  1. Went to hardware store and bought three new springs of same diameter and wire size. Trimmed about 1\2" off so same length as others. Put it together and sitting on motor. Need three more bolts to mount it and the run valves. Little by little.....
  2. Ya know if that woulda been a HEMI convertible..........you'd be living high on the hog right now!
  3. This was a spur of the moment kinda job and it came back to bite me. Should have just sucked it up and waited a day to get the right parts. Yes, I do inspect the joints to see if grease comes from all four sides. If they ares sealed well enough(so they can't get moisture inside) then greasing isn't that big of deal. Being cheapo parts I figured I would stay on top of them...........for no good reason apparently.
  4. So, just over a year ago, about 15K miles since I put a set of U joints in my '95 F150. I noticed a slight shake and figured I might as well do it. My big mistake was NOT waiting another day and getting a set of SPICER joints at the Federated parts store next to my work. I was home, so I just ran down the street to my local AZ and got their brand. See where this is going?? Last month or so I've noticed a continuing vibration and it has been getting much worse over the last week. I got under truck and wiggle everything. Nothing felt bad. I grease it at oil changes of 3K miles. The only thing that stuck out was the slip yoke at transmission was kinda sloppy. I picked up a new yoke at Summit Equipment and got home last night and plowed and then proceeded to drop the shaft to replace the yoke. That is when it all went sideways. I happened to grab the yoke and move it...........hmmm, this ain't right. It had a really bad catch in it. SMFH. Dammit. Too late to deal with it and no place local to get GOOD parts. I put another shot of grease in and put it back together. This has a companion flange on rear end and (4) bolts with 12mm 12 pt heads. Just a PITA(laying in the snow to boot). Today I stopped at Federated and they tried to sell me Moog joints. Box said "made in Mexico". I said "do you have Spicer?". They said they just started carrying them and exchanged them for me. They are $4/ea more then Moog, but said "made in America"(nothing about "with imported parts). I hope to get more then 1 yr service out of them.
  5. deleted
  6. So what is the wheelbase going to be? Mine is long even at 206" for a single axle. Makes it look like a 240ish if it was a tandem.
  7. Fantastic work, as always. I just drool over nice, clean, well painted trucks................every time I crawl under my greasy, old, rusty truck.
  8. Ditto on all the above. If you don't plan on pulling much weight, just leave it NA. I spent 14 yrs wanting to do the same thing to my 673. I just bought a 237 and got some real power.
  9. I know they both had different solenoids on them so I know someone has been through them at some point. The paperwork that came with the kit shows TWO springs, so I'm guessing the two springs are the upgrade(not the other way around). Of course the kit doesn't come with the springs.
  10. Bwhahahahaha..........
  11. Did they paint your name on the door?
  12. We actually have(had) a Downtown Ford here in Canton. It was just bought out by a local conglomerate Liberty Ford as the previous owner retired and sold out. Our local Ford club has been meeting there since the mid 80's. Still a member thought with my part time job on the Willy's I haven't made a meeting in a few years.
  13. Tore my Jake's apart for rebuild. Found one to have single springs in slave cylinder and the other has double springs like the kit shows. Did someone forget them in the past? Will they work okay or should I order them and get them installed? Kit does not include them, only valve springs. I got the shell, shutters, radiator and bumper off the truck to ease running valves without having to crawl under the truck to get to flywheel.
  14. Only person killed was passenger in trash truck is what I heard this morning. Once I heard it was GOP, I hoped no one was hurt.
  15. I watched some of the beginning. The dummycrats and their smug looks on their faces when most of the room is standing/clapping. Screw them. Pelosi looked like she had a mouth full of lemons. They never panned over to see if she was actually standing/clapping for the heroes that they invited and mentioned by Trump. I wanted to watch more, but with the constant standing ovation really slows things down and I loose interest.
  16. Pretty cool project.
  17. Just have to watch, as when I cut my rear leaf stack down, after about 6-7 yrs the main leaf broke from "excessive movement" that it was not typically used to. 50 yr old brittle springs. I had to have new leafs made, which wasn't really expensive. Not an issue now with the air ride. I had the main leaf replaced on my LF spring pack a few years back. The clamps were coming loose and the springs were not flat anymore. They remade the main leaf(no longer available) and reclamped the pack.
  18. There was a fellow on here years back that did this with a B model. Bill? Dave? Had a silver B67. I had thoughts of doing the same, but never got around to it. I could take a few leafs out and install the bag to hold the truck up. I'm sure it would help drastically with the ride quality of the front end of a B model. Donvel was a brand I recall.\ Edit: It was Dale Hamilton
  19. Got one!
  20. When he was over my place some time back we went over to Dan Renovetz's house and picked up a flywheel and some other related parts he was needing. Dan is the local DD guy around here. Yardo probably has him on speed dial???
  21. I have replaced the seals on my FA517 axle. Had similar wear ring with pin. The pin just keeps the wear ring from spinning. It's been a few years so the details are fuzzy, but when I saw your pictures I knew I went through the same deal.
  22. I'm sure her HI Beams were on and you could have used them to chip the ice off the binders????
  23. Ya, control arms would break loose, he had to keep exhaust pipes handy as they would rot in half, plus a few other issues I have forgotten about. But at an easy 50 MPG no matter how hard to drove it, he loved them. Fold the seat down and you could carry an entire engine back there. Great beater/work cars.
  24. Buddy used to SWEAR by his lil red Festiva. He actually had a fleet, as with as rusty as they get in Ohio you have to have "spares". They would run 250K miles without motor problems. If you could keep them from rusting, they would run forever.
