V8 Pulling
Freightrain replied to j hancock's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I loved my straight piped ford 7.3 powerstroke diesel. It sounded like a baby E9! -
Early start up!
Freightrain replied to PC68's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I took care of the guy(me)plowing gravel into the yard. I never installed the plow on the tractor!! We never got enough to worry about, luckily. We're not out of the woods yet, but close. -
Sounds like switchblade wasn't working? Or incorrectly sized? I'd be curious to find out.
-
Two bad gauges? If it snapped the cable right at the gauge?

fuel tank b 42
Freightrain replied to davehummell's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Glad to hear there is a real reason. I looked at mine today while we were test fitting the hood before paint and the front edge of both tanks stick "out" a bit from the rear. I never really noticed it all these years until I put the shiny tanks on. Guess all the glare makes it stand out more?? LOL! -
Did you replace the outer casing also? Or just the inner cable? The casing itself my have damage that is eating at the cable. If you replaced both pieces, that's good, but since it broke again with another gauge...that is a mystery. Does the cable have slack in it? Pulled tight around something?

fuel tank b 42
Freightrain replied to davehummell's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
A comment was made about mine also. I had my brackets off and powder coated. No spacers, all four where the same, though the one tank appears crooked. I never noticed it before. I need to dig up the pictures I have, they aren't on this computer. -
Ah, I see. I knew there was a big commotion about losing the pictures. I didn't realize it was actually two different places.
-
I thought that he shut that down quite some time ago?
-
I wish I had a cab, but it needs the front corners finessed also. They stick out(better than in). I also realized today he ground the tabs off the hood sides that locate the stainless trim. Ugh, guess he will be welding something back on? Smdh.
-
Well, that would be nice, but it needs more bodywork to the cab too and not sure if he wants to get into all that now? I'd have to strip stuff down, blah, blah, blah and I need it ready to roll by mid April. Not sure if you have ever had a vehicle stuck in bodyshop hell? LOL!! My buddy wouldn't do that, that's why it took another year to get the hood done after he did the doors last winter.

I feel old
Freightrain replied to davehummell's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Once you balance the teeter, getting it to flip over is as easy as raising your hands over your head. Then move them to your side to flip back. I could see a real PITA situation if that motor fails at some point!!! UGH< help I'm stuck upside down!!!! Manually it's easy-peasy. The Velcro would be easier, if you left a big enough string to pull without having to bend over. I guess it all depends on your own situation and mobility. I'll let you climb all the 300 ft towers you want. I'll stay hanging upside on the ground!!! LOL!! -

Buddy used one for years, that is why I bought one. I got mine off Amazon, a real Teeter version. I like it, but the latest commercial shows another improvement in the design. The foot latch on mine is right at your ankles. Well, when your back is screwed up , you can't touch your ankles. which makes it a real BITCH to get yourself out of it when you are done. Karen had to do it for me at first. The new model has a long lever to latch your feet, which I'm sure makes it much easier for a person with back issues to use. I've poked around mine trying to figure out how to get the spring latch apart so I can weld an extension on it. Might just have to take the whole thing to the garage and do it while assembled? Surely be a nice improvement, but hasn't been a big enough issue to cart it outside and change it(yet). Funny story. When I ordered mine a few years back, I was really jacked up....BAD! When it arrived I couldn't get it in the house. Box was way too heavy. Had to dismantle it outside and Karen had to help be drag parts inside to assemble. Within a few weeks of daily use, I was much better. -

Karen can't use it. She tried it once, I didn't get her level and she was panicking. If I don't use it all the time, I can't get my back to pop. Once I get back on my regimen I can feel myself "pop, pop, pop" as my vertebrae expands. Feels good. LOL!!! I'm glad I know you better then that. -

You have to work up to going full invert. I did, and it works well for me. I can feel it "click" as i stretch out. -
A racing buddy actually sent me the link, so thought I would put it here.

I feel as bad as I did when I was 40. Back then I was going to the chiro 2-3 times a week just so I could move around. I'm not going to chiro anymore since I bought my inversion table, which does help some. -
From Craigslist: https://knoxville.craigslist.org/cto/d/knoxville-mack-truck-42-for-sale-cab/7083609205.html Mack Truck B-42 for sale 1963 Mack B-42S truck, originally gasoline powered now powered by a Cummins CF-160 6 cylinder diesel engine. Showing 100k plus miles in running condition. All steer and drive tires and rims have been changed from 20 inch bias ply to 22.5 inch radials with decent tread. The transmission is a Mack twin stick 5 speed plus 4 speed Quadruplex. It is a tandem axle truck with an original wheelbase of 170 1/2 inches that has been lengthened to 194 1/2 inches. The overall length is about 23 feet. It has one 50 gallon step style fuel tank and was originally specified as a concrete mixer delivered to Jackson, MS in February of 1963. I have a copy of the original order sheet and other literature from the Mack Museum in PA. It has some rust through in 2 spots on the lower back of the cab but the rest of the cab and floors are solid. It would make a good car or tractor hauler. I have new door window glass, 4 inch stainless exhaust parts, and stainless door mirrors that will go with the truck. Bill of sale only but can apply for title. Asking $3200 or best offer. Contact me through Craigslist if interested. Located in west Knoxville. Not mine, just passing it along.

Well, after all these years I'm finally getting the hood fixed up on the truck. Took it to my buddy a few months ago and told him to pick away at it and let me know when it's done. He texted me a couple days ago and tells me to come get it and test fit it before he finished bodywork. He had patched the corners and replaced the inner supports at the latch points. Looked good so far. I bring them home and throw them on only to find out the back corners are pulled in severely and it won't fit the cowl by inches. I talked to him today and ask how I might do something about it. After a talk I decide it is better to bring the truck to his shop and let HIM make it fit. We just got a blast of winter yesterday and should get some decent accumulation the next few days. Last weekend would have been perfect to drive it over(50 and clear). Told him we'll watch the weather and maybe in a couple weeks it will be good enough out to drive it over so he can tinker with it(it's a 45 min drive). I've still got a couple months before it has to be road worthy so it's not critical yet. Heck, it's a hot rod now...no hood!!

B/L Model Interior Question
Freightrain replied to mattb73lt's topic in Exterior, Cab, Accessories and Detailing
Interesting. My headliner is falling apart at the seams, literally. Though I want something a bit more fancier like quilted. As warped as my cardboard is, I don't think it's worth trying to recover and reuse? Just another "want", but still searching for a reasonable costing fix. -

Ah shoot Hank...um, Dave. I was hoping you'd get all practiced up and come swap my transmission(when I do find one). I'm only working on half way through my 50's and I pay for every little thing I do anymore. I'd suggest you all get stock in Aleve as I'm buying more then I ever thought I would? I can't keep things in my hands anymore. Just last week, working at my local machine shop cleaning engine parts I'm walking with a rod/piston in my right hand. Three steps away from where I was going, my right hand just decided it didn't want to hold on anymore. I did a quick two step to try to get my foot in the way so my much too expensive piston/rod didn't bounce off the concrete. It almost work. Only pinch the oil ring land in one spot!!! Dammit. -
Yup, first time i ever had to report a post. I see it worked well.

WTH? Definitely SPAM! My original post said NOTHING about 4 yr old kids. The weird link has reviews about kids toys(I didn't click it, just put my pointer over it to see where it would go) "They" only have a few posts in all the years here and most have some kind of link put into a quote from another person.

B-73 Restoration
Freightrain replied to mattb73lt's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
When I hung the NOS doors on my B last winter, it was a job of lots of patience. They did not put these cabs together to have everything line up all Purdy like. You can only wiggle things around so much before it doesn't even fit anymore. Unless you really want to put the time in welding door edges and grinding them perfect? For all the work you put in, it looks great! -

Freightrain replied to Quickfarms's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Ditto, valve covers pretty easy. Jake spacers just sit on there. I think I used rubber when I put mine together. Put some RTV on one side of each gasket to hold in position. Still dry after a couple years.
