  1. I sent the same 4 pictures to the customer so he can see who he contracted and cover my ass. All he said was does the guy have his info and when is he getting his car. I guess he didn't see what we did. Freight train - I looked on Kaufmans site and it said thier 50' 3 car wedges were 5600# so I used that in the equation. Either way, this dude was way over the limits of an 18,000lb GVWR trailer.
  2. I've had some wacky drivers come to my shop but this dude takes the cake. The customer arranged this so its out of my hands. A close Second is a guy who showed up with a 48' reefer van that smelled like bad fish to pick up an $85,000 Chevelle SS. We sent him away without the car.
  3. North Port. The box truck is going to Miami first the driver said.
  4. I think that's why he's coming back at midnight to head down. So I thought it couldn't get better but stupid has no limits.
  5. Mike, Sorry to hear but glad your getting better. Take your time to heal. The truck will wait.
  6. Probably 21,000 lb total weight of the trailer loaded. The Mustang is around 2800lbs, that van i'd say 5,500 give or take and the box truck my guess is 6500lbs? The trailer is 5,600lbs without the extra extensions he put on it.
  7. I sold this 1966 Mustang Convertible to a nice guy in Florida. I told him I can get him a shipper but he called me back and said he got a broker to book the shipment for $300 over the price I could get it for. I guess he didn't want to wait another day or so but that's fine. This is the dude who showed up: He's telling me "This is Ford F350, not 450. I haul bigger stuff like this all the time. It pulls like nothing" Really? At what point is your rear axle / springs going to explode on I-95? What about your brakes dude? I hear him on the phone to some guy who was calling about a 7 car trailer he had for sale. I didn't get much from the conversation just he doesn't have a truck to haul it. When he is done, he notices my General sitting behind my shop. I told him "Not for sale". Stay away from my rig. To further the fright factor check out the trailers homemade extensions front and rear welded onto it that looked poorly done. This thing was probably 56 feet long now. These are the guys who are going to hurt someone. Final thing is he asked me to pull a car up because his winch needs a battery so he can pull the box truck back onto the trailer then asks if he can park it in my lot for the day since he has to pick his brother up at JFK airport then come back by midnight and hit the road. All I have to say is WOW.
  8. Get the address and send he owners of the property a letter asking if they wanted to sell th trailer. That's what I did to get the general.
  9. We're not done yet. Bubble ass
  10. here you go Found one for sale in Philly that's green too: http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/3919459746.html
  11. When the Typhoon production ended one of the guys I worked with scrambled to buy one. He wanted black but only found a green one at Kerbeck in Atlantic City. They had a black one but was on hold. A few days later he got the call that the black ones deal fell through and if he still wanted it, they will let him have that one instead of the green. He ran down that moment and got the black. He took me for a ride in it and that 4.3l turbo blew me away. Super quick and that thing handled more like a sportscar then a blazer. I think he still ownes it to this day.
  12. Congratulations on taking on this daunting task and welcome to the site. I can say from experience that there will be a lot of resistance from the guys who like their freedom to do whatever but the drivers who want to be successful and professional will take the new policy's and implement them. As for the mechanics, I am sure once you get the shop straightened out things will be more organized and in turn will make their jobs easier as now they have a plan of attack. Years ago I worked for a repair shop that was a free for all. I didn't stay long because of similar challenges you faced. I would up in a good shop that had rules, policy's, etc. they had their shit together. I stayed for several years before leaving for other reasons. You have a big task at hand but if you reach out to your guys, as them what issues they have and involve them with your new policy's everyone (mostly) will get with the program. Looks like you are moving in the right direction and please post updates.
  13. That's how it works in most areas. Here's a tow truck now go pick something up. I would say 70% of the towing operators are clowns and the other 30% are real professionals. When I towed for a living in the late 90's to 2000 I made sure I was up on current training. I was the top guy in the company i worked for as well having my own wrecker. It's been 13 years and have been itching to get another flatbed and wrecker. I figured if I am going to do it again, I'd better be up on everything.
  14. That thing is still bad ass. Those trucks have a following still. Nice truck. I'd love to own one.
  15. I might have to travel since there's no one around here. Pulled my base station from the box. Put a new 9v in my d104 and happy to say that one still works. Have to find some brackets to mount the Antron 99 on the side of the garage.
  16. Found out he retired to Florida. That's a bit far. Anyone gear of the Buzz Brothers in Wharton NJ? Guy is 1.5 hours from me but if the guy is good ill take a run up there.
  17. I had seen that. Kinda cool but I am not a fan of the big utility truck sides even though they have lots of storage, it takes away from the cool wrecker look.
  18. Still want to by a flatbed first but a wrecker is going to be following shortly after.
  19. In NJ if its registered as Antique (QQ plates) you can drive without a CDL if its for non commercial use. I am still planning on getting my CDL with the General once its road worthy. It's a good thing to have.
