  1. Just keep experimenting. Unless you really like shifting? LOL! I used to play a lot with mine for no reason...then after 10-15 yrs I only use enough gears to get the job done.
  2. I would not worry about starting anywhere near 1st gear. You've got plenty of gear in the back, as that 13:1 first gear, plus 8.x in the back is 104:1 to the tires. With my added Spicer box behind my triplex in LO-LO, my lowest gear is 100:1 to the tires. Believe me, you don't need that to get moving. I only use that for slow truck races LOL!! Figure about 3rd gear for getting moving. Might even get 4th LO??
  3. Clear as mud LOL!! In a std single OD transmission, once in 4th/HI, you go to 5th/LO. Once in 5th/direct you are direct drive. Then the overdrive is when you shift the compound to OD. In your transmission, 4th/direct is direct drive. Then 4th/OD is the "first" overdrive. The last shift is 5th in the main box, which basically doubles the overdrive ratio.
  4. Being a double OD, you lose a few more gears then a Single OD transmission has. You don't split 5th, since it is OD, thus it is only a 14 spd Once you get to 4th OD, the last shift is moving the main box to 5th which completes the double OD.

  6. What'd he say??? LOL!!! Pretty cool outfit.
  7. Seems "IF" they could power that chain, it could physically clamp on the logs once the jaws are closed. Thus eliminating the chance of slippage. Or, maybe a second set of smaller tongs inside the large tongs that could fold down and pinch the longs from the top. I'm sure their engineers looked at many designs and this won out. Maybe because it was cheaper and less chance of failure?
  8. HEAT/VIBRATOR? Is that for the drivers seat or the dump bed??
  9. This was done a few years back. Does he do it every year now?
  10. With said slow gearing, skipping gears is fine. With mine I try to keep it above about 1400 on a hard pull(with my trailer). Below that the old triplex starts complaining! You'll feel it start to thump and that's tough on these single countershaft boxes. Bet you can start in 3rd low, 4 lo, then split it up a few. I only need 2 lo when starting with my trailer. I have 4.10 gears out back.
  11. I tried the "shed" routine. Nope, they won't allow it. ANYTHING with a roof is considered a building and on residential property goes towards your total sq footage on outbuildings.
  12. Rob, if you make the trip, stop by Ashland on the way home. Our show will be going on Sat/Sun. I know you didn't make it last year.
  13. When I needed a lash cap for my 237 (also nla) I got on Facebook Mack pages and asked. In a few short hours I had an offer. Couple days later it showed up. FB can be a useful tool.
  14. I've seen a few videos on line, the trucks are rolling in.
  15. ^^ This. I went through this 14 yrs ago with my truck. I'm maxed with building sq footage, couldn't put up carport, can't fence it in, blah, blah, blah. Plates or insurance didn't change the physical "Truck" they called it. I ended up cutting my garage up to fit the truck inside. Mike Harbison took on city hall with his field of trucks and won(after plating and insuring them all). But that area is a bit more rural then my place.
  16. Have you checked fuel pressure? That was the second stage of my lack of power issue I had the second year I had the 237 in my truck. First the bushing on the throttle arm. Once I fixed that it started loosing power on hills, randomly. I finally put a fuel pressure gauge on the pump and hung it on the air filter so I could watch it running down the road. I had very low pressure, like 5 lbs at idle and it would drop off under load. I replaced the lift pump and suddenly I had 20 psi at idle and about 10 under load. Truck runs fine. Oops, just reread your post. Says pressure was fine. But is that under load?
  17. Is the throttle linkage working? Getting WOT? I know the arm on my 237 pump come loose and it would drop boost/power randomly(as it slid on the shaft). After addressing the clamp it holds fine. You could drive it, but under a load it would not pull(due to lack of fuel and boost).
  18. Looks like 3/8" bolt. Something in the 30-35 ft/lb range should suffice.
  19. Didn't even notice that!!
  20. I think it's out of Jay Leno's ballpark!!! LOL!! I like how they value it at $1 million. Ok, but it's only worth what someone will give you and likely not many prospects!!! Seems like the last owner quit putting money into that large pit, thus it's sitting outside for the last 6 years.
  21. Barn fresh!!!! Little crusty here/there, but doesn't look too bad. Hows the rain gutter area? The roofs tend to rot off those trucks.
  22. 285 with tip turbine? With camelback suspension...it will beat you to pieces driving it bobtail. But it will be fun!!!! LOL!!
  23. Yup, that was my first thought. Wheel Bearings! That old bushing stuff is not allowed on the rails today. Moving it would be more then the cost to purchase it. Then the money to restore it. Massive money pit.
  24. https://akroncanton.craigslist.org/hvo/d/diamond-vintage-1949-lj-mack/6888669925.html No motor or transmission. No scrappers please. Text or email best. Leave message if by phone. Make reasonable offer. (330) 428-5446 NOT MINE!! Just passing it along.
  25. Wish you were running closer to me. I'd like to check it out.
