  1. Salvageable? I guess it depends how much you like to weld? LOL!!
  2. I wonder if you couldn't machine the spindle to fit a 517 pin? Is there material? Pin long enough? Just thinking outside the box. My truck has 517 and I did the pins about 16 yrs ago.
  3. And here I thought the B model was a horrible dash design? I kick and scream every time I have to even THINK about pulling the dash panel to get to something. You can't do it. It's bad enough the steering column is in the way, but you have to squeeze your hand in there first to get tach cable loose so you can pull the panel out enough to even get to anything. Make sure the batteries are unhooked, as the key switch is HOT and if you lean it down it will touch the dash and POW!!! Glad to see you got the air steering working. I had to rebuild my mounting points as they were all egged out. Lucky I work at a machine shop!! Did you put a flip valve to turn the steering off? Did you add another air tank? I did both. Don't usually need to ever turn it off, but the extra tank helps a bunch.
  4. Don't remember much about it, other then the cafeteria style serving. I suppose back in the late 70's it was the in thing. I suppose it isn't too much different then Golden Corral today? It sure was a "different" time and I'm old enough to remember it.
  5. LOL!! Ya, it is convenient to put it there to keep it under cover. Only have room in the shed for one tractor(the 149) so until spring that is where it will sit. When I picked it up from my friend it was sitting in the back yard, under a ripped old tarp. We had to drag it out of the woods with his bigger tractor as the tires were all flat and it is hydrostatic and the pressure relief handle is missing. We actually were able to put some gas in the tank, a battery in it and it started and I drove it up the ramps into my pickup. I was surprised.
  6. I just googled it, there is one in Columbus, Ohio. There was one in Canton many years ago, inside the mall. I can remember going there when I was young.
  7. York Steak House.......oh what a blast from the past!!
  8. Solid cast iron baby!! Nothing whimpy on old Cubs. 1\4" steel frame! Solid cast iron rear axle assembly. 5 x 4 1\2" bolt circle on the back fits Ford car rims. Deck is cast iron center with 1\8-3\16" formed deck.
  9. Yes, the oldies are starting to command big money, as no one wants to bite off the payment on a $20K lawn tractor!! Kinda like old cars. Most figure you will pay a fair sum for a decent old car then $35K for a new car.
  10. Friend just bought a new Deere with quick attach loader and deck. Pricey! I'll stick with my 45 yr old stuff.
  11. I have a picture of my 149, basically the same machine as the 127. The 127 is electric lift instead of hydraulic. The 127 came from a friend, needed some loving. Runs well, just needed some front end work and new tires.
  12. I still run my '72 149 Cub Cadet. Just machined my other Cub(127) pivot bushing for brass insert and the same with spindles. It is nice and tight now. Few hours and $15 in parts. You do have to pull the engine to get access to the pin. PITA, but not that horrible overall. Will be doing my 149 this spring now that the 127 is ready. I was going to look at newer tractors, but with all the crap on them I really wasn't interested. Plastic everything, all the stupid safety switches(to back up you have to turn a switch, turn off the deck, turn the key back and then reverse. NOT).
  13. I've patched/welded on mine for years. Until I ordered new Aluminum tanks last year!! No more leaks LOL!! I used to drain them down, loosen the straps and make sure the fuel was away from where I welded. No problem. It would find a new spot every few years, thus I replaced them.
  14. On mine you could see where the vent window had banged into it. I had it straightened and painted with my air cleaner years ago.
  15. My truck has Heater switch in one hole, Defroster switch in the other(can't say which side is which without looking in truck). Both are pull switches, with two settings, HI and Lo. The defroster switch is a black plastic knob with defroster written in white. The Heater is a white knob with heater in black letters.
  16. Have been on a couple steam excursions back in the 90's. Love to stick your head out the car window and feel the soot!! LOL! Got to run a 1949 RS-3 last year about this time. Best day at work EVER! Would love to ride the 4014 when it is done. Or at least stand next to it.
  17. Pretty sure I bought my chrome riser pipe from Matt Pfhal, it came with the little lid which I didn't use. I like the big lid.
  18. My fenders are painted, but that just means they buff up well after me sitting or laying on them!!! There is no way to work on a B model and NOT scratch the fenders up. I have a large rubber mat I can lay on it, but even that is a PITA and I don't use it very often.
  19. Had a good friend that did the same thing, only they found him laying next to his truck in the morning, much too late. Was only in his 40's. Hope your friend pulls though!
  20. Time to fine a single axle air ride and slip it under it. Faster and smoother. My Ford frame was a simple slip fit and bolt. No welding required.
  21. Dave Strickland trucks. Nice, very nice
  22. Imagine a 300 hp 6v92 and get some good highway gears out back? I would recommend getting rid of the baby quad though.
  23. I would bet a 6v71 would fit fine. They did put V8's in the B, but they did take up all the room and under the access panels on the fenders.
  24. Any judging shows are a shot in the dark. It is still upon the decision of the judge as to their interpretation of the rules/guidelines. Hopefully they are consistent on their opinion so that everyone knows what to expect. I marvel at the work people put in to those kinds of cars and dream of owning one. I just know that it will never happen because I USE my vehicles. They get dirty and scratched. Like I say, a truck show is a wide open field. Nut and bolt restorations and "Field" finds. Both get treated the same way by onlookers. Been quite a few years back, I took my '69 F100 up to the local fairgrounds for the big Ford swap meet. You could park inside the car show for free, but had to be judged. I laughed, but it beat walking from the back 40. They came around and picked it apart(like I cared). I thanked them and walked away. I have a friend with a '68(?) GT500. It has top honors, like 995 out of 1000. He can't bring it to anymore Shelby shows as it is a top winner. He worked 20 yrs restoring it and it is perfect.
  25. ^^NO different then the rest of us. That is what is GREAT about trucks.............they are perfect no matter what you do to them. Not like the Corvette club where all the screw heads have to be turned the same way and you have points taken off for not having the original air in the tires............. (darn near true story, had a fellow at work years back that was in the local club. It was a nightmare hearing him tell of what was expected of you) You've done a fantastic job.
