  1. Have been on a couple steam excursions back in the 90's. Love to stick your head out the car window and feel the soot!! LOL! Got to run a 1949 RS-3 last year about this time. Best day at work EVER! Would love to ride the 4014 when it is done. Or at least stand next to it.
  2. Pretty sure I bought my chrome riser pipe from Matt Pfhal, it came with the little lid which I didn't use. I like the big lid.
  3. My fenders are painted, but that just means they buff up well after me sitting or laying on them!!! There is no way to work on a B model and NOT scratch the fenders up. I have a large rubber mat I can lay on it, but even that is a PITA and I don't use it very often.
  4. Had a good friend that did the same thing, only they found him laying next to his truck in the morning, much too late. Was only in his 40's. Hope your friend pulls though!
  5. Time to fine a single axle air ride and slip it under it. Faster and smoother. My Ford frame was a simple slip fit and bolt. No welding required.
  6. Dave Strickland trucks. Nice, very nice
  7. Imagine a 300 hp 6v92 and get some good highway gears out back? I would recommend getting rid of the baby quad though.
  8. I would bet a 6v71 would fit fine. They did put V8's in the B, but they did take up all the room and under the access panels on the fenders.
  9. Any judging shows are a shot in the dark. It is still upon the decision of the judge as to their interpretation of the rules/guidelines. Hopefully they are consistent on their opinion so that everyone knows what to expect. I marvel at the work people put in to those kinds of cars and dream of owning one. I just know that it will never happen because I USE my vehicles. They get dirty and scratched. Like I say, a truck show is a wide open field. Nut and bolt restorations and "Field" finds. Both get treated the same way by onlookers. Been quite a few years back, I took my '69 F100 up to the local fairgrounds for the big Ford swap meet. You could park inside the car show for free, but had to be judged. I laughed, but it beat walking from the back 40. They came around and picked it apart(like I cared). I thanked them and walked away. I have a friend with a '68(?) GT500. It has top honors, like 995 out of 1000. He can't bring it to anymore Shelby shows as it is a top winner. He worked 20 yrs restoring it and it is perfect.
  10. ^^NO different then the rest of us. That is what is GREAT about trucks.............they are perfect no matter what you do to them. Not like the Corvette club where all the screw heads have to be turned the same way and you have points taken off for not having the original air in the tires............. (darn near true story, had a fellow at work years back that was in the local club. It was a nightmare hearing him tell of what was expected of you) You've done a fantastic job.
  11. Went to hardware store and bought three new springs of same diameter and wire size. Trimmed about 1\2" off so same length as others. Put it together and sitting on motor. Need three more bolts to mount it and the run valves. Little by little.....
  12. Ya know if that woulda been a HEMI convertible..........you'd be living high on the hog right now!
  13. This was a spur of the moment kinda job and it came back to bite me. Should have just sucked it up and waited a day to get the right parts. Yes, I do inspect the joints to see if grease comes from all four sides. If they ares sealed well enough(so they can't get moisture inside) then greasing isn't that big of deal. Being cheapo parts I figured I would stay on top of them...........for no good reason apparently.
  14. So, just over a year ago, about 15K miles since I put a set of U joints in my '95 F150. I noticed a slight shake and figured I might as well do it. My big mistake was NOT waiting another day and getting a set of SPICER joints at the Federated parts store next to my work. I was home, so I just ran down the street to my local AZ and got their brand. See where this is going?? Last month or so I've noticed a continuing vibration and it has been getting much worse over the last week. I got under truck and wiggle everything. Nothing felt bad. I grease it at oil changes of 3K miles. The only thing that stuck out was the slip yoke at transmission was kinda sloppy. I picked up a new yoke at Summit Equipment and got home last night and plowed and then proceeded to drop the shaft to replace the yoke. That is when it all went sideways. I happened to grab the yoke and move it...........hmmm, this ain't right. It had a really bad catch in it. SMFH. Dammit. Too late to deal with it and no place local to get GOOD parts. I put another shot of grease in and put it back together. This has a companion flange on rear end and (4) bolts with 12mm 12 pt heads. Just a PITA(laying in the snow to boot). Today I stopped at Federated and they tried to sell me Moog joints. Box said "made in Mexico". I said "do you have Spicer?". They said they just started carrying them and exchanged them for me. They are $4/ea more then Moog, but said "made in America"(nothing about "with imported parts). I hope to get more then 1 yr service out of them.

  16. So what is the wheelbase going to be? Mine is long even at 206" for a single axle. Makes it look like a 240ish if it was a tandem.
  17. Fantastic work, as always. I just drool over nice, clean, well painted trucks................every time I crawl under my greasy, old, rusty truck.
  18. Ditto on all the above. If you don't plan on pulling much weight, just leave it NA. I spent 14 yrs wanting to do the same thing to my 673. I just bought a 237 and got some real power.
  19. I know they both had different solenoids on them so I know someone has been through them at some point. The paperwork that came with the kit shows TWO springs, so I'm guessing the two springs are the upgrade(not the other way around). Of course the kit doesn't come with the springs.
  20. Bwhahahahaha..........
  21. Did they paint your name on the door?
  22. We actually have(had) a Downtown Ford here in Canton. It was just bought out by a local conglomerate Liberty Ford as the previous owner retired and sold out. Our local Ford club has been meeting there since the mid 80's. Still a member thought with my part time job on the Willy's I haven't made a meeting in a few years.
  23. Tore my Jake's apart for rebuild. Found one to have single springs in slave cylinder and the other has double springs like the kit shows. Did someone forget them in the past? Will they work okay or should I order them and get them installed? Kit does not include them, only valve springs. I got the shell, shutters, radiator and bumper off the truck to ease running valves without having to crawl under the truck to get to flywheel.
  24. Only person killed was passenger in trash truck is what I heard this morning. Once I heard it was GOP, I hoped no one was hurt.
