  1. I got an Escort wagon(1.9/automatic) and I curse the day I would have to drive a (&$#* box like this everyday. I hate it........but it's the only way I can survive and have a few bucks to play with. At 3 times the fuel mileage of my old pickup it was a mandatory investment. I think I would like it better if it was a 5 spd! It would be a bit more fun to drive.
  2. I'm gunno say the 14 spd version is the Double overdrive, so you leave out a few shifts in 5th. Check the website as it has all the gear ratios.
  3. Well, it was a pieces/parts truck and PO doesnt recall all that has happened to it. I have alot of shop records of maintenance that was done in the 80's but no records of the original build up. The records are funny to read as the prices were dirt cheap for all the chrome parts, bits/pieces that they put on the truck over the years. When/what motors were gold?
  4. Strange.....now that you mention it I have seen ALOT of variations of motor colors and realize I dont know what it is suppose to be. Mine is GOLD? Not sure of the real vintage of motor(chassis is about a '62), it's stamped 673P up front.
  5. I need to get up to Stan's and get my "test drive" in his Superliner. Then videotape it.......ya, that's it. (I'll look like a tru rookie in that thing...grind'n gears like a 14 yrs with his learners permit) I'm not sure how well I could drive a "ONE" stick tranny? LOL!!!!!
  6. Pics? Glad to hear it's running again.
  7. Kinda like a two stick, main stick up a gear, then rev it to get compound to catch up to UD.
  8. I run Coastal gear lube in my box. Can't recall if I used the 75-90 or 85-140?, plus I put it in the rear axle. It definitely quieted up the box after tightening the rear bearing and putting in new oil. Don't rattle as much as in years past. I think most concensus on Brownies is straight weight motor oil? The stories I hear regular lube is too thick.
  9. Neat photos. Thanks for posting them.
  10. Cool ol dog. Man...you don't see 6x6 very often. That would be a really neat resto project(though a very long, expensive one). Any lottery winners out there? I bet he's wanting at least scrap price for it? $1500? more?
  11. Since you got them chemically stripped, I be more apt to cut the panel off and weld in new. It's good clean metal, so fix it right while it's apart.
  12. Ya, with that weight...extra gears will help. I know my triplex is way better then a Duplex as I'll shift it like a duplex sometimes to just see how it does. It really takes the wind out of the old girl with that lack of gears. Not that it's quick to begin with...but even with my meager load(14K lb) it really makes a difference.
  13. That's a tad bit BRIGHT!! Yowza (of course my truck is grease black so what can I say?) What color is the body going to be?
  14. There is a steel hooded R for sale locally I saw the other day. Big dump on it, can't recall if offset cab or not? Seems it had a big front overhang, not familiar enough to know what model it is. I was going to try to post a pic, but won't be around to take pic for a couple days.
  15. Herbs got you covered. As for the Quad being better then Duplex? Not sure you'll notice unless you put some load on it as you only gain a few extra gears(besides the Lo/lo holes which are only good for slow movement).
  16. crd112 is the size of rearend(I'd say pretty big, not actually knowing what it is myself) Depending on which quad box(single or double overdrive) is how fast you'll be. I'm thinking you'll be a bit slow(maybe around 50mph?)
  17. Dennis is President of Buckeye Vintage Haulers.
  18. Glad to have you back. Sounds like ya hardly got anything to do now............. (now that's a list! ) Take it easy.
  19. On my B, I put a spin on base back behind the drivers tank(right by fittings) and plumbed it in. Even put separator style filter on it to get rid of water. I left the stock unit on motor. Since I put on dual exhaust it really hides it so it's not even noticable, plus I have my big generator box there too.
  20. I remember someone asking before, but never remembered the answer. Maybe I should hook mine up? Not that I ever worry about cold weather or moisture in the lines. Curious if it works?
  21. I got one of those too...only it's only got one line to it, as the other has been disconnected/removed(on bottom). Doesn't leak, never knew what it was for either. Got to be some kind of valve/regulator? Diaphram on bottom, likely a spring under the large nut on top? Controls something?
  22. Sounds like Dennis. Never dealt with the fellow, but he deals in B model stuff. check out www.oldmacks.com
  23. Welcome aboard Steve. Hope you have fun with your new "toy".
  24. So I should fill the filter to the top, instead of just the 3 gal I put in first time. I don't think I can crank it enough to bleed it now? or should I? That is why I never let mine fire right off, especially after sitting a week or so. I let it crank a few, then give it some throttle to kick it off. Dave, I've run Rotella 15w-40 in mine for 7 yrs now and it's fine. Pulls 55psi running down the road, about 15-20 at hot idle. Doesn't burn hardly a drop all summer.
