  1. Yup, lots of R models around our town growing up. I still remember the weed burner exhaust bellowing black so you could hardly see the street as they took off from a stop. Now it is just the boys in their pickups playing that game. My 237 came from a firetruck, no puff limiter on it. The turbo still has the tag that says "Muffling device".
  2. https://youngstown.craigslist.org/hvo/6183559135.html 1962 Mack - $15000 (youngstown) 1962 Mack B61 tractor Thermodyne turbo, phone calls only, thanks. Just found this, just posted 4 days ago. I've never seen it around.
  3. Just found out a buddy is going to St. Paul show as a vendor. If you see a guy with Ford FE and SOHC parts that say "FE POWER" on them, that is Jay Brown. I think he said something about being in front the grandstands somewhere? He will be displaying stuff in the TMeyer Inc area. If you are into FE stuff, Jay is the go to guy. He has run Hot Rod Drag week with Cammer powered cars for a number of years. Back a few years at Norwalk Raceway park, Jay was running his black '64 Galaxie with a 510ci Cammer going 9.40's for Drag Week. I cruised my blown 390 up and hung out for the day:
  4. The Good Guys show here in Columbus is July 8-9. I'm trying to get the Willys done for the guy to take down. It's close, but I'm not holding my breath right now. He is wanting me to work more time on it this weekend as he has a state inspection for next Wednesday and that ain't gunno happen even if I do work extra this weekend. Right now the nose piece is off and I'm wiring up the fans and getting the a/c plumbing finished up. I still have to wire the headlight assemblies then get the grille in the nose and the nose bolted back on. That isn't going to happen by Wednesday....there isn't enough time in the day. It does run: (minus the nose/hood a few weeks ago). The red car is getting a/c added after I get the orange car finished.
  5. Being able to run an old truck and make money.............that's HANDY!!!
  6. Newbie? If all I wanted to learn was how to hold a steering wheel.......then I'm sure you could tell me the proper way. Beyond that.........I doubt you could assist in much. I have very long time, good friend who has the same attitude as you. Holier-then-thou, always standing on a pedestal touting "I'm the perfect person with all the right answers". Sadly we all know better, but we know it is a moot point trying to explain it to him.
  7. I've typed so many things in this post but deleted them all. I won't let a narrow minded person knock me down to their level and beat me with experience.
  8. It is a basic bolt in. You will need to use the balancer and water pump off the 673. The 237 stuff is too long and would run into the radiator. I reused my front mount only because the 237 was missing. I would suppose it is the same anyway? Are you using the 5spd too? You will need to do something with the clutch as that is likely a pull style and the B is push. I'm still running my Triplex and have no issues. I had to build my own air intake. Was pretty simple using some 3 1/2" and 4" tubing and some silicone couplers.
  9. Nice pics Tom! One of these years I'll make it over there?
  10. Sounds likes Jay Barbe's F model. Been discussed here a few times. It does have the basic parts on the truck still, but it is not functional.
  11. Somewhere I posted pics of latches I fixed. I just cut the top off, fixed the broken springs an welded the tube back together. Have to watch the weld heat as you can soak the spring and make it weak(ask me how I know). But, in the end it worked. Your way is the proper way, if the threaded insert has any chance of coming apart. Mine weren't too pretty.
  12. Really, an integral bunk B with "little rust"? Not likely these days. Looks like the whole back corner is gone. Maybe since the metal is gone, it has little rust?
  13. Tragic. My condolences to you and your friends family.
  14. Lots of old clapped out junkers(not rat rods either) running around here with Historical plates on them. Yup, that is the way we will loose them.
  15. Agree, I have historical tags on 3 vehicles. I drive them when I want to(work, play, whatever). As long as you don't get some uppity Barney Fife trying to make a name for himself or drive it the same place for many days in a row I don't sweat it. Let them try to prove I wasn't doing something "official" with it. I think mostly, like Harry says, they are more interested in seeing them then complaining about them. Just two weeks ago I hauled my bunk across town on a trailer. Then Thurs I hauled a bobcat to install the bunk.
  16. When I changed oil filters on the 237 this spring, the std filter at Mack was not the same number as last year? I had to ask to make sure it was going to fit. It did. No issues with it, same basic filter with a new part number. Still pretty cheaply prices compared to a std car filter(FL1A is like $8) and I got this big Mack filter for $7? I'm still running the same coolant filter. Didn't really think with the mileage I put on that I need to change that every spring. Doing the oil is kinda moot, but I figure I'll give it some lovin'.
  17. Robert, I'm still working on getting a front axle for Budds. I have the hubs for the rear axle already. I just got a donation of some KBS paint to help spiff up the old spokes. Hope to get to that in a few weeks? Should brighten that up a bit from the 15 yrs of crusty spray bomb paint and dirt. HarryB, yes it is Neway. I put new bags, bushings and shocks on it. It doesn't ride horrible bobtail, but the only thing that really helped was the added 5ft I put in the frame. You can't really cut the air pressure to the bags to soften them. It's like a tire, low air just lowers the right height. Basically you can't lower the pressure without lowering the ride height. The leveling valve doesn't allow that to happen. What some people mention is a "ping tank". Basically an air tank tied into the bags with a large line for easy flow and that added air gives a better right(softer) since it has more volume to compress. I've never done it, as I never really bobtail it much anymore. With the trailer, it rides nice. I basically always take my race trailer with me on any kind of trip just for ride quality. HarryS. I can't make Mudcungie(lol) as my local Ashland show is that weekend and I'm on the committee so I kinda have to be there. Someday I might make it over there? I'd like to. Selfless plug for the show: Ohvintrkjam.com
  18. If you have a hard time fitting a "short" B model in your garage.............a COE is a no go! LOL!! I'm kinda stuck in the same scenario. I really wanted an A model KW. I'd have to remove the horns and clearance lights to get one to fit in my 10ft door.
  19. Having to crawl over those fenders.............keeps ya thin!!! At least it has for me LOL!!
  20. I've taken my B over to Lowes before. Plenty of "Deer in headlight" looks......
  21. Well, it's finally back on. Looking pretty good again. Friend did a nice job fixing up the little rash marks and making it white again. I still have some details to finish up, but it's bolted on.
  22. Is it common practice to just let a new diesel engine idle for 3 hrs for break in? Was there an oil pressure gauge? Wonder if the pump relief stuck open and was not pumping enough.
