  1. Is there any "un-worn out" transmissions left in a B model? LOL!!!! My clunks at idle pretty bad. I pulled one shim out of the rear bearing years ago and that did help just a touch, but that was 15 yrs ago.
  2. I bought a head gasket kit from Ebay when I was working on my 237 and it had all the little gaskets you need for intake/exhaust.
  3. Well max torque is only when at WOT at 1100 rpm. So if you aren't at WOT, you aren't giving it full torque output. So, I suppose driving it easy, even at low rpm isn't bad. I've let mine drop down low before and I know the sound of "it don't like it" so if I want to actually accelerate I downshift a gear.
  4. I too heard horror stories of running a 237 with anything but a 5spd. I was very pleasantly surprised how well mine runs with my triplex. I don't split the lower gears(1-2-3), but split 4 and 5 and it pulls right up to 2100 nicely. Having the ability to drop just one gear on a grade really helps it from lugging and banging on that little single countershaft. I keep it above 1500 rpm for the most part.
  5. I was really surprised when I fired up the 237 and the oil from the rocker tips was marginal and hardly any. I was told it would build up over time(rpm) and be fine. I haven't had the covers off, yet since last spring. 5000 miles and no problems. I think it is set up for very minimal oiling at idle.
  6. Welcome to the forums. Cut out the bad, replace with new. Cardboard makes great templates. I too would not undercoat. Use good paint and be done with it.
  7. You can get reman lift pump from Mack. I just put one on my 237 last summer. Not cheap, but mine was on the weak side. The primer pump is just plastic buttons(check valves) and sometimes you might just be able to take it apart and clean it and make it work again. I've done that in the past. Just unscrew the plunger part from the lift pump.
  8. Pretty sure my flaps were hanging on the inside of the fender, not the outside. Some stainless carriage bolts would make it look okay. Just need some material. Heck, even a nice piece of stainless steel formed to the fender hanging down would do okay? If you could roll a lip on the top and then bolt it to the bottom of the fender lip? Kinda like a cab extension panel.
  9. My fender has the holes. The old flaps are long gone. Guess I need to make something up myself. Hmmmm.
  10. Well, its DONE!! Still have to get the battery box mounted and wiring put back on it so everything else works. Plus I have a dual pressure gauge coming next week to monitor the air start tank separately.
  11. Ok, what are you guys using? I've seen some nice MACK versions that look to fit properly. I haven't found anything, even at Watts store. I want to try to save my new aluminum tanks from destruction from rocks.
  12. Nice work. Strange the sheetmetal looks pretty nice, as those trucks would rot to pieces like any of the trucks of that vintage. Heck even a 5 yr old pickups I see with fenders rotted off, wheel lips hanging, etc. Do those people even wash their vehicles, ever? I would guess it has a Gear Vendor OD unit?
  13. Sorry to hear this.
  14. True, didn't think about the permit side. But those tests are pretty self explanatory. Ohio uses TV screen with pictures and 4 answers. If you really paid attention, they re used the same question with a different word missing for you to pick. You don't really have to memorize much, but just have to have some common sense to pass it. Just like the motorcycle permit test. Same deal, you have to get 75% to pass, well the test only lasts long enough for you to get to 75% and it stops. I hadn't missed one, but it said "I passed" when it got to number 16 of 20 questions. What? Same deal, it really just helps weed out the clueless people. Not really difficult if you read the question carefully. The riding course is the same. Many just borrow a little scooter to take it on, then hop on their full dresser and lay it over. I took the state riders course(2 days) and got my license. It was overly simplified and went quickly. Second day you took the basic test like you have at DMV, but you used their 250 Rebels LOL!!! Taking it like this was suppose to help with my insurance. Nope, that was a lie. State Farm didn't care at all. Not that I am a high risk anyway, but to safe a few bucks I tried.
  15. I was just young enough to remember the milk man, the bread man coming on Saturday morning. I still remember the good days when mom would buy some maple rolls and we would heat them up!! Yum.
  16. Resembles this only missing a couple axles: Necessity, however, can breed some interesting solutions. This one was called the tank van, an unorthodox innovation by Cole's Express, one of Maine's premier transportation companies, which was intended to combine a bulk tanker with a conventional 45-foot box trailer and still fit within maximum length restrictions as they existed nearing the mid-Sixties. Is this what you were thinking of Paul?
  17. If you fail a portion of the test, you have to start over on that portion. Say if you pass the pre trip then fail the road test for whatever reason, you don't have to retest the pre trip again. You start on the road portion.
  18. Remember doing mine 15 yrs ago. It went much easier then any Ford twin I beam I have worked on. Note, recheck your gap on the thrust bearing after some miles. I let mine go for a few years and wondered why I had a real bad shake to the steering wheel. Come to find out the spindle was jumping up/down on the pin(like .030) because the thrust had worn in. Put a couple notches on the nut and it was back to smooth again. Found out I need to check that a bit more often.
  19. What motor?
  20. Basically keeps the fuel turned down til the motor builds boost(so it won't smoke), so yes it will seem a bit gutless compared to without it.
  21. My work handles shipping on a daily basis so getting it loaded is not a big deal. Just getting a big enough skid to hold it is more the issue.
  22. I keep trying to pawn off my ol 673, but you are quite a trip away.
  23. He built it all. Big house, big shop and even a large dirt bike oval. For the dirt bike guy that has everything LOL!! He calls it "top of the world" because it is the highest place in town. Very cool, great view on top of the hill, but the road to it SUCKS!! He's complained, but to no avail. He has even threatened to pave it himself!!! Winter shot. House in front, banked track to the right. Shop is behind the house, can't see it very well.
  24. Well, it's just a lowly 2wd. No 4x4 poser here. Even the work trucks, I pay out of pocket to put them through the car wash as I can't stand to be in crusty vehicles. I have a bit more pride in myself then most here at work. The first new truck we had here in 1986, I used to stop at the spray wash at least once a week and clean it. I was proud of that new stake bed and I wanted it shiny red. There hasn't been an employee YET that has ever spent a dollar on cleaning a company vehicle since. Even the VP, we have to pay a local hand wash place to detail his company car. Pathetic in my eyes.
