A 237 and triplex is perfect in my B. I dont split until 4th gear, even pulling my trailer. Now there may be different flavors of 237 but mine runs up to 2100(heard some don't). Having the option to drop 1/2 a gear works well for my towing. It runs through PA hills with the cruise set at 65 mph. Would love to have a 300! Why? Just because you can't have enough power! BTW, my local shop wanted $2500+ to recalibrate the pump and they needed specific numbers as they had nothing to go by. I quickly decided to leave it alone.

B61 Removal of Rear Leaf Springs
Freightrain replied to thomastractorsvc's topic in Driveline and Suspension
I was lucky my right side is good, but did rebush the left side. Somehow I was able to hammer the pin out. Might have taken some heat? Its been some time since I did that job. Only hard part was getting the front pad bushing installed and cap put back on. Choice words did seem to help. Lol. -
My buddy has a very large hinge made up of like 3/4" plate and 1" bar for the hinge. Nothing store bought. Yes, rescanning is a PITA. I'm pretty lucky as I can leave mine headed north and get most of the channels I watch...as I don't watch much anymore. Running the rotor is a sllooowww process! My rotor did come with little stickers to put on the box to help show where it needs to be for what channels, but like I said I don't really change it. I pretty much bought it "just in case" since it was very reasonably priced. With digital, there is very little gray area on reception signal.

Jake Brake Parts needed?
Freightrain replied to Brocky's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Tec brake is the knock off for Jacobs brake. http://www.tecbrake.com/ Mack has some parts for Jacobs 2 valve, but very slim. The full rebuild kit is still available, as I did mine a few years back before I put them on. Pricey, very pricey. I just didn't want to have to deal with mine not working or any other problem from vintage, oily old motor parts. I think I know of the "insert" that screws into the head, has an O ring that seals into the Jake assembly. I likely had to purchase those when I installed mine? I can't recall what all the small pieces that came with the jakes I bought? -
Neat. Looks like it has some kind of early parking brake system? I see rods running forward from the rear axle.

When I ditched my Dish Network, I went to local electronic shop(burned down now) and bought a nice big antenna, a ROTOR, chimney mount, and some cabling. Now I can get signals from anywhere. Not very expensive either. I think I had $300 in everything. I like your fold over design! A friend is working on something similar, but it is for his 80Ft tower he is replacing for his CB. Big storm took his last one down a few years ago. He can't find ANYONE that will climb/build a tower anymore, so only way around it is to build it and swing it up. We were discussing the effort that it will take to stand it up. I don't think he realizes how heavy that will be and the power needed to stand it up with a very short prop point for the cable. Signal is everything when dealing with digital. It's ALL or NOTHING!! No real "static" like the golden days of yesteryear.

new paint on b
Freightrain replied to davehummell's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
This was posted years back at our Ashland show. Before I installed the 237. I have some new GoPro accessories and plan on making a new driving video when the weather breaks. Send me an email with the video file and I can save it to my youtube channel. -
new paint on b
Freightrain replied to davehummell's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Dave, I painted the hood last winter. The cab needs done, but I buffed it up to make it look a bit nicer to go along with the fresh paint on the hood and the new doors I put on a couple years ago. I painted the fenders about 20 yrs ago. The grille shell is almost 20 yrs old now. I bought it from Watts back when they were still "cheap". I keep it waxed up. The transmission is still an ongoing mission to replace/upgrade. -
Oh Randy.....back to sensitivity training for you!!!!! 😷 LoL!

I've seen similar setups on big wreckers for that kind of work. Dont know how they plumbed it, but cant see it as illegal.

Air Tanks

Just like my aluminum air start tank. Looks good from 10 ft which is good enough. -

Acetylene bombs? Ya, buddy in HS got some balloons and we played around on July 4th one year. His neighbor had told us about using trash bags at his work. Sooooo, being a holiday and his neighbor had a big hoo-haw going with friends we decided to fill a trashbag...>with just air....and put a piece of tape on it and light it and throw it across the bushes. OMG...the guys scattered, screaming like little girls while the wives all sat there just stunned. As the tape burned down to nothing and the bag just went "poof"......we got a good laugh. Though the neighbor wasn't laughing as much, at first. Good times. -

Agree. I'm guessing the shorter units are less critical and only when they get into the tall units do they do proportional to lessen the jerkiness. But with someone that is less then happy about being up in anything, proportional would be a good thing in any bucket. Back in HS, I was in the Ohio Power Explorer group. We had monthly get togethers and went to various places to see all about power transmission. We got a tour of the service dept and they took us up in a bucket truck and played around a bit. They jerked the control to get it bobbing around to see how the fiberglass arm flexes. I grinned and bared it, but was glad to get back on terra firma. The fun part was at school the next day when I got to tell the Electric shop teacher that a few us got "high" last night. Oh the look I got..........until I told him it was 30 ft in a bucket truck. LOL! -
I have one of those concave steering columns out back. Thought of putting it in my truck with a smaller wheel to just give me a bit more breathing room. Luckily I don't physically need it(yet).

Ok, wondering if you were getting into something else to keep yourself busy and out of mommas way? I see words and all I hear in my mind is Charlie Browns teacher..............waa waa waa waaaa waa wa. LOL!! Though I do understand basics, fancy electronics are a touch out of my pay grade. So with the variable control it won't be like the cheesy rentals I've dealt with and their herky-jerky motion as you bump the button to move just a little bit and get throw a foot? Working in the shop, at under 25 ft I'm okay. Outside was different since the lift didn't get up high enough and I was stretching out of the basket to reach up and get to the light I was trying to replace. Ugh. I gave up quickly. Screw that, I'm not getting paid enough and no fall protection either! -

Looks like a fun project. What kind of work are you getting into that requires that kind of height? I've gone maybe 30 ft in similar apparatus, but that's above my pay grade!! Lol. Once they get jiggling around and those controls are never smooth...... I'm not a happy camper. -
Yup, dirt and corrosion will create high resistance and can burn up the plug with no real electrical issue otherwise.

Still looking really good Paul!

New here! B60T project
Freightrain replied to SkippyMack's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I took my air cleaner to my local motor shop I use and had them hot tank the body. Crystal clean and was ready for fresh paint. I recall most manuals show the cleaner being submerged in fuel to wash it out. As for oil? I just use my 15w40 rotella I use in the engine. Fill to the line on the side of the bottom pan. -
I would figure the pump itself would be a non issue? It just bolts into the housing. My 673 was a non oil cooler and worked fine in my 237. I figure it is only the shaft length that changes. Try putting just the 673 pump in the 237 housing.

New here! B60T project
Freightrain replied to SkippyMack's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Yes, assembling the front of these trucks are a jigsaw puzzle of sorts. The few times I have had mine apart, it took a bit to remember the sequence to get it back together. From bad memory, I think the fender is the last piece on. Inner headlight panels and inner fenders, then outer headlight panels, then fenders? If you get it wrong, you won't be able to bolt things together because certain bolts will become hidden. -
Very solid looking truck. Might look at maybe a flatbed with some gin poles on it? That might come in handy to move stuff around(if you have big stuff). The flat bed would give you plenty of room to haul things too.
