That is why the big trucking firms have their own CDL mills. Quick in/out hand them the license and get on the ROAD! I don't think it was much safer 50 yrs ago with all the scary stories you hear from the old timers and the stuff they used to do. The equipment is better, most times. Seat time is the bit thing...being comfortable doing it all is the biggest downfall.

I bought a brand new '00 PSD F350 CC DRW pickup. Man...do I miss that! I sold it off after I got the B going in '02 . What was I thinkin? I straight piped it(no cats in '00), so it was LOUD when pulling my 40ft trailer . 6 spd was sweet! I never played with it(power wise). I put 50Kmiles on it and loved every minute of it. It had 4.10 gears so it only got 15 mpg daily driving it. Not bad for a big truck. The faster you drove it on the highway, the worse mileage it got. Those 7.3's did not like alot of rpm.

Bunch of long hood's powersliding thru a corner I know they used to show roundy-round truck races years back on Wide World of Sports, but have not seen much in the last 20 yrs. I know it's around, but not very popular. Now the "trailer" race they've shown on TV looked like a riot. I'm sure the school bus racing your boss did was a hoot

My s/a short wb B weighs in around 12K lbs(give or take). It fits inside my 108" door okay with one mirror swung in. Not sure of width at tires, but overall it's just over 108" at mirrors.

Kinda like a zerk. Fill the cup, give it a twist to force grease into bearings and let it go. On occasion, give cap a twist to force more. I guess you don't know exactly how much is getting in, guess you have to go on WAG method?

A cup, you simply "tighten the lid" a bit occassionally to pump more grease into part? I think that would be fine, plus it would look original. I'm not sure a zerk would be much better?

Actually Ric that's an old tale that needs to be rectified and forgotten. Yes, you can miss a gear but you DON'T need to stop and start over again. Period. Back in the beginning when I bought the truck I had my problems learning what/how. You can not shift UP until the truck is moving fast enough for the gears to mesh(not like a car when you can do it anytime). I USED to get hung up going from 4hi to 5lo, only because I was not going fast enough to mesh the gears. I need to be going at least 35 mph to make it happen, any slower and I can't get the compound back into LO. The gear speed won't let it happen, so I let the truck slow down a tad, pull the main out and put back into 4th and then play with RPM til compound drops back into gear again. Simple . Then just speed up enough for the shift and try again. As you see I don't have that problem anymore. It's all in learning speed/rpm of the specific truck you're driving. I only drive the truck once a week(at most), so it's taken some time to get real comfortable with it. I can drive it blindfolded now and it doesn't even phase me. Now, downshifting is still not quite as pretty since I don't get enough practice of that.

Look on the right frame rail behind the spring perch for the actual serial number of the truck. That will give you a heads up on what it was. The door tag could have been switched over the years(like mine was). Send it off to Mack and they give you the complete build sheet and history behind your truck. Mine lay flat fine and start ok. They are a bit slow, even on "fast" mode. I think all the oil from the old compressor has got them gunk'd up pretty bad. I cleaned out my shutter cylinder, I think maybe I need to pull the wipers down and clean it out too? Maybe this winter since it's inside now? I thought about making an electric unit(I think I could fab something from donor parts). The motor part is pretty simple since it's hanging out there in the open.

I finally got my little clip put to my laptop last night. Now if I can only "edit" out the bad parts..>LOL!! Still a rookie at the editing part of the program.

Rick, sounds like my set up exactly. Nothing cut or modified. Simply slip alt onto mount, slip on spacer to take up space and bolt it on. My alt. came with double pulley, so I used stock belts. Worked slick'r than snot LOL!! The only thing I had to "make work" was the adjuster arm. I think I had to weld an extension on it to make it reach far enough. It's been 4 yrs since I did this....so it's a bit hazy in memory! Ain't looked under the hood enough to recall either(good thing! ). I can get a picture if you still like one?

I put a 100 amp alternator on my 673. I used the original mount bracket and made a pipe spacer to locate the alt. in perfect position for the belt. Lots of miles on it with never an issue. I guess it depends on the alternator that you use? I'm not sure what mine is? I can get a picture and post it to show how mine is.

Not factory looking totally, but I've seen terminal strips with screws before. Hardware store should have them. Various length/number screws. I might have some original ones in a box, might poke around and see if I find any?

SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man, I think they hit that right on Barry. That is one sharp looking truck, no questions. I like the squared nose and "straighter/flatter" hood line. Those anteater's just don't have any class to them. Now, if they only came with two sticks....LOL!!!!!

These old trucks always fall into the "what are you willing to pay for it" routine. Is it a good deal to you? Personally, without looking at it, I don't think it's a bad price. How's the tires? body/rust?, brakes? etc? How much do you plan on using it, and how roadworthy is it? This topic gets discussed alot, and I think most will agree with what I have said so far.
