  1. Ummm, well, the paint brush anyway. That way it takes a LONGGG time to paint, thus leaving her up on the ladder longer.
  2. Rob, so nice of you to help a lady in distress LOL!! I'd offer her a pinstripe brush to get that ceiling painted correctly LMAO!!! Small, short strokes.............
  3. I've never heard anyone having problems with bigger pan? Only thing I know guys have to switch is water pump and maybe damper?
  4. Actually they were on one of the front ends I got when I bought the truck. I had a bunch of sheetmetal and before I sold the stuff I took them off and put them on my truck. Didn't think I would like them at first, but now I don't think I would like it without them LOL!! Just one of those little touches I guess? I used to see them in Whitneys too. Used to see them "jeweled" with a colored jem sticking through and then it would glow that color. Haven't seem them in years now. With a small piece of stainless you could easily make them. Roll them then bent a small tab to stick behind the headlight bezel to hold them on(like mine). Very simple.
  5. I did the bumper because originally it had a HUGE step/push bumper on it from the towing company. If I wanted to keep it in the "Brutus" mode, I could have left it on. I wanted it a bit "cooler attitude" so a buddy had that made for me. Atlanta stampings is the company he works at and he told me to draw something up and give it to him. That is what I came up with. Big enough, but not obnoxious. My first long road trip to Columbus for Expo in 2002. All original except for 5" stack on it. It was wayyyy too loud inside the cab, so I put 4" back on it. It resonated really bad, as you know how them big pipe trucks really rumble when you hear them. 2 hrs and I was fit to be tied!!! Seven years later:
  6. Neat tow truck. Looks like a NJ or the like tunnel truck? Really short wheelbase to be able to turn around in tight quarters. Looks pretty complete, and likely low mileage from just sitting around. Great to see it get worked on. Have fun and ask away. Did that come from Dennis Meehan? I thought I've seen that truck before.
  7. A Lil Wil is only like $25 at local truck stop. They are short whips on a mag base and work great, I run it on my pickup. With a decent peaked radio, it gets out wayyyy good enough.
  8. Got that right Speed!! I few hours in a B model will make you cry to get back into a late model truck LOL!!! Even with that comfy spring ride seat and radial tires..........it's bad after a long trip.
  9. Nice.....if only it was a tandem with room for a bunk!! I'm working on it! That picture sure does do the old dawg A LOT of justice LOL!!
  10. Welcome aboard Micheal. I see you've seen the Youtube videos(ya that's me in the grey flannel coat). You can drive it as fancy or as basic as you are capable of. Double clutching is the "proper" way, but floating it without the clutch(and using two hands) is also very possible and doesn't hurt a thing when done properly. It will all come with time and experience: you should have seen me TRY to drive mine when I first bought it in 2001!! It looked awfully simple to do, but it took a few years of playing around with it to get comfortable. There is LOTS of information available here, plus getting ahold of the Mack museum and getting the line sheet and book on your truck. Do some searches and you'll find lots of good reading here from guys with many, many years of experience.
  11. When I polished my shutters a few winters back, I just used store bought paint stripper and used it sparingly. Just enough to take the old paint off, but not eat into anything. Then some fine sandpaper and then Wenol or polish. They aren't "mirrors", but the look pretty good for a rusty ol truck.
  12. Yup, mine goes instant black after an oil change. Mine has about 15# idle hot, 50#+ hot running down the road at speed.
  13. Well, wonder if someone did something with it since I saw it? I recall it being "shiny" but the paint wasn't much more then a 50ft'r job.
  14. Hmmmmm, wonder what that vibration is? I run Rotella 15w40 in mine. I've never added any additives, even though likely mine did alot of idling previous to my owning it. I've had the valve covers off and it's a bit dirty, but I don't consider it terrible for a 50yr old diesel. Wonder if it's a miss more then a mechanical vibration? Maybe something got loose in the injection pump from the MMO?
  15. How about swapping pumps and see if the ol 673 runs okay then? Or find a pump that is a known good one and try it. Might be simpler to fix then R&R the whole thing. Just a thought.
  16. My single axle tractor is just under 12K, so add an axle and maybe double frame?
  17. Adjust them the wrong way?? Oh, never done that LOL!! Back after I got the truck and put new slacks on it...I did that and WWooooahhhh it don't stop for squat when it's turned all the way out! Only had one wheel that was right and it don't stop 26K lbs very easy. Learned a very good lesson that day........always watch the cam as it turns to make sure you don't unwind it. Then I still give it a yank to check the free play. Mine has the spring loaded lock ring that you have to depress with 9/16" socket to adjust.
  18. Ya, familiar with it. Heard about it earlier this summer, so as we took a bike ride that way one Sunday we stopped and looked at it. Pretty rough, but probably savable. Never did get a number, likely owned by the drilling company behind it? If I recall, it had a normally aspirated 673 with a quadbox. Don't recall the gear ratio out back? something like hi 5's or lo 6's.
  19. Sorry to hear you found a bad apple in the crowd. Some people AREN'T personable, no matter what hobby. I've found that in drag racing(talk about competition LOL! ), though most are okay, some don't want to "talk". I always smile or nod and go on my way. Some people take alot of prodding to open up and be friendly. See that alot too. They aren't mean, just "shy".
  20. Nope, not that I don't do pretrips, but no records of them. I'm anal about walk arounds and making sure stuff is good, because I don't want problems on the road.
  21. LOL! I was going to make a statement about "bleeding" the filter, but figured you wouldn't do what ya did LOL!!! I've left the plug "loose" and then tightened when it seeped. I KNEW I wouldn't get the motor shut off in time if I left the plug out! 60psi sure does make a mess even for second. The motor is all original for what I know. It's got 50 yrs of oil leaks, including the seeping head gaskets(I think-it's always damp). Runs likes a champ though.
  22. Jim...that thing is turning out AWESOME!! I can't wait to see it in person!!!!
  23. I used to put 3 gal in the pan and 3 gal in the filter housing and start it. I didn't used to bleed the filter, but started to the last couple years. Don't think it has made much difference? Mine has always been slow to build pressure after sitting for week or so. My oil dipstick isn't original? It's been changed/marked and not really sure where "full" is? I was told 6 gal, so that is what I put in. Then I heard 7 gal, so I added one this year. There is a check valve below the filter and I pulled it, cleaned it and still no difference. I know it's leaking down, but it doesn't seem to affect anything but start up. It runs 55-60 psi down the road, so I don't worry much about it.
  24. Dash is looking great. Not out of place at all. My truck needs fuel tank work and would LOVE to make a set of alum diamond plate tanks! That would look COOL!! Oh well, maybe someday.
  25. Well maybe they put that on to keep all the slobber oil out of the system? How much oil does your air tank get? Mine used to fill a mug every trip out. I had the a/c rebuilt and now it's dry as a bone. That is why I pulled my shutterstat and controls apart to clean the sludge out. As you can see, it will work without that gizmo, but depends on the condition of your air compressor.
