  1. I talked to a welder who said he can custom fab something for me. The idea i have is to do a whole tail piece with a hitch on the lower end, a pintle above that and new lights up top. Also going to mount in a 7 pin connector for trailers and an electric brake controller.
  2. I agree with everyone. Fill the cylinders with diesel fuel and let it sit for a couple weeks. Then drain it out and put a little ATF in the cyls and try to crank it by hand or tug it in gear to break it free. Don't go nuts. You want it to break free without too much force or you can do some damage. The diesel fuel will breakdown and loosen up the rust in there. The ATF will lube the cyl as well as having cleaning properties. Good luck.
  3. Is that a wedge car trailer? Can you send me some details on it?
  4. So when do you bring it home? I want to see the combo hooked up!
  5. The guy I sold my R model hood to was in Newark, nj. I delivered it to his lot. The place was full of R and CH Mack's. I asked if they were exporting them. Some yes, others local buyers and some they have drivers using. He said its sad because the older trucks are bulletproof but most companies can't use older equipment due to either company policy's or what not. They get sent to Haiti, South America, Africa, etc. They pay good money (well Haiti buyers are cheap) so that's why they are all going out of country. As they are being less used here the global market is exploding. We are a throw away society where others make due with what they can get. We as enthusiasts cherish these old trucks and what they stand for but reality is a good portion of drivers want creature comfort and modern conveniences.
  6. I got a quick question on running older rigs. I know a lot of companies and brokers don't like to dispatch to guys running old iron. How do guys like this get around this?
  7. Nice garage! The truck looks nice too. Any woman that will get her hands dirty to clean the big dog is one you hold onto.
  8. What other pictures can you post the museum? We love pictures here.
  9. I was a little bored at the shop today so I decided to bust out the wash bucket, all purpose cleaner, and scrub brush. Also shot the tanks with wheel acid to brighten them up. Third shot is with a 94 Chevy pickup the guy Charlie I work with owns.
  10. Congrats and good luck! Get pictures.
  11. I like rat rods and custom trucks but this thing is an abomination.
  12. Nice truck. Love to see old iron still in use.
  13. Good luck with the new rig. Post some pics for us to see the finished WS.
  14. Lets see how much money I wind up putting into it before you are jealous.
  15. Well, not wash tonight. Power washer was down the street at the repair guy and no one picked it up. I forgot to bring my boat brush so I don't mess up the shop wash mitts (not a good idea to use the washing stuff for the nice cars on this filthy thing) and my boss leaves his car parked in front of the damn thing so I couldn't even move it out from where it was so I can at least do the inside. Argh... Oh well, I guess tomorrow is another day.
  16. Vlad - The main tank has around 12 gallons, the secondary tank maybe 2 gallons. They are pretty empty adn cruddy on the bottom. I am planning on doing an oil change ASAP. The Diesel tech also said run straight 40 in this as well. I got 4 gallons of 15w40 in it now when it was low just to get it onto the stick assuming it was going to be drained out anyway. It was a shame to waste $70 on oil to drive it 5 miles but better than wipping out bearings. Tonight is power washing day. Get all the grime, mold, and nasty greese off everything I can from the outside to the underside and chassis. This way I can find all the fittings so I can lube this mother up. Eventually, I will paint the frame but first I need to make sure it is mechanically sound, then work on the cosmetics. Just a good cleaning will do for now. Paul - Clark is an hour north of us. My BMW club has meetings up there at the Deutscher Club of Clark, NJ so I am a little familier. They also just had a car auction at the Armory in Westfield. Thats exit 135 off the Parkway. We're off exit 91. Give me a call at the shop 732-370-8800 if you want to swing by.
  17. Wow Kerry to hear about the RD. prob going to a warehouse in NY to be retagged and shipped over seas. Good luck on the Autocar. Looks like you did a nice detail.
  18. Right now there's about 10 gallons of fuel in there with prob another 2 gallons of old crap with some Algae in the tank. Also the diesel mechanic put a quart of ATF in the fuel. He said it will help the injectors so i would say that white smoke was some of that burning off, with the rest of the crap. Sometime this week I will drain everything back out and wash the insides of the tanks out to get rid of all the crud. Save me from reinstalling filters over and over. Most likely ill have to change them at least once on the next few weeks as I keep running it.
  19. Todays update! IT RUNS!!!! The Kysor Shut Down Valve was preventing it from running longer then a minute. The mechanic put a block off on the air line as a temporary fix so it will stay running and I can drive it back to the shop. I have to rebuild it but at least it can be moved. Once we had 90psi the brakes started to loosen up. We still have to bang the front drivers tandem to break the shoes free but it rolls. Once it started to build pressure, all the air leaks I thought I had sealed right up. No hissing anywhere now. The mechanic said he couldnt believe the truck came alive that easy with no leaks or anything. Even the oil coming from the air box stopped dripping. We had to adjust the cable for the clutch brake, as that was the issue with it getting into gear. Getting the guy Paul from Dynamic Diesel Service was the best money spent so far. 2 hours and it was ready to fly. So, what do I do now? Well... I got it out of there and drove it back to my shop! Thats right - IT DROVE TO MY SHOP! My buddy Bobby did the actual driving just so I don't mess something up on the first ride. I get some seat time this week. He said it was a little shaky but drove pretty good. Now what you have all been waiting for - Video! Sorry no GoPro this time, I forgot to stop home to pick it up but my iPhone did a pretty good job. http://youtu.be/pdsGRJsM0fo Truck behind my shop:
  20. I do have 20 psi of oil perssure at idle then it goes to 40+ when I throttle it. I know there is at least one air leak at the foot valve. I maybe able to cut the line back and install a new fitting. I'll post more after I am done with the mechanic.
  21. So I went by tonight to show the truck to wife up close and to a friend who wanted to see it. I tried to fire it up and it just cranked for a couple seconds. I waited the tried it again and it fired then stalled. I figured the fuel filters were empty from the last run the other day so I didn't want to push it. But I said let's try one more time. It fired up and then ran, and ran, and ran. It idled for at least 8 minutes. I revved it up a little to 1200 rpm then backed off. As soon as I did that it stalled. I fired it back up and it idled fine. At least i have progress. I can hear an air leak at the foot valve so it didn't air up so the brakes are still full on. I tried to push the parking brake in but it kept popping out. I can hear air releasing when I do this though. I was able to slide into gear this time. I made sure the clutch was ll the way down. Last time I guess I had another 1/2 inch to go. It doesn't want to move forward yet but I am close. Tomorrow the mechanic is coming so I should have answers then.
  22. Certain things a man doesn't share. But when I got over there last night this girl wanted a ride. I told her it wasn't road ready and sent her on her way.
