly up since it opens forward). Remember when using a rachet(or any wrench), to look in the immediate area to what you could bang your knuckles on. Guarantee you will slip and hit that exact spot no matter how careful you are and how straight you have the wrench. I can still remember back about 10-12 yrs ago, I was working in the front fenderwell of my race car. Using a 3/8" rachet trying to get a bolt loose. I was pulling TOWARDS my face as I leaned in the fenderwell. (remember that statement above?). I slipped and sucker punched myself in the face with my own fist(holding the rachet). Dammit. It's not "IF", but "WHEN" it will happen. Just a word to the wise.
  5. He may want to get a sleeper cab if he does want to "live large".................LOL!! There isn't much space on the passenger side of a B model. This is what the bumper looked like on my truck when I bought it: Perfect for a towing company truck(previous owned by). Big and burly(read that: ugly). When my friend said "tell me what you want and I'll make if for you".....I wasn't going to make it stock. I carefully measured and played around with designs on the computer before sending it off to him. Within a couple weeks, that big ol bounder showed up at work on a large skid. Custom, one of a kind, never to be reproduced. Friend was part owner of Atlanta Stampings(truck bumper manufacturer), passed from cancer last summer. Hope I never need another one.
  6. Well, here's my .02. I like stock bumpers, on most things. Custom bumpers are cool too, to a point. As per my truck: I has this custom built for my truck per my drawing. Most factory sized bumpers are too wide for a B model and stick out the sides. Mine is narrow and fits the truck better.
  7. 8v92..............(not 8v72) One of my favorite movies. Got it in VHS.
  8. Got a friend that was deep into Hotwheels about 5-7 yrs ago. Nothing stupid like that, but would go to Wally world at 3am to be able to have first look at what was going on the shelfs. That way he could add to his collection. Now, he gives the stuff away in boxes as they are only worth the .50 he paid for them. He did keep some of the big box collector sets in hopes that maybe one day sometime in the next 40 yrs he might make his money back. I guess everyone has their hobby. At least I know from the getgo that my toys will never make me money LOL!!!
  9. That sucks. Glad it only needs a hood. I can see it now, Mike calls in on the radio..........."I need a hood" Crew chief.."Ok, got one, we'll be ready in 30 minutes". Mike: Ok, I'm on my way in" 28 minutes later Mike rolls in the driveway and stops in front of the shop and 5 people come rushing out in uniforms with air tools in hand. Zip, zam, zoowy, zoop, the old hood is off, the new one on and headlights plugged in. The crew then flips the air lines out of the way as Mike jumps off the clutch and rolls out of the driveway again. Perfect pit stop. LOL!!!
  10. I noticed that too. Wonder if someone replaced a frame rail?? Or did someone run outta paint??
  11. Finally after TEN years, I got a 3% raise this past week. Whew....here I thought no one cared?? My last "raise" basically was the owner telling me that I can work for 35 hrs/wk and get paid for 40hr/wk. Ya, in their eyes, I got a raise(cost/hour). Me?? Well, didn't help a dam thing, but an extra 15 minutes of sleep in the morning. Ya, that helped pay the bills...... not . Not sure where I'm going to spend the extra $60(take home) each month???? Taxes(that doubled), fuel(that tripled), food(that doubled), utilites(that doubled).....................................
  12. Pretty rough. Mine was bad enough, though maybe not quite as bad. I ended up cutting the whole floor out, except the frame work area for the center panel that unbolts. I then rebuilt everything, including the inner rocker panel with 16ga steel. Won't call it a perfect restoration, but solid as rock. My rear mount was junk, so I had to reinforce that area too. I had the angles and U channel bent at local sheetmetal place. He's done ALOT of work for me over the years. He rolled me new rear fenders, bent the alum. for my genset box, etc. If you note, I put a piece of 1" sq. tube across the middle where the front of seats bolts down. Gave it extra rigidity. This was back in 2002? After I cut everything out: Starting to put it back:
  13. nuther ones http://cgi.ebay.com/...=item41652d5bc7 http://cgi.ebay.com/...=item3375d43fda http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MACK-DM-/200756094745?pt=Commercial_Trucks&hash=item2ebdfee719
  14. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1980-MACK-DUMP-TRUCK-TANDEM-AXLE-VERY-CLEAN-RUNS-AND-DRIVES-GREAT-NO-RESERVE-/200758564177?pt=Commercial_Trucks&hash=item2ebe249551 Looks pretty clean. Priced right.
  15. Lil rough around the edges, but seen much worse. Is one of the sticks missing? hole in top of tranny next to other stick? Looks to be turbo motor, which looks like it hasn't run in many years(stuck?). Frame looks pretty clean.
  16. I hold doors for anyone that might be there too. Man or woman, young or old. I call it common courtesy. If a younger kid holds a door for me, I make sure to thank them loud and pround to make sure they feel the satisfaction of doing something good. Of course when I was raised, my mother would not walk through a door til I opened it for her. Kinda made it a hard habit to break even all these years later. It's funny now, even in her eighties she does the same thing. Only problem now is she forgets to stand to the side of the door. She'll stop right dead in front of the door waiting for me to open it. I have to grab here and move her aside to get to the door. I don't even look forward to getting old.
  17. It's all "shock value" and what can be used to get a rise out of people. Attention whores, Drama queens.............and many other names. There again, this reminds of "History of the World", the comedy spoof movie from Mel Brooks. They have Moses standing on the mountain with 3 tablets stating "these 15.................oops, I mean 10 commandments (as he drops one of them). http://youtu.be/4TAtRCJIqnk "It's good to be the king" LOL!!!! http://youtu.be/KuMQjKiaDTg Classic stuff.
  18. My .02 Since there is no room for any coolers, likely they detuned it back to a 250hp motor? Since it likely would just burn up trying to make any more. Should last forever like that. The Duplex will too. How about this: take for a drive and see if it lugs down to 1100? Not abusively, but see if it will try to pull itself back up. I'd bet a Thermodyne will just fall on it's face.
  19. Had a friend ride along last Saturday going to the racetrack. Been maybe 5-6 yrs since he actually rode IN the truck. Usually following with his race car. Anyhooo, he commented that it did ride nicer with the air ride out back..........BUT........it's still loud as hell inside LOL!!!! We had all the windows open and she has a pretty good bark pulling along. Conversations aren't held until we can coast along downhill.
  20. I used the biggest 1/4" drive rachet I could find.......LOL!!! Don't worry, it ain't very pretty anyway. It has over a dozen 5/8" grade 8 bolts holding it together on each side. I have no worries at all that it would ever come apart. Thanks for the comments.
  21. Typical differential "fail".................(well maybe more like a lack of welding skills) Well, okay, maybe not a truck, but a good one none the less. I can remember way back when I was young, late in the winters evening, finding a big church parking lot and going at it with my ol pickup truck. I won't say I abused it, just had fun. There is a difference.
  22. I kinda wondered what he asked for, then it struck me as I've poked around trying to find an old school light for my truck. I've got a nice 4bulb unit, but it's too new looking for me. I want a round top model. Unfortunately they get GOOD money for these old lights.
  23. Here is a link: http://dcaptain.com/beaconraylights.html Neat stuff, kinda pricey. Love to find an old round top for my B model. Not that I need it, but would be period correct.
